7Days Kilimanjaro climb - Machame Route

The Machame route, also referred to as the Whiskey route, was one of the most popular routes and crowded on Kilimanjaro. But now many people have been choosing Lemosho as altenative to avoid crowd which makes the route less populated compare to Lemosho. This is one of our favorite route due to its scenery and success rates. Machame route is one of the highest summit success rates given the topography and nature of the route which allows climbers to “trek high & sleep low” hence making it a more favorable route for acclimatization. This route offers some of the most spectacular scenery while on the mountain. The Machame route starts in the south west side of the mountain and proceeds steeply north, traversing the Shira plateau and eventually joining the Shira and Lemosho routes just after the Shira cave camp. The Machame route can be climbed 7Days to allow climbers been well rested and acclimatized before making the final ascent to the summit.

I can clearly recommend a trip to Mt. Kilimanjaro with the guys of Popote. Sabino the manager of Popote and our two guides Shani and Omari and the rest of the crew took very good care of us. We went on the 8 day Lemosho route. The route was spectacular, the guides helped us on the way, had interesting information, the food was excellent and the spirit of the whole team was great. In total it was super fun, even on summit day (which was wonderful and breath taking, yet exhausting the team was very supportive and pushed us up Uhuru Peak. On top we went with Massoud, a local guy with the disability of being short statue. The team took greater care of him and managed to plan the route challenging and fun for the three of us. In the end we all made it to the top. Thanks to Sabino and his team, I wish you a lot of success in future.

I cannot recommend Popote Africa Adventures highly enough! Everything from the airport pickup, hotel transfer, trek to the summit, guides and food was top notch. First of all, we had some difficultly getting to Tanzania because of flight cancellations etc. due to the pandemic. Popote was very flexible with us, letting us start our journey over a week later than our reserved time. Sabino and our mountain guide, Imran, picked us up promptly from the airport when we finally arrived in Kilimanjaro. The hotel was beautiful with fantastic amenities. That night Imran came by the hotel to brief us on what to expect on our climb as well as check our gear. What we did not have the company was able to rent to us for a nominal fee. (Trekking pokes, sleeping bags etc. anything you might not want to pack across the world) The next morning we headed to the trailhead and met the rest of our team. Everyone was nice and accommodating. The porters were fast! This is important because the camps are on a first come basis. The first porters to reach camp set up the best sites. Each night we found ourselves at the most sought after site of the camp. (There also aren’t very many people on the mountain right now which makes it a great time to climb) The camps themselves were very comfortable, we had a dining room/ table and chairs in a section of our tent as well as a private bathroom tent. Upon arrival we were provided hot water for washing. The food was great. Dinner always started with a delicious soup, which helped with hydration, and went on to more courses of a mix of local and western fair. They definitely push you to eat as much as you can because you need as much energy as possible to make it to the top. Our guides were very knowledgeable and able to answer all of our questions along the way. We were curious about the history, trail routes, animals and plant life and our guides seemed to always have an answer. Each night we were briefed on what to expect the next day and our oxygen level and pulse was taken and recorded. All of this made us much more comfortable with the climb, we felt better knowing that our guides were very familiar with the mountain. Summit day is a real challenge no matter how fit you are or how much hiking experience you have. 19,341 ft is no joke, and the mountain needs to be respected. That being said the view from the top is out of another world and we felt a real sense of accomplishment making it to the top of one of the worlds seven summits. We chose to take on the Lemosho route to Uhuru peak in only 7 days as opposed to the recommended 8. The 7 day option skips Shira 1 camp and leaves you with one less day for acclimatization. If you have the time and money go for 8 days, if you are fit and have mountain experience 7 days is definitely doable. You won’t be disappointed by Popote Africa Adventures!

Did my 1/7 summit hike with popote africa and a 100% met my expectations in making my trip a successful and eventful one. A big shout out and thank you to the team who have made my trip an unforgettable experience. I want to thank Redeem and Sabino who effortlessly answered to all my questions despite all the emails that kept bouncing to and fro. Really glad to have my trip guides, "Raymond" and "Sanka" who were always pushing us to reach our goals and keeping us in check to make sure we are doing great. Katherine and I wouldn't have made it to the top if it wasn't for them. Amazing job that Raymond and Sanka has done, appreciate it. "Ali" was our cook and always serving us delicious meals everytime. Yum yum! best mountain cook ever. and for the porter team, you guys are the fittest, strongest and most important of all the happiest bunch of people that I've ever met. "hakuna matata" like they always say or "pole pole". Thank you for these simple Swahili words and THANK YOU, for making my trip an unforgettable one. Best Regards, Nicholas (P.S - Porter team, Nicholas, Rashid, Jacob, Zidane, Nicholas, Fuku, Emiri, Innocent. Amazing team, thank you! )

I can’t tell you enough good things about Popote. I did the 8 day Lemosho climb and I would recommend time and time again. From the food to the guides, to all of the help in between everything was so wonderful. I got sick two days before summit and the guides were so patient with me and still helped me make it to the top ! I could not have done it without them. Their knowledge, patience, and welcoming cannot be beat, they are the best!! Book your climb with them and you will but be disappointed, I will never forget this experience and they made it happen.

We have visited Tanzania in February 2020, our trip included Mt Meru climb and safari in Tarangire park, Ngorongoro crater and Lake Manyara park. We were in group of 10 people, including 5 teenagers. For all of these days we have chosen Popote Africa and that was very good decision. We received not only what was contracted, but also extra effort, starting from the very beginning, when we have missed the last flight segment and had to stay overnight in Nairobi. Popote (in particular Redeem) helped us then and we managed to get to Arusha. We started with Meru trekking. Our guides were very professional, prepared us to the climb, taking care about everything, from water containers to daily healthchecks or briefings. We were looked after by the whole team, we enjoyed every moment with them, had full trust in them, but also lots of fun. I don't think we would make to the summit by ourselves. With the big group, during the night hours to the summit, each one of our group had difficult moments, but we always had a great support of the team: guides Dickson and Jamal, and porters: Faraja, Dickson Moto, Shehe, Rashid, Innocent. Tanzania warriors: thank you for bringing us there and back safely, in good health and in fantastic mood. After Mt Meru we took safari trips to 3 national parks. Again, our drivers and guides, Tooma and Davis were great, experienced and knew when and where it is worthy to go or to wait. We owe also recognition to our "stomach engineer" for delicious meals :-). That was dream vacation for us. It wouldn't work that way without experienced and engaged team of Popote. I can proudly say I have friends in Tanzania now!
