From start to finish the trip couldn't have gone better.
Planning: LocalMoshi was incredibly accommodating of a complex and evolving itinerary. We did a one week safari with the whole family, then we did one week of climbing Kilimanjaro with my oldest son while the rest of the family flew home. Every detail was worked out ahead of time (including scheduling for covid tests, airport pickup/dropoff, everything).
Accommodations: We were picked up and dropped off at a different hotel each night (our preference was to see as much as possible, so opted for a different hotel each night). The hotels were great. They greet you with fresh juice when you arrive and handle the bags for you without issue.
Safari: We went to the Lake Manyara, Serengeti and Nogorogoro Crater (in that order). Every day was unique and such a wonderful experience. We saw the big five and so many more animals. We had a monkey jump in the car and grab a banana from us (I had stepped out to stretch my legs). It was a wild trip that the kids will remember for the rest of their lives. Our guide was knowledgable and collaborated with the other drivers in the area. He had been a safari guide for over ten years and was clearly one of the most respected and effective guides out there (we were always in the right position for the perfect pictures, our truck never got stuck in the mud, we helped others when they broke down, etc).
Kilimanjaro: Our Kilimanjaro guides dragged us to the top with minimal effort required by my son and I. By the time we finished our hike, the team felt like family. The food was great, the decision making was great (we made a judgement call to summit a day early and sleep in the crater afterwards, as opposed to doing the reverse... this was such a good call... we didn't sleep much in the crater due to the altitude and may have struggled to summit afterwards).
Fees: The reasonable costs were agreed upon and paid up front, so aside from tips and drinks there were not any surprise costs. Everything was delivered exactly as agreed upon.
Overall, I couldn't have asked for a better experience. I strongly recommend Local Moshi!

Great experience trekking Kili with Local Moshi! So many people to thank from this company - Anya was incredibly helpful and responsive setting up the trek. Upon arrival, Msechu picked us up at JRO and was a great resource and extremely helpful while in Moshi. Our bags had been left in Amsterdam by KLM and Msechu was able to work around this disaster and make sure we were comfortable with the plan and even delayed our trek one day while we waited on the bags. Once we had our bags we started the trek (8 days Lemosho - highly recommend). Our guides: Makash and Simon as well as the entire crew: Michael (he is the man!), Waha, Gordy, Ibrahim, Zogo, Patrick, Kosmas, DJ Bobo, Joseph and Joseph T were the best. We made the summit with no issues whatsoever! We were incredibly well fed, well taken care of and felt very comfortable and safe with the crew the entire time.
We started our search for a Kili trek provider on the KPAP website (just google if you are unfamiliar with this term but it's a great place to start) as porter welfare was our first concern. We then chose Local Moshi due to their quick response, very good prices for private treks (they offered group rates for a private trek due to the pandemic) and they seemed to be a smaller company where we would not be lost amongst a large group of clients. I couldn't be happier with our choice!
Thanks to everyone for an amazing week on the mountain!

I cannot recommend Local Moshi highly enough - If you're considering them for your trip you will not regret it! We (my mother and I) traveled to Tanzania in early January to climb Kilimanjaro via the Lemosho route for 8 days followed by a 4 day Safari.
For our climb we were accompanied by August as lead guide and Acasio as the assistant guide and 10 other porters, cooks and waiters. These men were so kind, encouraging and happy. They truly made our trip so easy and comfortable. All of the equipment is good quality, including the gear we hired in Moshi.
The meals were restaurant quality - how Anton prepared such delicious meals on a mountain is beyond me but they were wonderful, nutritious and very filling. We were given so much food you could never be hungry! Our waiter was always checking on us and even bought us hot drinks in our tent before we even got out of our sleeping bags - we were totally spoilt!
The guides were incredibly knowledgeable and could easily answer our endless questions about the plants, birds or landscapes we were passing.
You could also tell how experienced and professional they were when we had our daily health checks and on summit night when my mother started to experience altitude sickness. They knew exactly what to do to help her and ensure they we both safely got to the top and down again.
Local Moshi is a member of KPAP and as such treat all their staff and particularly porters well. All of our porters and guides had good quality, well fitting boots, jackets and clothing. They all ate 3 meals plus snacks daily and were clearly treated well by the company. This is certainly not the case for many porters and I was horrified to see this with my own eyes on the mountain where we saw incredibly weak, thin porters with inadequate clothing in cold rainy conditions. Many had holes in their boots and no socks. I specifically chose Local Moshi because I wanted to support a Tanzanian owned company who treated their employees well and was not disappointed.
Our accommodation which Local Moshi booked was lovely rustic style resorts with wonderful food, fabulous staff and beautiful grounds. See my reviews of Chanya Lodge and Bougainvillea Safari Lodge for more on those.
After completing our climb and being sung goodbye to by our team which had begun to feel like family after 8 days in the mountain we were picked up by our Safari guide, Moody.
His welcoming manner and incredible knowledge of both the animals, plants and people of Tanzania would rival an encyclopedia! He made our 4 day Safari of Tarangire, Lake Manyara and Ngorogoro such a special trip. We saw almost every animal, many up close. He seemed to know exactly where to park to get the best photos and genuinely wanted us to have a wonderful experience which we certainly did.
Msechu and Anya were a pleasure to deal with, both when organising our trip and whilst we were there. They were always available to answer questions and go the extra mile! If you're considering climbing Kili or a safari definitely choose Local Moshi!

Summiting Mount Kilimanjaro with Local Moshi was a dream come true. In fact, it was the culmination of 15 years on my bucket list.
And having Ali and Joshua as guides made the trek even more special. Each of them noticed everything. They were able to take care of even the smallest detail, while all the while making us feel at ease. Pole, Pole was the watchword from the start.
Each of them took care to set the proper pace for our group. This is one of the reasons we summitted. Our guides knew what it took and made sure we knew each day what the plan was. This reduced any stress about each segment of the trek.
Going from camp to camp, sometimes other guide companies and their clients passed us. In fact, on summit night, we had a group buzz by us at a speedy pace. With the guide in front, four of the last five members of the group appeared to be having trouble with the hasty clip set by their guide. That’s when Local Moshi’s superior service became clear to me.
Other companies that I saw had guides who were focused more on summiting and less on the individual group members. Ali and Joshua were focused on us first and then on the best way to get us to the summit. And because of their care for our needs as climbers, we did summit! Friday at 11:18 AM is our official summit time recorded by the Tanzanian Government. It will be etched in my mind forever.
I cannot thank local Moshi enough for all their care. From the moment we began corresponding, they answered every question openly and honestly. And this elevated level of care was evident in all fifteen of our porters, plus our waiter, guide, and assistant guide. Without these eighteen people, our group of four climbers would still be looking for the path to the first campsite. And did I mention they are KPAP members?
I would recommend Local Moshi to anyone seeking guides to summit Mount Kilimanjaro. I have been back in the USA for over 2 weeks and still wake up expecting to see Kili.
In closing, with Local Moshi taking care of everything, we were able to take in the entire experience.
Asante Local Moshi

My three cousins and I climbed Kili in June with Local Moshi and had a fantastic experience! Right from the start they were easy to contact, extremely helpful, clear with information and very reasonably priced compared to lots of other tour companies we looked into. They organised a stay before and after the climb at a lovely local hostel as well as airport transfer when we arrived. Our guides were super friendly, knowledgeable, experienced and patient. We also had a chef and a waiter who were amazing: we were woken up every morning of the climb with tea & coffee in our tents! The food was abundant and absolutely delicious and Local Moshi catered for all four of us being vegan. Our guides were also vigilant on checking up on us and our health the entire time; checked blood oxygen levels etc. every evening. Overall I would thoroughly recommend Local Moshi Adventures to anyone wanting to take on the mountain, we couldn’t have had a better experience. Thank you Local Moshi!!

I can only recommend local moshi adventures, they are very friendly and professional at the same time.
The guide, Makashi, and his team, Waha, Michael, Frank, etc, gave me all the chances to summit Kilimanjaro: advice, support, food dietary, etc. And this worked since I summited the Kili which is i believe not so easy.
I will come back with my family and will use this agency for touristic activities in Arusha region
Thanks 1000000 times Anya and Meschi for your great work in this Agency,
Cheers

Local Moshi provides an unparalleled guided trip for Kilimanjaro! All staff are incredibly friendly, helpful and welcoming! They helped organize so many details of our trip including airport pick up (at 3am) and drop-off, incredible accommodations, Moshi city tours, safaris and assistance with timely delivery of lost luggage from our flight. All manners were very organized, professional and safe!
While climbing Kilimanjaro, the staff were beyond incredible. We routinely had campsites with the best views, amazing hot food and drinks, and excellent quality gear. The staff were encouraging, answered our many questions and were happy to teach us about their culture - including helping us learn some Swahili!
Though there are many options when it comes to climbing Kilimanjaro, I would highly recommend choosing Local Moshi! They are certified with the Kilimanjaro’s Porters Assistance Project, support local Moshi workers and are very well connected with the community.

It was by a chance Google search that we found Local Moshi when we were thinking of climbing Kilimanjaro, and it was the best find ever.
They replied to our e mails very quickly and efficiently and no question was left unanswered.
They also organised our accommodation in Moshi before and after the climb, and our transport to and from the airport.
The day before the climb we met our guide August who inspected our kit and organised hiring of jackets and sleeping bags for us.
We were a group of 2, and had an awesome crew of 12 including August, assistant guide Akasio and the ever attentive Evelio.
Nothing was too much trouble for the crew - they were extremely professional and we felt totally safe at all times whilst enjoying the stunning mountain environment.
The climb was challenging and they were endlessly supportive and encouraging.
The food cooked by Mariki was nothing short of miraculous - how those meals were prepared several thousand metres up Africa's highest mountain I will never know.
We had all the weather but the team never stopped smiling.
They belong to KPAP - the Kilimanjaro Porter's Association, which ensures fair and ethical treatment of the porters, so they get properly remunerated and aren't exploited.
Also because they are a local company all the money goes directly to them, instead of paying an international company to be the middleman.
All in all it was a fantastic trip and I can't recommend them highly enough.

Local Moshi provided an unparalleled experience during the the safari tours and while hiking Mount Kilimanjaro. The whole team from the office to the field were incredibly helpful during the pre and post planning. The employees were extremely polite and always offering to help. The hike team in particular was truly impressive; camp was made upon arrival, food was delicious and the team was always accommodating. The team was always smiling and laughing, they taught us Swahili and showed us how they made some of the delicious meals they had to offer. Transportation was easily arranged to/ from the airport and during the transfer from the hike to safari’s. These individuals are truly deserving, I highly recommend reaching out.

Anya and Msechu were excellent at answering all our questions and making exciting suggestions when we were planning our Kili trek and safari. Their gold standard of customer service continued when our travel plans had to be cancelled due to Covid-19 – they were sympathetic and quick to respond with our refund or rebooking options. I really value their support throughout this process and would thoroughly recommend them.

A friend and I already have a 10-day tour planned through Tauck in August 2018.. We are arriving a day early and will have a free day after arriiving in Arusha before our 10-day trek begins. We want to use that time to do something that is NOT included in our Tauck safari, something not strenuous, as we will be recovering from jet lag. Would it be possible to do just the Kikuletwa hotsprings between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.? We are staying at the Lake Duluti Serena Hotel, so would be able to leave from there around 10 a.m. and would need to arrive back there by 3 p.m. Is there anything else we could do in addition to the hotsprings during that time frame? What would be the cost for such an outing? Or is there an outing you would recommend instead of the hotsprings?
