This is the third time that I have done safaris and the coffee tour with Materuni Tours.

The coffee tour takes you through the village of Materuni, through a beautiful landscape to a huge waterfall. The hike is not demanding and is beautiful. You are also shown how coffee grows and how it is made, or you can make it yourself. We really liked that!

After that we did a 4-day safari, which was simply fantastic. We had very nice accommodations and a cool car with lots of space. Since we are bird lovers, we also really liked the fact that our driver was extremely knowledgeable about the Tanzanian bird world and always showed us the animals in a book.

After the safari we did a 3.5-day hike in the Usambara Mountains with Materuni Tours. It was amazing!! The nature is fantastic and we hiked through many villages and got a great insight into Tanzanian culture. Our guide Francis was very, very nice and funny. He made the best guacamole in the world and was very attentive. We saw lots of chameleons and had an incredible view of over 300 km.

I can only recommend Materuni Tours, everything was very well organized and even when we wanted to make a few spontaneous changes, they were immediately taken into account and implemented. I also think it's good that it's a Tanzanian provider and that this boosts the economy in the country.

Unforgettable experience climbing Kilimanjaro and doing 5 day safari. The mountain team were 1st class and do everything for you on the mountain so all you need to do is walk, giving you the best chance of summiting. Safari was a really fun was of spending the 2nd week, we saw lots of amazing animals including the big 5, and also nice way to meet other travellers.

Materuni Tours provide a very personalised experience, and will look to arrange anything you want at short notice. If you’re a solo traveller and looking to be part of a group, best check first when there are sign ups and for which routes, as there’s no guarantee there will be a group if you select your own dates. Also the accommodation is nice but a bit out of town and feels like a safe house, so if you’re wanting to try and link up with other travellers/climbers then worth arranging a hostel in Moshi. Otherwise a fantastic experience!

We booked a Kilimanjaro 7 days Machame tour with Materuni tours. One word: Amazing.
The contact with Ambrose was perfect before arrival. The days before our tour Ambrose gave us a briefing about our climbing tour what was very helpful. The tour itself was incredible. The guides helped us so much to reach to the summit. Everything was organised so well. Really recommend this organisation also because it's local!

Thank you Ambrose for organizing our big excursion. From the prep lead up to the day we arrived, to pick up from airport, accomodation and finally the 7 day lemosho hike, we felt very taken care of and this was really a trip of a lifetime. Materuni Tours was the best decision we made. Thank to the entire team.

We made a more days tour. We were going to Arusha National Park, Tarangire Park, Serengeti and the Ngorongoro.
We had a great guide Nuru who knew so many things and tell us about all the parks.
We saw all of the Big 5 that was amazing. I can recommend this safari tour!!!

My husband and I traveled to Africa for the first time for our honeymoon. We only had two full days in Kilimanjaro and wanted to make the most of it before we left for Zanzibar. I contacted Ambrose because of the amazing reviews on tripadvisor. He was very very responsive and flexible. His tour guides were always on time and very friendly and knowledgeable. We did the Arusha park tour and the Materuni village and coffee tour. His prices are very reasonable and service was excellent. He picked us up and dropped us off to our hotel every day and even dropped us to the airport (after checking that our flight was on time). His team went out of his way for us - especially Mkoni and Joseph.
I would highly recommend his company to anybody. He himself is very knowledgeable. We plan on going back to tanzania and will definitely be contacting him again!

I went to the Materuni waterfalls on a day trip with Materuni Tours and had a spectacular time.
We started the morning with a trip to a local coffee farm where we could watch the coffee being roasted and get a sample to drink.
We left for a 20 min hike to the waterfalls along a trail thru the woods. It was the most amazing sight to see the falls peeking thru the trees as we walked along the trail. When our group got to the falls we were amazed to see a table set out in full view of the falls and our hot lunch paraded to us by the chef himself. After lunch it was time for a dip in the chilled water, just what we needed on a hot day.
Materuni tours made sure we had a most wonderful day, with great food and beautiful views.
Thanks to Materuni Tours for a most spectacular day trip.
I highly recommend it!!!

Asante sana Ambrose and Tori at Materuni Tours office!
You helped us arrange a well tailored fabulous combination of Materuni waterfall tour, Kilimanjaro climb and three national parks Safari!

Asante sana to the best Kilimanjaro guides Ramadhani and Andrew, and all others in your and our team! You made this an unforgettable happy experience, and made us all reach Uhuru peak! Just fantastic!

Asante sana Mkonyi, the best and most friendly safari guide! You gave us a safe and happy safari. Spotting the "Big five" +more with fantastic photos. You drove us safely to our camps, despite the unexpected rainstorm that blew our first camp away, without getting stuck in the mud (which other jeeps did). Always with a happy smile.

Despite our unusual requirements, Tori and Ambrose at Materuni Tours tailored us a just perfect experience exactly as we needed. Three people from three different destinations climbing Kilimanjaro together. And not the same three people doing a one-way Safari from Mwanza through three national parks Serengeti, Ngorongoro via Tarangire to the JRO airport. We felt that anything could have been arranged, and so it was.

Tori answered all our questions clearly and promptly, and made us feel comfortable and well informed. (There are quite some details to be aware of and choices to make, and all was very well taken care of)

The bank transfer of the deposit, felt at first a bit uncertain as creditcards are more common in Sweden. But the banktransfer worked just flawless.

We will definitely contact Materuni Tours the next time - or rather Tori and Ambrose, as they feel more like friends than a company.

The actual planning and organisation of the 3 day trip between my partner and Tory was excellent....all by email and handled expertly by Tory I believe.
Our trip increased in price before we started by about $50 each due to the Tanzanian government decion to put a tax on all atractions just before we arrived. (Tip - get ur money in dollars for this trip before u arrive in the country - it cost us about 7 euros in commission each time we withdrew $200 from Barclays, the maximum cash withdrawal across Tanzania I believe. We were able to draw 3 lots of $200 succesively but an expensive excercise! We did find the banks that charged about 3/4 euros for each $200 withdrawal later in our trip - eg. NBC. Both of us have cards that usually withdraw money for free around the world).
Cutting to the point....the good...Tory, the 2 'glamping' nights in the heaven camping site, animals, ngorogoro crater, good and generally safe driver.
Bad...the car we drove around in - I likened it to a death trap...it had metal bits prodtruding from the expantable roof which if we had had even a small bump or very bad pothole experience would have smashed into my head which was only 15/20 cms above me whilst seating in the seat behind the driver. The car only had 2 seatbelts which worked...the driver and the one my partner sat in....I decided to take my chances sitting in one of the back seats wihout a belt and this felt safer then a meeting with the metal above my head!!
The driver Footee was a nice friendly bloke but not forthcoming with information. When asked a question however he seemed knowledgable...it was just you had to ask a question to get information...perhaps some peolple prefer it that way, not us. There was also no binoculars in car - would have improved the experience. When we questioned the driver about how poor the vechile was one evening, he told us the company was looking to sell it as it had a good engine...however when we told Tory on our return about how poor the car was, she told us all their cars bar one they owned were hired & it was the drivers responsibility to check it's road worthiness/safety etc...

Dear Kev, Thanks for taking the time to write a review of your safari with us and we're happy to see you enjoyed your time 'glamping' at Haven Nature and the wildlife you experienced on your trip to Ngorongoro crater! We're really sorry to see that not all things on your trip were up to your expectations. As you'll see from all of our other reviews at 4 and 5 star this is something we take very seriously as we want to see all of our customers have a 'trip of a lifetime' experience with us. Safety is a major concern to us therefore after meeting with you at the end of the safari and hearing that the seatbelts weren't working we immediately checked the vehicle. We found that all 6 passenger seat belts bar one in the rear seat were working, however several had been adjusted to the smaller size at the car wash prior to the trip leaving. We are so sorry you did not feel comfortable to talk with Futte regarding this at the very beginning of your trip as he would have been easily able to adjust them correctly. The piece of metal you referred to was part of the mechanism for putting the roof up, whose safety catch fell loose on one of the bumpy drives (which unfortunately, can happen here with the conditions of the roads despite the best maintenance!). As mentioned, occasionally in our busy season we do hire a safari vehicle but ensure to send one of our trained guides on the trip. As you'll see from several other reviews below, Futte has always received 5 star reviews for his fun friendly personality, and fantastic knowledge of the wildlife and parks. As we are always looking to improve our services as we grow, we have taken all of your feedback on board to ensure our guests in the future do not come away from a safari with any cons whatsoever. We hope that we can welcome you back to Tanzania in the future to not only fulfil, but go above and beyond expectations! All the best, Ambrose and the team in Moshi
