The Maasai guide Eric I met through Africa Pathways was incredibly kind and insightful. The opportunity to hear about his story, and explore culture in the context of history and its ongoing evolution made this one of the most memorable and thought provoking encounters. I'd highly recommend getting in touch!

We had a great day with our guide Allan.

We started by visiting a coffee plantation in the mountains not far from Kilimanjaro and a 90m high waterfall.
Then we had lunch with a local to roast our coffee beans ourselves, grind them and drink it.
Then we went to the hot spring of a turquoise blue color ... A little corner of paradise
Thanks again to African pathways expedition and to Allan.

The close interaction with the Massai and dancing with them. It was heartwarming to meet them and enjoy their warmth and hospitality. The spear throwing was so exciting and challenging. It felt like leaving family when the time came to take leave of our new found friends.
After a morning with the Massai we went to an Oasis of refreshing, translucent spring Waters to swim and finished the tour with a delicious lunch. I highly recommend this tour! Milton our driver came to pick us up punctually in an a A/C comfortable car and took care of all our needs.

Loved being with Alfred so much! We were with him for three days. He was super courteous and went out of his way to show us things not part of our specific itinerary. We felt super safe and welcomed in Arusha. The Maasai tribe tour was amazing and unforgettable. We did canoeing and a coffee plantation tour, which was also outstanding. He also took us to Arusha national park, and he and his driver knew everything about the nature and animals at the park. They showed us good places to walk and constantly stopped so we could see the animals and plants. We got super close to gorillas, baboons, giraffes, buffalos, and pumbas. He took many pictures and videos and sent them all to us. Overall, can’t wait to book with Pathways the next time we come to Arusha!

This tour was one of my favorite outings to do! The Maasai were welcoming and kind, my guide was knowledgeable about the region (and very patient with my questions), the lunch was c'est magnifique, and the hot springs were the perfect way to cool off from all the festivities. This tour is a must for those interested in Maasai culture and getting to see a different side of Moshi!

I cannot recommend this tour enough! 10/10. I did it a month ago, on Feb 16th.

I reached out directly to Africa Pathways after seeing the tour online on third party websites. It was very useful to have direct contact as Alfred was exceptional in organising the tour for me and providing me all the information I need for the hike. Communication was consistent and clear on what I should be expecting.

On the day of the hike, I was picked up by my driver Milton and mountain guide Godwin. It was a ~2.5hrs drive from Moshi to Kilimanjaro, but I did not feel it because of the interesting information they were telling me about Tanzania and pointing out of animals en route.

Once we started the hike, Godwin’s knowledge about the region was incredible. I learnt a lot about the nature and plants too! Godwin was also a great photographer, taking cool videos and photos of me and the landscape.

While I successfully made it to the top, the last part to get to the top was the most challenging, but Godwin was so patient and helpful. “Polé polé” is something you’d hear, it means take it slow. It’s important to take it slow since oxygen is lighter.

All in all, the hike took me 6.5hrs, but it was the best feeling to sit at the top and have lunch with the views, so the challenge is 1000% worth it. And having Godwin as my guide made the experience wonderful!

Since the altitude is so high, I will advise you do what you can to minimise the symptoms of altitude sickness (doesn’t affect everyone but if it does, it can include headache, nausea and vomiting). Stay hydrated throughout the hike, eat very well before the hike, sleep well and if you’d like, take some Diamox (16hrs before hike I believe). If you do get altitude sickness, you should be fine once you get back down to sea level after your hike.

One more thing to note for any female solo travellers considering this tour, I was travelling solo, and felt very safe, cared for and respected throughout my trip! They’re a very friendly bunch!

Thank you to Alfred, Godwin and Milton for this wonderful experience. Look forward to coming back and doing the full hike to Uhuru one day.

I was in Arusha in between a Safari tour and Kilimanjaro climb and was so glad I found this tour. It was a great way to see Arusha! Our tour guide was knowledgeable, friendly, and introduced us to scenic local spots. Highly recommend to anyone interested in exploring Arusha.
