Mama Africa Shop is a real gem! As soon as you enter, you can feel the warm and welcoming atmosphere. The staff are exceptionally friendly, attentive and always ready to help with any questions – this is where you really feel valued as a customer.
The high-quality and diverse range is particularly impressive. From handmade jewelry to artful decorative items to traditional textiles – there’s no mass-produced or cheap import junk from China here. Instead, local artists and artisans are supported, who can present and sell their works in the shop. This makes shopping here not only a special experience, but also a way to promote sustainable and fair trade.
If you are looking for authentic, lovingly crafted products, you should definitely stop by. A wonderful place to discover unique treasures while doing good!

Peter our contact took us to his shop, which is small but has curios from multiple artisans. Compared to other more "touristy" stores, this store is more reasonably priced, but maybe less variety of items. We had to haggle to get the eventual prices.

The shop owners are lovely people and they have great intentions. By supporting this shop you support local artists and also help with empowering women programs. They have a wide variety of gifts, so you will definitely find something you fancy. Great place to buy beautiful things with a beautiful idea behind it!

On my second day in Moshi I stumbled upon this nice little shop which ended up being my favorite one. It has everything you're looking for jewelries, paintings, clothes, local craftsmanships etc.. Furthermore Peter and his boys offered different tours like the sunset bus ride, so you can enjoy your time in Moshi to the fullest. What impressed me the most apart from Mama Africa was the warm and welcoming atmosphere surrounding the shop. I can advise everyone to take a look at this unique shop!

Peter that owns Mama Africa Giftshop with his mother, is a perfect mediator between western cilture to the local culture.
From buying local art in a trustworthy price, to getting around in his car to visit local sites/attractions, or even just hang out at night for some football games, pool and karaoke.... nevermind what, he will take care of you.
If you come to Moshi, i can recommend to contact him for all the above or also for a very nice homstay gesthouse to sleep.
He has been living in UK.

If you want to buy gifts and souvenirs in Tanzania. Search no longer. You want to go here. The shop is run by a mother and son and they support young vulnerable people. Besides their art, they learn social skills. So don’t be overwhelmed when they dive right into you as a matter of speaking, they want to share their story, they want to share the art they made and they want to sell it to you. They have a variety of fun gifts. Chose some and do talk about the price.

You can find many beautiful things at the Mama Africa shop, but moreover - you can find your personal souvenir to take home from Tanzania! Apart from the beautiful crafts they offer, check out the sewing service for the custom jackets, their custom bracelets or their modified fjallraven backpacks. For me, bringing home something truly unique gives me the ability to keep Moshi in my heart!
They were always extremely helpful and will point you towards all places you need to know in the city.
Also, definitely go on the tour with the sunset bus! It's a great opportunity to meet fellow travellers, locals and expats while sipping a beer and marveling at the beautiful Kilimanjaro peak.

Social enterprise Mama Africa is a beautiful shop which not only amazes you with all the art and creative things they sell, but mostly because of owner Peter, his mother and the wonderful other people working there. Designed to support local artists, this business has the heart in the right place and you can feel Peter has put his whole heart and soul into it. Would 100% recommend going here and for sure visiting next time I’m in Moshi!

What a gem. We sought this Shop our as we liked what we read about it on this platform. It is not super easy to find but well worth the effort to look for. A small shop stuffed with beautiful crafts and souvenirs. Really nice people who are all to happy to explain, show and chat without being pushy. The prices are reasonable and the charities that are supported are very worthwhile. What's not to like?

Lot of beautiful paintings, jewel's, decorative object like wooden giraffes, elephants etc. Owner Peter is really nice and hearty person. I highly recommend. ♥️ Also they are supporting local womans group who made for example earrings.

Hi there. I was just wondering how I can tell if I am actually in your shop ? I have heard that some shops close by have been pretending to be Mama Africa and I before I buy anything I want to check I’m in the right place :)
