About
Peak Planet has been setting the standard for climbing Kilimanjaro since 2008. We hire the best and most experienced Kilimanjaro guides. They are all Wilderness First Responder certified. We staff our climbs with a 1:2 guide to climber ratio. Our guides conduct daily health checks to measure pulse, temperature, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation every day. We are members of the Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project (KPAP) – a non-profit organization that monitors Kilimanjaro operators to protect the welfare of porters. We are also a member of Leave No Trace. One of our main goals is to offer a great value for high-quality services. So we evaluate every expense carefully to ensure that every cost we incur makes a tangible difference in your experience. We want to have the best service at a fair price without compromising our high standards.

Climbing Kili is not a simple task. I would classify it as a true adventure. There are a lot of decisions that need to be made in order to be successful. Everyone who climbs wants to the reach the top. Many do not. If you want to make it to the top there are a few early decisions you can make to improve your chances of reaching the summit.
First, choose your route wisely. The more time you spend on the mountain the better your chances are to reach the summit. We climbed the Northern Curcuit which is the longest route to the summit. Yes, you invest extra time and money to take this route, but everyone in our group made it to the summit with no negative altitude issues and no injuries.
Second, you do need to spend time prior to the trip walking and carrying a load. This is not a technical climb, but having your body used to walking with weight for extended periods of time makes the trip more enjoyable. There are many recommended training strategies, we simply walked every day for many months carrying weighted backpacks. On weekends we took extended walks on any hill we could find. Some days it might only be for 30 minutes, but adding the weight and being consistent supported our success on the mountain.
Third, pick a reputable group to climb with. We chose Peak Planet because they offered the route, had years of experience on the mountain, supported their porters, and had a demonstrated track record of success. Communications and questions were responded to promptly and with clarity.
We were fortunate to be paired with our lead guide Davis and his crew. They were great. We learned later that Davis has been to the top hundreds of time and has a greater than 95% success rate with his climbers reaching the summit. The crew was mindful and supportive of us throughout our time on the mountain. Davis and his team clearly laid out for us what would be expected of us to make it to the top and then they were there to support us all the way.
If you choose Peak Planet, which I can recommend, you can request Davis and his team and I recommend you do so.

My peak planet trip was originally the 8 day Machame route but I was able to alter it to the Lemosho route free of charge due to COVID affecting the group numbers.
I can honestly say that this experience wouldn’t have been half as good, if I hadn’t gone with Peak Planet. Our lead guide Davis, and assistant guide Rebman were incredible at ensuring our safety and success rate was high so we were able to summit with no problems. Although the porters were all picked at random, I was not able to tell who was a permanent member of Peak planet, and who wasn’t. They all worked fantastically as a team- smiling, singing, laughing and keeping our spirits high. Considering we were climbing a mountain with limited resources around, the service was out of this world. Francis the chef, will cook you hot tasty meals that won’t disappoint. I’m sure I actually put on weight because the food was that good!! Every time we reached camp, everything was set up, a hot flask was ready on the table from Puice the waiter, with an assortment of tea, coffee and hot chocolate available. A very welcomed treat. The porters who carried our bags ( Richard, Jon and Aminiel) met us 10 minutes before we reached camp every day to carry our day packs. Our boots were dusted down and were given a bowl of hot water every morning and night to wash. With strict weight limitations for your duffel bag, therefore not carrying many changes of clothes, meant this was something that was very welcome!
The pace set by the guides allowed us to acclimatise with ease. A lot of the other tour groups were speeding past which meant some of them really struggled with energy levels and acclimatisation. Every step the guides take, is with us in mind and the climb route has been perfected from years of experience climbing with different groups of ranging abilities. I could go on and on describing all the details but it would be fantastic if more people would brave the travel during COVID and experience this trip of a lifetime. It really did feel more exclusive as there were hardly any other groups climbing and the summit was empty for our group to explore and take pictures. If you are thinking of ticking this off your list, I urge you to choose this company. Please don’t let COVID put you off coming. The staff are very well equipped with sanitisation and they need your support and tourism to keep this wonderful trek alive.

I climbed with Peak Planet during the pandemic, and prior to the trip, I was concerned (of course) about the trip and about traveling during this unusual time. Peak Planet has undertaken every course of action to ensure their clients' safety. My guide, Caspar, and his team wore masks and practiced social distancing, and they had daily temperature checks. Soap and water were readily available for my use.
When I booked this trip before the pandemic, I chose Peak Planet over other tour operators because of their obvious professionalism. My guide performed daily medical checks to ensure that I was climbing safely, and I was confident that he could respond to any medical issue I might have faced. In fact, when guides from other companies were unprepared to treat their clients, they sought out my guide's help. And having a guide who's summitted over 400 times is also invaluable. Another company's guide got lost on the summit hike and cost his client an extra hour of hiking on an already-difficult climb!
I can't say enough good things about the professionalism of Peak Planet and of Caspar--or about the friendliness of Caspar's team of porters and cooks. In every way, it was an excellent climb.

I could not have been more pleased with Peak Planet from start to finish. Response time to enquiries was rapid and instilled confidence. The price for a private tour was a minimal additional sum and allowed for more flexibility. The equipment was excellent. I do not believe I would have reached the summit without the exceptional support of our chief and assistant guide (Bosco and Simon) Throughout the entire process with twice a day medical checks, perfect pacing, excellent food I could not have been more pleased. From airport pickup to drop off in a different city for the start of the Safari I always felt that I had a protective hand guiding me.

We booked a 4-day safari and 10-day Lemosho route Kilimanjaro trek through Peak Planet and it was the best decision! Everything associated with this trip surpassed my expectations. The people, the food, the places we stayed, it all made for the most incredible experience. Peak Planet makes booking and figuring out logistics super easy. For the safari, the route and accommodations that they arranged were perfect. We stayed in beautiful and comfortable lodges and campsites in the national parks. Our guide, Dennis, was our favorite part of the safari! He was so kind, knowledgeable, and genuine. For the trek, we were a group of 15 hikers and we had 53 crew members helping us up the mountain! Every single one of them did everything they could to make sure that we were comfortable, taken care of, and successfully summited - which all 15 of us did! If you are looking to book a safari or Kilimanjaro trek, book with Peak Planet!!! You won't regret it!

Kilimanjaro - Lemosho route for 8 days over Christmas 2022 was an experience our family will remember forever. Our family of 4- my husband and I and our 2 kids age 12(F) and 14(M) undertook this trip of a lifetime and were ecstatic with the service provided by Peak planet. The climb itself was physically demanding but the guides did everything to allow us to summit safely and successfully. Our Guides Meshack and Declan were knowledgeable and careful and kind. Their attention to detail made all the difference in our success when we saw 7 other climbers in better shape than us turn back with other companies. My son had some nosebleeds and my oxygen level dropped to the low 60's and they had a fairly extensive emergency kit including oxygen available. I saw other outfitters with not even a bandaid available for their clients. When we booked them, I had shopped around and they were not the cheapest, but pretty soon on the trail it became apparent why- the quality of service, food, tents and guides were far superior to other travel companies I had encountered on the way. Plus they are one of the very few companies that actually pay their porters a fair wage. This was a big factor in choosing companies for me. I couldn't believe other companies were paying porters $3 a day to carry 20 kilos up and they had to rely on the generosity of the clients to make a living wage. we followed the Kilimanjaro trek with 6 day safari which was meticulously planned and executed, Comfortable 4x4 vehicles with USB ports and coolers made the safari a very enjoyable experience. We stayed in luxury lodges with excellent food and service. We did manage to see all the big 5. Even saw tree lions in the shade and a lion making a kill with the pride waiting around for their turn to feed. After this wonderful safari we did the Royal Zanzibar Hotel stay for 4 days and 3 nights and it was the perfect end for our vacation.
I would definitely recommend peak planet to anyone considering a trip to Tanzania. From booking with our consultant Ben to guides throughout the trip we got white glove service and expert guidance in navigating such an unfamiliar but exciting environment.

The service has excellent as well as our entire support staff of 23. The food was so good especially the soup. We liked how the porters would meet us along the trail to take our knapsacks. Peak was the only company that I saw offering this service.
Our guides always stressed safety first and they did an excellent job at keeping our pace as slow as possible, which is why all 6 of us made it to the top. When 1 of our team members staring having altitude issues, our lead guide did everything he could to assure her that she would be fine and she bounced right back and made it to the top with out any more issues.
I know the ladies in our group really liked having our own person bathroom since the public ones were horrible. I would recommend to anyone going to Kilimanjaro to make sure the company they use has their own private bathroom.
Overall, our group was very impressed with how smoothly everything ran and I highly recommend anyone wanting to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro to considering using Peak Planet.

Cannot thank Peak Planet enough for helping me realize a dream that was 10 years in the making. Every detail of the logistics was thought through with a strong focus on health and safety. Stella Maris provided a warm welcome and clear view of Kilimanjaro on the first day from my room. Davis, Deo and Emmanuel were wonderful guides, maintaining a sense of humor and morale throughout. Everyone in the extended team of porters was so friendly and caring - truly one big family. Those guys have a tough job with all they carry but each day camp was set up for our arrival, tea was ready and they'd even come and find us on the last sections of the trail and offer to carry our day packs for the final stretch. As we increased elevation, I received a Nalgene hot watter bottle to get me through the last three cold nights -no detail missed. Fabulous 6-day safari afterwards with knowledgeable and patient guide, Alladin accommodating every request for a photo stop while providing deep insights to life and wildlife in Tanzania. Each camp provided a truly warm welcome and we lacked for nothing in large and comfortable tents/lodges. Tucked away in Arusha, Researchers Rest is a special sanctury where Eddie and his staff go out of their way to help out (printing covid forms, finding guidebooks, arranging tour of coffee plantation). The food everywhere was outstanding and the trip was great value. Won't forget this trip as long as I live.

When selecting an outfit we were looking for one that had a high success rate, took safety seriously and also had a trustworthy team on the ground. From the initial booking process, the covid impacted delays and various rebooking steps through to the actual trek and summit everyone from Peak Planet was fantastic. Thank you to Ben in managing the many moving parts and ensuring everything ran smoothly to get us to the start. Caspar and his lead team of guides then took over and were outstanding. They led a group of 12 from different countries, backgrounds and experiences and got us to the summit and back safely. We were looking for an experience and memories that we can cherish. Peak Planet along with the fabulous 10 others in our group made sure it happened. I would highly recommend.

I cannot recommend this company enough! If you're considering climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro, please select this company. I did a lot of comparisons between companies to compare what they offered, as well as their ethical approach and they stood out as the company to select. Since selecting, I have not been disappointed. During the pandemic, before our trip, their approach was above and beyond, and when we were still able to do our planned trip, during the trip, they were outstanding. The whole staff (from the main office, to the drivers, to the Stella Maris Moshi Hotel (that is non-profit, to solely fund the adjacent school), to the guides, chef and porters) were excellent. The food was delicious too. I would definitely recommend the 10-day Lemosho route, as it's simply stunning, whilst giving great acclimatization. We summited 02.10.2020 during covid mountain conditions - it was magical, as we practically had the entire mountain, from start to finish, to ourselves. We were made to feel very safe with their procedures and we had a trip of a life time that was out of this world.

I am currently communicating with Peak Planet about a Kilimanjaro climb and 4-day safari They have been most gracious about answering my questions since I've been making inquiries on and off for a number of years! But I'm now retired and ready to commit to fulfilling this lifelong dream. I am an experienced solo traveler, but I find I am a little nervous about booking a solo safari. Has anyone done this - especially women - and willing to share your experience? I have looked for a small group safari to join, but that doesn't seem to be a common offering. The only ones I have found are very cheap (which is worrisome) or very expensive (and out of my budget), and the reviews are mixed. Peak Planet has a good price and excellent ratings... I suppose I am just looking for an extra layer of assurance from someone who has actually traveled alone across the Serengeti :) Thank you!

Hello Sally, I am happy to hear you want to fulfill a life long dream to climb Mount Kilimanjaro and 4 day safari solo. You won't regret it and it will be a life changing experience you'll never forget. My friend and I did a private safari tour and not once did we ever feel unsafe. You will be amongst travelers from all over the world and the Safari tent sites take pride in making sure customers are safe. Also, we ran into several solo travelers on the mountain and during the safari who were doing it for a 2nd or 3rd time. I know you will have the time of your life and you'll be in safe hands with Peak Planet. Best wishes and safe travels!

How were the tents?
Did you summit at night or morning?
What were the pre-climb accommodations?
Thanks,
Mac

The sleeping tent was adequate but not anything special. The mess tent did leak in the last couple of days when there was heavy rain and I thought it could be bigger to accommodate all 12 of us.
We started hiking at midnight in hopes t.o summit at 6:30A but it took us until 10:30A b/c the snow storm
Pre climb night was spent at a local lodge. It has a courtyard in the middle and has Mt Kili in the backdrop. Our room was big, clean and had patio but the wifi and hot water were unpredictable. Communication was lacking about what was included - before we left for the climb, we were all charged with different amount of money for food and water consumed there (the food was just served and we weren't told of the costs beforehand so you may want to clarify before you ask consume anything so to avoid surprises).
