It was such a beautiful waterfall, perfectly hidden away in the beautiful forest. The tour itself was an amazing experience and definitely worth the visit. I learnt a lot about the history of Moshi and the hike to the waterfall itself was wonderful.

I had a great time touring Old Moshi with Gabby. Learned a lot about the history of Moshi and the culture and beliefs of the Chagga tribe. Also had a memorable visit to the local orphanage where they welcomed us with big arms. To end the day we did a beautiful hike to Mambori Falls -an old starting point for hiking Kilimanjaro.
Asante Gabby for a great tour!

I was reccommended by another tour guide in Tanzania to join one the Old Moshi cultural tours and it was best decision ever! I had a full day local experience covering many different activities: visiting the local markets, going up the hill with local people transportation; hiking to see the beautiful waterfalls and through the Forrest; visiting the 1st church in the area and remains from the German colonial times; a delicious and abundant lunch cooked and served by the guide family, banana beer tasting and coffee plantation visit! My guide even took me bus station to help me with my next day journey. 100% reccommended!

A tour with Old Moshi Cultural Tourism Enterprise is a must for all visitors to Kilimanjaro region. Gabby and his team are all locals from the Old Moshi villages with profound knowledge about the Wachagga community: history, culture, nature and food. They also support the local community with their tours. I worked with Gabby to set up the photo exhibition and video sculpture "Mangi Meli Remains" and help him and Mzee Isaria Anael Meli to built a memorial of Chief Meli next to the tree, where he was hanged by the German colonialists together with 18 other chiefs and leaders from Kilimanjaro and Meru on the 2nd March 1900. The exhibition tells the story of Mangi Meli's resistance against German occupation, of his brave death and the ongoing search for his head, which was shipped to Germany for racist scientific research. Until today, Mzee Isaria and the community is searching for it without success.
Some traces of the colonial history can still be found in Old Moshi: Songs, stories, but also places like the hanging tree, the market hall, the German cemetary, the stone house of Meli and his successors, the place of the former German military station (the school building is built by the British after they demolished the station. Now it is used by the District Council) and Kidia, built by German Lutheran missionaries from Leipzig.
Do a tour with one of the guides through the village, hike in the wonderful nature, spend some days on the fresh and green foothills of Kilimanjaro. And of course visit the exhibition!

Great experience to let us know the culture and the day to day life of the inhabitants of old Moshi
We went to the local market to purchase everything with Ichikael our guide then we cooked a traditional lunch for the family
A very good maner to understand the culture and have great conversations
We visited the public school also with all the children that offered us a song
and we really want to help them as they really need support for their classrooms
We fully recommend this experience

This tour is a great way to learn about the resistance of Chagga people to German colonialism, and to support local community members in their effort to develop grassroots cultural tourism. The tour includes a visit of former colonial settlements and a history of Mangi Meli, the Chagga chief who resisted to German colonial troops and was murdered in Old Moshi. A permanent exhibition will even be installed as of March 2019 with historical photographs and a video installation.
The team (Gabby, Anold, Aleni, Salome) were very friendly. The food was excellent, and Gabby and Salome were able to arrange a vegetarian option for me. The coffee making tour was a highlight (try a "kahawa shot") and the walk to the waterfall led through plantain fields and lush nature which enabled Anold to tell me about local knowledge on traditional medicine and rituals involving plants.
This tour is the best way for you to support a local project and contribute to community empowerment!

On arrival in Moshi town for Kilimanjaro trekking adventure, we had 2 days to acclimatize before tour begin. Our Travel Agency Kilimanjaro Safari Holidays, we did learn history of chagga local people at Slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro at Old Moshi area.
We visited waterfalls, German Missionaries Church, German military station, especially in the building’s architecture, the cemetery, and Chagga resistance against Germany colonial invasion history. It was fantastic short sightseeing tour.

We called Gabby and were easily able to arrange a tour and transport from our hotel! The service was great! We spend the day with our guide Jonas, the hike down to the waterfall was challenging but Jonas made sure we were safe the whole time!
After 5 hours of hiking we stopped for lunch at the homestay and got to eat lunch with Jonas' mother! It was hands down one of the best meals we had in our 3 weeks I Moshi!
The whole team is great, and we highly recommend spending the day with them!

My mum and me had a very nice day in Old Moshi with our guide Gabby. We went to a beautiful waterfall, visited a coffee and vanilla farm where we made our own coffee, had a very good lunch and learned a lot about chagga culture. We would do it again.
