The whole day exceeded our expectations! The waterfall was great and we got to enjoy it to the fullest! Our guide Adam told us everything from plants to animals and Chaga culture during The hike to the waterfall. The coffee tour was a delight with singing and dancing and we felt the good vibes all the way. And the vegetarian food that was included was DELICIOUS!!! Also, thank you Victor for drivning us and teaching us Swahili. Thank you so much from manca, mkunde, haika! (Miranda, Amiira, Essi) ❤

We really enjoyed our trip, especially thanks to our lovely guide Noella. If you book this trip, I recommend asking for Noella as your guide. We had a walk through the forest, while our guide explained us everything about the nature and the animals. After a 30 minute walk, we reached the Materuni Waterfall, which was beautiful. Then we continued our walk to the Materuni village, where we had a delicious lunch with banana soup and other local dishes. After lunch we learned the process of making coffee while the locals were singing and dancing.
Please take into account that you pay a little more than just your trip and transportation, since it is expected to tip the locals.

We have had an amazing day in Materuni with our lovely guide Mercy. The walk through the beautiful nature was filled with so much interesting information about the plants, animals and of course the Chagga-Tribe. The Waterfall was just amazing, definitely recommend a swim even though you need to be a bit brave to jump in the cold water.
The Coffee Plantation afterwards was an experience for itself - delicious food, amazingly friendly people and so much fun during the musical coffee preparation!
If you think coffee making is boring you’ll definitely know better after this experience.
Thanks to Mercy! We could not have wished for a better guide for the day.

Asante Sana Rafiki!

The worst experience while traveling in Tanzania. Once getting to the village with the dala dala from Moshi, we wanted to simply walk in the town and explore on our own but the local youngsters stopped us with the information that we cannot walk in the town without paying an entrance fee. An entrance fee to walk in a village?! After some discussions which started to be unpleasant including the guys stepping into our way, we decided to walk down (under the dala stop) to see the office. The “official” tourist office was just a plain table outside of some house and they were not able to show us any official proof that it is a government tracked payment which is what they claimed. When we decided to leave and walk down, the group of the young locals were yelling at us some not welcoming phrases such as that we should return to our countries. I never experienced this anywhere in the world. Definitely not recommendable!

Visited this after a visit to the waterfall. Had 1st hand experience on how to make coffee the traditional way. Was nice having the village "boy band" singing while you were pounding coffee beans. Pretty fun.

My guide named Mercy made this trip to Materuni Village so interesting. From the start of the tour at the waterfall to the Cultural village she pointed out indigenous plants, told me how the Bananna plant is harvested and recycled and so much more including the life style and education of the children and people who live on the region. I also got a quick history lession on the Chagga tribe. The experience at the Cultural Village is excellent with interactive participation in the coffee manufacturing process.
The lunch which included a typical traditional local stew which was delicious together with a tasting of banana beer made for a a really interesting experience I would highly recommend it.

We had the most beautiful time in this one-day trip tour. The wonderful Mercy and Julius pick us up early in the morning (they arrived earlier, always a good sign) and drove us up the mountain to the Chagga area. Both local to Moshi, Julius knows the difficult road and how to tackle it, while Mercy told us about her Chagga tribe and what makes them special. First, a small hike of around 2.5kms to the beautiful waterfall. As we got there early, had the waterfall to ourselves. Don't miss going in the water, it feels freezing cold at first but it's fine after a few minutes, and under and behind the falls: it's magical. After hiking back on a different route, we find a hidden little community where we were told how they got into coffee making and immersed us in the process, to the tune of the drums and catchy songs and dances. After tasting the delicious coffee we made, we filled our bellies with delicious homemade food. We don't remember much the way back, maybe because we were digesting the wonderful food. Or maybe because our minds were lost in the beautiful surroundings. In any case, asante Kisambi tours for organising this and to Mercy and Julius for delivering it. Wewe ni wa ajabu.

A really great day. We were picked up from our hotel and taken to the Materuni village where we had a beautiful walk to the picturesque waterfalls where you can swim if you like! Then we learnt all about the history of coffee in the area and how it was made, and we made our own cup of coffee with some of the guys from the village who sang and danced with us. The lunch was delicious - a huge spread of different dishes. In the afternoon we visited the hotsprings - a beautiful and tranquil place where you can swim, relax and grab a drink. Our tour guide, Peter, was knowlegable, helpful, and a really fun guy. Highly recommend.

We signed up for this tour as an “acclimation day” upon our arrival in Tanzania. It was so much more than that! Our guide Mercy was terrific — informative, genuine, warm, friendly, and fun. She made us feel truly welcome in the village, as did every resident we met. The hike to the waterfall was beautiful, the cultural education interesting, the lunch very tasty, and the coffee demonstration was a both a performance to observe and a participatory event — as well as yielding delicious coffee! Even if you have done coffee tours elsewhere, this will be worth it. We had a blast. Thank you so much, Mercy!!

I loved this peaceful place surrounded by green nature just below the Kilimanjaro. The people there were amazing, very kind, funny and with great attention to guests, but above all to nature. (Especially our guide Dennis)
I enjoyed the hiking to the waterfalls, passing through local people and beautiful landscape and I really enjoyed the sunset at the border with the Kilimanjaro national park. Apart from that the food was delicious, and the rooms very comfortable.
