6 Day Machame route standard climb

For those who only have six days to climb Kilimanjaro, the Machame route is the best choice because of its acclimatization profile. Compared to other six day routes, the Machame route exposes the climber to higher elevations quicker (day three) which kickstarts the body’s adaptation to altitude. However, this route requires that a person be in good shape to be able to tackle the challenging elevation gains and losses.

The six day Machame variation is a difficult route. In particular, day four combined with day five makes for a very hard schedule. Day four is a full day of hiking from Barranco to Barafu. Then after dinner and a partial night’s sleep, the very long and strenuous summit day begins around midnight. The 6 day Machame route requires 19-24 hours of demanding walking, at extremely high elevation, with only 4-6 hours of sleep.

We could not recommend Gazelle Adventures enough! We thoroughly enjoyed our experience that we had with the Gazelle team. Chriss is a fantastic owner, he personally looked after all of our needs. Abe was an absolute pleasure to work with, emailing for months to put our trip together. Our team who got us up Mount Kilimanjaro, lead by Prosper and Martin, were so great. It was by far one of the best experiences both Mark and I have had. We summited on my 30th birthday and the team surprised me with a cake and bubbles. We had a 15min party on top of Africa and it is something we will never forget. After kili we did a 6 day safari lead by our fantastic guide Deo. We learnt so much from him and saw some amazing sightings. Tarangire National park, the Serengeti, Ngorongoro and Lake Manyara. All the park so beautiful and well worth a visit 😊 Overall, we were so impressed with the services provided and the team at Gazelle. We have walked away with new friends and amazing memories. Oh, and for anyone worried about food, both our chefs were amazing, we loved the GF and DF food that we received. Lots of fresh veg and fruit and just so delicious! Thank you for making our trip so wonderful ❤️

I met with Chris in Moshi to book a trip to climb Kilimanjaro on the Machame route. He has a great reputation around the town and I felt comfortable at every step booking the trip for myself and a friend. He provided all the information and assurances I wanted and actually delivered on everything promised and more! He even picked my friend up from the airport even though I had not negotiated it in the price. I always got the feeling the company’s priority was to deliver a quality service above everything else. He and his entire crew were professional and very friendly to make the experience a truly memorable one. A big shoutout to our guide Martin who was very knowledgeable and overall a solid guy! If you have him as a guide you can rest assured you will be taken care of and will have a super fun trek!

At very much the last minute, I met with Chriss of Gazelle Adventures one evening to discuss a bespoke 5-day safari for myself and my wife to Tarangire, Serengeti and Ngorongoro from/to Kili airport. I relied on his advice and experience which proved to be just what we envisaged. Chriss organised everything (car, driver, park fees, ‘basic camp’ accommodation in public camp sites etc) and the following morning we were ready to go. We must write a few words about our driver Raymond - not only an excellent guide through the parks but a safe patient and reliable driver, always most helpful. We must have travelled about 1,000 miles! Despite the price (which is not untypical for the itinerary), we thought the five days was great value…based on our experience, we can thoroughly recommend Gazelle.

Thanks to Gazelle Adventures, I could make the most out of my short stay in Tanzania. Abe and Chriss were so kind and flexible to organise a bespoke one-day tour for me in a very short time and making sure it was affordable. Communication and availability was excellent. They were very responsive and welcoming. Anthony and Martin, on the day of my tour to Marangu, the Chagga caves (where I also made Arabica coffee!), and a Maasai village were always keen to satisfy my curiosity and answer my questions and tell me more about places, history, and traditions. I have wonderful memories of Tanzania and I owe them for contributing to my great experience in the country. Asante sana!
