About Diaz Express
The Diaz Express provides a scenic rail experience between Hartenbos and Great Brak River in the Garden Route of South Africa. The railway line is winding through a tunnel, over bridges, past precipices and indigenous plant life, with beautiful views over the Indian Ocean. Coupled with this excursion, is the fine cuisine and wines of the Transkaroo restaurant, in the old station building.

We enjoy it very much. However they can improve. Give some comment, with a small speaker system, of the surroundings and what these train power vans were used for and so forth. Obviously these train drivers, already over age to work, and still have a love for their job to still want to do something like this. They are under restrictions to not have more than 3 vans, such a pity. This can be a huge tourist attraction. I also agree that we also did not where the train start in Hartenbos, the station have another name. With this said, we still had a relaxing time and the OpiSpoor Pub and Grill in Grootbrak were we had lunch, had very good food.

It took us a while to locate the station from which this "Diaz Express 'Train'" would depart! Once found, we bought tickets and waited for the 'Train' to arrive! 20 minutes later, we were told that the 'Train' would wait for us. What happened was a tiny diesel 'cabin' pulling a second identical 'cabin' puttered into view and pulled to a halt at the platform… it was empty! We were at the terminal. There were 2 rows of seats in each 'cabin,' which were uncomfortable and hard. We took the front seats… and waited! Eventually we started… it was noisy and travelled at a meagre 15-20kph. Views were listed, as we travelled on a rail line hiding in a rail gorge, that occasionally revealed a view to the sea! About 30 mins later, we pulled into a rail yard and stopped… for 2 hours!!!! allowing some passengers to buy a lazy lunch with wine before returning to the train to continue another 15 minutes, the turning round to go back top the terminal. Almost a complete waste of time and money! Not worth going on!

Highly recommend this awesome train ride with scenic stops along the way for a bite or drink. Just one complaint. When pulling out of the station the train track was littered with rubbish, Which was not a pleasant start to the journey. Clean it up please.

We did the 3 hr tour. Was not what i expected. They should think of adding tour commentary to the Train ride as we just sat in silence. The stop at the lunch/padstal was ok but .."boring". I think it has potential but some work to be done.

For some reason everyone thought that we were going on a short train trip. So they were thoroughly disappointed with what they got. Best try to get a seat next to the ‘crew’. They are informative, entertaining and really great with the kids. The kids really loved the trip. For us adults it was ok. Great views but not something we have not seen before. For a family outing fantastic.
