We had arranged a 6-day tour through Rwanda's south and west with BTG. It was like a firework of new experiences. The BTG team takes care of practically everything from the first hotel pick up to the drop off at the airport: inbetween there are alle sorts of transfers, tickets, tours, and above all excellent time keeping. So even with a tight daily program there is no need for hectic. On the contrary: relaxing has never been easier.

The tours: We booked activities in Nyanza (king's palace), Nyungwe (canope walk), lake kivu (night fishing, hiking on the congo nile trail) and at the twin lakes in musanze (volcanoe hill walk, bike tour, boat & island tour). All of them were so rich in impressions that one would have to spend the same amount of time again in order to adequately "digest" the many cultural and natural experiences. The program was well designed: Mostly activities in the rain-free morning, then lunch in local restaurants. Later we went to the next accommodation and chilled by the lake, the mountain or the fireplace.

The team: super attentive, tireless, very committed and creative. Even spontaneous ideas, like buying coffee or sugar cane from the producer, were taken up and implemented swiftly. Local guides accompany all tours knowledgeable about the place.

Transfers: great driver. From traffic jam in Kigali to offroad everything mastered with bravura, calm and the necessary composure. The Landrover weakens noticeably on steep climbs, but is in the best company of all other Landrovers and trucks in the country. On the other hand, the 1000 picturesque Rwandan hills eventually bring all hikers and cyclists to their limits anyway. Inexperienced outdoor enthusiasts should therefore definitely seek BTG's advice.

In short: anytime again. I am looking forward to your next trip to and through Rwanda.

What an incredible three days! Thank you Beyond the Gorillas for an amazing trip. The pick up
at my hotel in Kigali, the many stops for pictures along the way, the market visit, the boat ride, and especially the school visit. Those five year olds - what a greeting! It was all so awesome and culturally rich. I really appreciated the way you incorporated the entire local community into the experience. And you really should be commended for your social enterprise model, that of helping the communities through training and support!

LOL … when I come back in better shape, I want to do the Mount Mbwe hike, Twin Lakes boat tour and definitely the lunch on Michael Island again! Thanks again for an unforgettable experience!

Theo and the Beyond the Gorillas Experience team organised an amazing camping trip for myself and my colleagues. The tents and equipment were very comfortable and cosy despite the cold temperatures at night – the hot water bottles were much appreciated. The food was delicious and plentiful. Theo and the team also did an excellent job of organising things quickly and efficiently and were very communicative. Many thanks!

We did a 2-3 hour village tour and it was my absolute highlight in Rwanda. My family and I had an opportunity to tour a village and meet a majority of the community. We were warmly welcomed by all and were given an authentic insight into the daily lives of the people of the community. The owner of the company, Theo, gave us an amazing and insightful tour into the history and current practices of the village. We met so many cute children, it was difficult to say goodbye! This company (a social enterprise) is doing great things for the most vulnerable in the country of Rwanda and I highly recommend everyone to experience it for themselves.

We spent a great afternoon with Theo hiking to a few villages and learning about life there. We made banana beer with a couple local families (and got to taste it, as well), then hiked up a hill for a great view. Our walk coincided with schoolchildren leaving and we turned out to be quite the attraction. Got lots of fun photos with the kids

Booked this hike with less than 24 hours and they did everything to arrange it all at short notice including the pick up from my hotel in kigali .

The start of the hike is about 2 hours outside kigali and is a moderate hike . A proper moderate hike - it is not an easy one .

It's just over 1000m of climbing and took me about 2 hours 10 mins of walking to complete (excluding a 10mins pit stop when we got guava from a local farmer and stopped to eat then ) . The original guide to top is 3.5 hours and that would allow for lots of stopping /breaks

Track is a dirt/earth road most of the hike with a little Forrest at the top! Do take the pole that is offered - I was reluctant to take it b it was glad I did as parts are extremely slippery- my butt did hit the ground on the way down on one occasion.

At the top you are treated to drink of your choice and some freshly cooked snacks - I highly recommend the ginger tea - was fantastic . Do tell them your dietary requirements as they are very flexible !!!
The way down was slightly different to way up so plenty of variety of scenery and Francis is full of information on all the plants and vegetation!

Overall great trip - John the driver arrived early and was a very safe driver and I was back in Kigali by 4pm

I had an incredible experience with Beyond the Gorillas on Mt.Kabuye in Gakenke District, and I can’t recommend them highly enough! From start to finish, the team made every moment memorable and enjoyable.

Special thanks to our amazing guides, Habihirwe Theophile and Irakoze Esther, who went above and beyond to share their deep knowledge and passion for Mt.Kabuye and the beautiful environment. Their warmth, professionalism, and expertise made the trek truly special. They are, without a doubt, the best guides anyone could ask for!

A huge thank you also goes to Ikundabayo Gabriel, My porter. His discipline, helpfulness, and kind support throughout the journey made everything easier and more enjoyable. I couldn’t have done it without him!

If you're considering a trek with Beyond the Gorillas, don't hesitate. This team will make your adventure unforgettable!

Planning for MUHUNGWE soon!!

Theodore, Esther and Beyond the Gorillas Experience team went above and beyond regard the scenic walk day tour around the volcanoes. I had an amazing time. I’m solo travel visiting Rwanda for the first time. My hotel was in Kigali and since I wanted more of the experience, I planned to take the 3hr bus ride from Kigali bus station to Musanze bus station, then I would mostly likely transfer to a private car to the tour meet point. Theodore gracefully arranged the trip to the meet point and back to the hotel. I was first collected at the Kigali hotel to the bus station placed on the bus to Musanze and picked up by Esther. The hike, landscape and views of the volcanoes including the Bisoke volcano were amazing. Esther provided insights regarding plant and animal life. We were fortunate to see the golden monkeys outside the park. Our interactions with the locals were brief but wonderful. Lunch at the camp was exceptional. Many thanks again to Theodore, Esther and the team.

I am traveling solo here in Rwanda and I am so happy to have Esther and Theo of Beyond Gorillas organize some events for me. They really go beyond! Esther met w me, got to know me and what I’m interested in. She was great company w me at Bisoke and explained everything - what to bring, what to do and most importantly to go at my own pace and enjoy the nature! They also organized four days of experience where I stayed at really beautiful places, had an excellent driver and visited natl park (canopy walk!!), and museums on my way back to Kigali. From these experiences I am convinced to come back to Rwanda. Thank you Esther and Theo for showing me the best of Rwanda and making me feel comfortable and welcome.🙏🇷🇼❤️

I hiked Mt Karisimbi with Beyond the Gorillas - who organized everything really smoothly. They handled all the permit application process efficiently, had gear rental well prepared in advance, and arranged a good number of Porters to support. The gear they used was top notch for the weather. The food was really delicious too. Their price was the best on the market. Would definitely go with them again
