My friends and I had an incredible experience with The Roots of Nyabingi Heritage Center! Joseph and Jamale were amazing tour guides and friends. We did a hike, boat tour, and visited the cultural centre for local food, dance, and history. HIGHLY recommend for all visitors. It's even worth stopping here if you weren't originally planning on going through Musanze. Beautiful part of Rwanda, beautiful people, and beautiful culture!

The Roots is a tour operator, founded by young people from Rwanda, whose activity is recognized by the government. Focusing on green and sustainable tourism is an initiative that certainly deserves to be valued. We took a tour of Twin Lake with the company and were greeted with care and professionalism by all of the staff, who were committed to making the tour a memorable one, which indeed was. Special mention to the guide Jean Marie, for the knowledge and professionalism. It is worth knowing Rwanda with them.

I spent 2 days with the guides from The Roots of Nyabingi Heritage Center in Butaro, Rwanda and can't say enough about the experience. They offer several different experiences in this rural community in northern Rwanda. I spent both days with Joseph and Gilbert, who were lovely and very knowledgable. The first day, we took a long walk through the marsh, where we did bird watching and they taught me a lot about the conservation work that they are doing in the local community. Both Joseph and Gilbert were very interesting and easy to talk with. On the second day, we hiked to Lake Burera and were met by a boat that we took across the lake. On our trip across the lake, they showed me the small island that they have a campsite on, which is another activity that they offer. In the afternoon, we went back to the heritage center and were greeted by a local dance troop, who shared the local dance and activities with me. There is a small museum explaining the origins of the local area. They also prepared a local meal for me to try. The time I spent with Joseph and Gilbert was fantastic and one of the highlights of my time in Rwanda.
