We enjoyed an hours boat ride on this vast lake. We were fortunate to see hippos, and plenty of birds and across the lake on the Island other animals. The guide treated us to throwing a fish up in the air for the eagles to come and catch, which was a great experience.
The only thing that let this down, was across the lake near where the animals were- plastic bottles in the water. Also a heron with a fishing net caught in its bill.
Surely in order to keep this lake beautiful it shouldnt take much for the locals /guides to occasionally go round and collect the rubbish.

Spent about one hour on a boat "safari" on Lake Naivasha. Unfortunately, it was rainy out that morning, but that didn't change how great the tour was. You're not likely to get that close to wild hippos in their own habitat. However, there were some interesting birds, including a lot of eagles. There were also some four-legged creatures on the shores. The lake area was also the sight for filming portions of the movies Born Free, Living Free and Out of Africa. Definitely take the boat tour. Hopefully you'll have a sunny day.

The lake is lovely, you can enjoy boat rides, see hippos. The lake of late has seen an increase in the water levels. Most of the hotels front the lake. Great place for a family or business picnic.

Our boat ride on the lake looked a little sketchy at first, but we ended up having a lovely time. There was rain in the distance but we were lucky to get in our ride before it rained on our side of the lake. Was the only place in Kenya where we saw flamingoes. The variety of birdlife was crazy. Especially loved the eagles.

Spent a half a day here enjoying a boat ride on the lake and a visit to Crescent Island. It was a sunshine day on the lake and it felt great. The Island was pretty neat, water bucks, giraffes, zebras, gazelles, impalas, They filmed part of Out of Africa here and the animals are descendants of some of those animals. A very relaxing day!

Had 2 wonderful boat trips on Lake Naivasha. Saw so many water birds and many, many hippos. Even watched the boatmen enticing fish eagles to pick up fish, which they had thrown into the water. A beautiful sight.

We went on a boat ride. To our surprise we saw a large group of hippos within the first few minutes. We saw other hippos along the way too. We were dropped off at Crescent Island for a guided tour. As we'd seen all the animals on previous safaris it wasn't that exciting, but our guide John was interesting. Then it was back on the boat for a return trip admiring hippos once again.

Is there any way to naibasha from nairobi airport directly?
Written October 31, 2022
What is the best place to put into my GPS for a day trip to the lake?
Additionally, would there be any issues if I went on a Sunday (shops closed, etc)?
Written December 30, 2019
Just put Naivasha into your satnav. It will tale you to the town.
A lot of shops are closed on Sundays so it depends what you want to do. The boat trips offered at many locations will still be available.
