The view is spectacular and some cozy chairs at the restaurant and in front of our room were available to sit back and relax and enjoy. The host is very attentive to her guests needs as is her staff. The rooms were clean and had a fan which made it cool as we felt it was cooler here than in Accra. The kids loved the horse riding but they also enjoyed the opportunity to brush, feed and bath the houses. Our children have not taken lessons before but we felt the safe given the temperament of the horses. Prices for room and meals are very reasonable. I would recommend for a few night stay.

I was a beautiful, calm time. You can witness the lake in its whole beauty sitting on the balcony. The food is amazing. I felt like a part of the family being welcomed by kids & the owner. Thank you for everything!

A beautiful place with a terrace overlooking the lake, surrounded by forest.
The owner is very friendly and helpful with everything. Also they actually try to run the lodge in an ecological fashion, offering delicious vegetarian meals. The horses are allowed to roam free and are treated well.
There is also a little beach available.
One of my favorite spots in Ghana.

I loved my time at The Green Ranch! I spent a weekend there during my summer long stay working in Cape Coast. Elodie and Kojo are terrific hosts. They were so accommodating to me and made sure I arrived and left the ranch safely and easily. The trail ride (especially around the whole lake) was absolutely beautiful, off the beaten track, and gave a nice glimpse into the village life around Lake Bosumtwi. The horses were also sure-footed, very sweet, and well taken care of. I had such a lovely and relaxing time here that it is a place I would go to over and over again. The food was also amazing!! I can't say enough great things about the ranch, Elodie & Kojo plus their staff, and horses. It is really the best riding you can get in Ghana and perfect for horse and riding enthusiasts.

My wife and I visited The Green Ranch on our trip to Lake Bosumtwe in late July 2012. It was an outstanding experience all the way around!
Likes: The warm welcome of Abena Elodie when I booked by phone the night before, the two hour ride along the lake, the welcomes and laughs of the villages as we rode along, the vegan lunch we had on our return. Abena also gave us the name and location of a great vegan restaurant in Kumasi - our current hometown.
Dislikes: Truly none. The road to The Green Ranch is pretty rough, but the local taxi drivers know how to negotiate it.
We look forward to our next visit!

Elodie and her crew will make you feel at home. Great conversations about historical background and contemporary issues in Ghana and the world. I also think I had the best food I have ever had at the Green Ranch.

I was in Ghana recently for a work project and while in Kumasi for a couple of weeks, I decided to make a trip to Lake Bosumtwi. The lake itself sounded well worth a visit, as it is a crater lake which was formed from the impact of a huge meteorite. It is not far from Kumasi (40km), and when I read about the Green Ranch and the option to trek around the lake, I knew it would be a really unique way to see the lake and surrounding areas.
The Green Ranch provided me with well detailed options about how best to get to the ranch. So, I took a tro-tro from Kumasi to Kuntanasse (GH₵ 1), and then a taxi from Kuntanase to the Green Ranch (GH₵ 15). Elodie was incredibly welcoming and made me feel right at home upon arrival. I had really delicious freshly cooked vegetarian meals (the best food I had eaten whilst in Ghana) with beautiful views over the lake during my weekend stay at the Green Ranch, as well as restful sleep in the lovely mud brick cottage!!
The trek itself was a truly amazing experience. We went through the villages surrounding the lake, where we were greeted by the locals - who were very excited to see the horses and foreigners on them!! It was a great way to see how the villagers live by the lake and it is a lasting experience I will keep with me. The lake itself is breathtaking as well as the beautiful forests, cocoa, corn, plantain, avocado and many other farms we trekked through. I had not ridden a horse in six years and prior to that I did not have had much horse riding experience - but Elodie helped me along the way and my horse Galaxy was phenomenal!
I really enjoyed my experience at the Green Ranch and thanks to Elodie and her wonderful hospitality - I decided to stay an extra night!! I would highly recommend the Green Ranch to anyone who wants to see the lake in an extraordinary way and experience great food, accommodation and friendliness from all at the Green Ranch.

We spent two nights here as a group of six friends and absolutely loved it! The staff were friendly and tended to all our needs. We rented blow-up kayaks, went swimming in the lake and went hiking nearby up the mountains. The Green Ranch has a fantastic view overlooking the lake and the facilities were basic but clean and well-maintained (rooms have their own private bathrooms but dorm guests use outdoor showers and drop toilets).
The meals consisted of fantastic vegetarian food (but make sure you ask how long meals will take as sometimes we waited for quite a while as food was freshly prepared for us). Drinking water is available for free and they were happy to provide us with wine glasses for the bottles of wine we brought with us.
Would definitely recommend this place to anyone staying at Lake Bosomtwe! We ate lunch at nearby Cocoa Village and were incredibly dissatisfied with their standard of service and the food options available from the menu (most items were unavailable and it took 2 hours to prepare), service was poor and we regretted venturing from Green Ranch for this disappointing meal.

Excuse my english...I gave them the 3 stars just because I liked the passion the lady has for the horses and how well she was able to help 7 new visitors on different horses while she ridden on 1...the location is horible and the road is very very bad and adventurous especially when it rains..every taxi driver wants to dry ur pocket to go there ...the rooms are clean but the food is not good ..maybe average cooks..all the same, it looks like a farm house with a good view of Bosomtwe Lake as i have attached to my comments ...I don't think I will ever go there though...but maybe if u want to ride horses in a ranch, forget about the bad roads and go there..

Dear Kwame G,
Thank you for ur comment.
I wish to let all the readers be aware that u actually forgot to mention that u 3 arrived at midnite and didn t appreciate the fact that some of the kitchen staff had been waiting for u for long hours, u were rather insulting them because u actually didn t know u were going to an eco-lodge set off-the-beaten tracks and u got very annoyed with ur never-ending journey that started late afternoon all the way from Tema (as u acknowledged to me the following day). U even told the taxi driver to hit one of the workers who was standing by the roadside to welcome u upon ur arrival with his car as ur girlfriend/sister was getting hysterical because of the last 2.8km of rough road ! How rude of u !
As for the food, u never ate anything at the Ranch except porridge and toasted bread on ur 1st morning and during the whole of u 3-person 2-night stay with us so how can u actually judge our food objectively ? Again u or let s say it that way ur girlfriend/sister totally disrepected the kitchen workers by throwing our menu down and talking to them anyhow to their greatest surprise (they obviously don t make the menu up, the Direction rather does).
If you wanted to stay in a hotel in town, why did u choose an equestrian leisure centre in the countryside ? The answer is simple : u did not know what u had booked. U tried neither the horse-riding, nor the vegetarian food nor even one of the boats (kayak or traditional).
Apart from stating that the last 2.8km stretch of road is indeed rough (but we love it at the Ranch as no car can drive fast on it hence no danger for the locals who live by the roadside, their children and animals and no dust :-) sorry to say but ur review is totally irrelevant.
With kind regards,
Elodie and the Green Ranch Family*

The Green Ranch is perfection. It's a little slice of peace of mind tucked in the hills surrounding Lake Bosomtwe (which is pretty amazing itself).
Within ten minutes of arriving, I felt like I had been lifelong friends with Abena, the French woman who owns and runs the ranch with her husband Kojo.
It was beautiful. I have no words. From the open air balcony overlooking the lake, to the gentle snorting of the horses (beautiful creatures), to the complete lack of mosquitoes (two words; neem trees), the Green Ranch gave me something I had spent the entire first half of the year looking for. It gave me peace.
We stayed till about 2am,drinking a very fine Shiraz and chatting about everything and nothing, African politics, hospitality in Ghana, how our hosts met (many feels. Much awwies).
Not once during those two hours did I feel like I was being offered a service. As a matter of fact, one tends to forget that the drinks are not free. The prices are nothing extravagant, as a matter of fact, quite considerably less than one would expect.
I almost regret putting this review up because I wish I could fold up the place and hide it in my pocket.
Don't go there if you can't respect nature. Don't go there if you can't have stimulating conversation. Don't go there at all. Leave it for me. (I'm selfish)
One thing, though. The loos are very "au naturelle" if you get what I mean. Be forewarned.
