About
At the center of town, Saint Martin's Church is a reminder of La Colonia Tovar's German history. The church's L-shape and stunning stained-glass windows make it well worth a trip.

One of Venezuela's most beautiful churches
This is an old church built by german inmigrants about 1850s. It has the typical bavarian style (white painted wood with black stripes), since those inmigrants came from "Schwarzbald" (Black forest, Selva Negra). It has a curious design, since it has two main halls forming a "L". Between them you will see the altar, which can be seen from both halls as well. There's also a plate with the name of the first child borned in the new colony, around 1851 or so. Outside the church lies the Town's Square (Plaza Bolivar), with the famous "Cafe Mushtahl" in front (oldest cafe in town, since late 18s). This is a must-see in Colonia Tovar! Have a nice Trip!

    La vida de la plaza
una plaza donde se concentra todo el q vaya a la colonia, siempre presente en eventos y viendo de cerca todos aquellos visitantes q siempre llegan, su estructrura es perfecta y cumple todas las funciones de una iglesia como tal.

If you are in Colonia Tovar, stop in this historical church. It has interesting architecture and history, but beware that there isn't going to be someone giving any tours. The whole area is self guided. I didn't get to enjoy it much because I was so sick from the car ride to the city. Vomit comet anyone?? What a horrible trip up/down a mountain!! Tips for the country in general: there are not a lot of English friendly speakers - at least if they know you are from the USA. Don't wear red in any shade (chavistas colors) or yellow (opposition). Camo is a no go as well. Don't talk politics period. Don't ever call yourself an American. This is a beautiful country with wonderful people, but you must be careful.

The church is placed in the middle of downtown. Surrounded by farmer’s markets. The church and chapel are a must see if you visit colonia tovar. Typical german construction. To hear the bells chiming is an event by itself.
Surrounded by little market places of local producers wonderful place to be and buy your produce. Don’t miss it

The pediment of this Church made it all the more beautiful and noticeable. Also, the inside was very silent. I prayed here on a Friday.

This church (Catholic) is beautiful and as all of Colonia Tovar , it has a Bavarian style. Colonia Tovar was founded in 1844 by German immigrants that came from the Baden region. More than 150 years after, it maintains its Bavarian flavor.

It's a nice quiet place Not much to see there though. They have a little Park in front of it where you could sit and chill with friends but that's about it.

Although Venezuela is a left-wing country, people are faithful and very religious. The day i visited colonia tovar the church was full of people who were praying and full of children in a very respectable environment. I think you must visit this place. Financial crisis in Venezuela in the peak, although people don't forget their local church and customs.

La Colonia Tovar - es lugar maravilloso:)
Is very differento from typical Venezuela, different from all.
You can find fresh strawberry ( even if it is too acid, not sweet).
If you travel to Venezuela - this place is MUST SEE!
Tranquility, fresh air, high altitude.

take clothes you can be okey at +10 degrees.

I recomend this place for a family , solo and couple visit.

This little church in the centre of town is angelic and beautiful.
