You're in the middle of nowhere surrounded by surreal beauty and have the opportunity to soak in thermal pools at an elevation of 4406 meters. What's not to love?
I've read some of the negative reviews complaining about the basic/dirty facilities and if you are so uptight where you cannot enjoy the rugged beauty of Bolivia without overlooking that this is a poor and developing country my suggestion is for you to stick to all-inclusive resorts with fruity umbrella drinks where there are staff to kiss your butt and fetch your towel. The lagunas route in Bolivia is remote with very basic amenities which contribute to the unique experiences of remote Bolivia.
We did a 3 day tour of the Lagunas and it was the best value of our 5 months of traveling on a motorcycle through South America and I was happy to pay the price of admission and contribute to the local economy.

And a towel! Because of the wind and weather conditions in Bolivia to leave the pools is the worst part.

This place is really magic and should not be missed. Enjoy the views while being in the water or if you happen to stay in the hostel nearby, enjoy the night sky while in the water.

We originally planned to try the hot water pool, but after arriving and seeing how crowded it was and how bad the facilities were, we decided to skip it. Toilets were dirty and disgusting, the changing room didn't look like I wanted to leave my stuff there either. The surrounding lake, Laguna Chalviri, is a nice view with the flamingos, but far less impressive than the previous lagoons.

I love hot pools, and as I live in New Zealand we have plenty. However getting in thermal water at this elevation was a real treat. I went in the afternoon and it was really quiet. We saw in the morning that there were lots of people in the pool so avoided it and went on to a Laguna Verde and on our return the pool was empty. The changing rooms were very basic but worthwhile putting up with this.

I picked the tour company my husband and I went with specifically because we did an overnight at one of the hostels at the hot springs. We arrived late, ate late and a result got to the hot springs as others were leaving. Enjoying the warm water with wine with just our group under the stars was simply unbeatable. Other than the Salar, this was the highlight of our 3d/2n tour.
I'm not sure what all the hostels at the hot springs are like, but ours was super basic - pebbled floors (seriously), no light or mirror in the toilet, no toilet paper, no heating...just be prepared.

As the title of my review suggests, this spot is really about pushing your limits! Why, you might ask, and I can break down the challenge for everyone reading this into a simple sentence- changing into your swimwear and jumping into the natural hot water pool (~30 degrees celsius) when the ambient temperature is -5 to -10 degrees celsius (depending on the time of your visit). This may not sound like a great challenge for many, but for me, this was quite possibly the craziest thing I had ever done in my life thus far. We got here at around 6:30 am. The changing rooms were located a mere 25-30 m away from the pool and both my wife and I were struggling. But, as soon as we stepped into the pool, it was blissful. The water was so calming and soothing, it is the ultimate relaxation at the end of a gruelling day. However, for us, it was one of the first things we did on our final day of our tour from Uyuni to San Pedro de Atacama. Once we were inside the pool and came back to reality we noticed the massive lagoon in front of us with flamingos in it. This was such a surreal experience, I'm not sure I had even pictured such a scene in my wildest dreams. Enjoying in a natural hot water pool at 4600 m above sea-level at 6:30 am when the ambient temperature is -5 degrees and watching flamingos in the distance, I have no more words to describe this incredible experience.
Only one thing that put me off was the filth around the pool. As I mentioned this in the review of Laguna Colorada, tourists (mostly backpackers) really need to respect nature and environment. Around the pool were beer bottles and cigarette butts and these were quite off-putting. It is incredibly hard for me to imagine what the state of this site would be in 5 years from now. It would be heart-breaking to watch this site become a mess, it is stunning and needs to be preserved for others to enjoy.
About using the change rooms, we paid whatever was asked of us (Bs. 6 per person) but noticed lots of others entering the pool without having paid.

We got there by mid morning and that day was so cold (-10C / 15F) that I didn't want to go in. The wind was blowing and it seems it was breaking my skin!
I went to touch the weather and it was warm (30C / 85F) and looking around and I thought 'when will I get the chance to do it again?'
I paid the 6 Boliviano, get my courage and bathing suit on :) and jumped in!
A great, warm 30 minutes bath!
Tips: if it's windy, leave the towel inside where you change, otherwise the wind will blow it away (or get some rocks to anchor it to the ground!)
Do not dive in, between the warm water and my ears closed from the altitude, i had ear pain and headache for an hour after the bath. Nothing happened to people who kept the head out of water
The view is magical

Wow. Almost didn't go in. There had been a lot of people in the pool and it looked a bit crowded. Then all of a sudden they disappeared and I had the pool to myself. These were the most relaxing hot springs I have ever been in (and I have covered Alaska to New Zealand). The serenity (can't beat it), the water temperature absolutely perfect and then there is the view. A magical place.
A couple of tips: take a little towel and a plastic bag for wet swimmers. Be prepared to stay for at least 30 minutes and if it is crowded then wait a while - most people seem to be in a bit of a rush. And perhaps give the mujer who does the cleaning a couple of bolivianos for new zapatos.

Hi,
Can someone tell me the name of the closest accomodation to this hot spring?
Thanks
Written June 8, 2018
Hi there,
From memory, the closest one for us was about an hour away near Laguna Colorada in Bolivia. We did the tour starting in Uyuni and ending in San Pedro so we reached this spot on the last day early in the morning.
Hope this helps.
Cheers

We are in Uyuni now. Since there is no address listed for your tour agency how can we have a conversation with someone to inquiry about the tours???

I went with Red Planet at the end of May this year. They do go to aguas terminales at night which is way better to enjoy in my opinion.
