About
Cafayate is located in an area of ancient Diaguita indigenous settlements. Its name derives from the extinct league "cacan" and means "Cajón de agua". There is another interpretation held by an anthropologist that means "Place that has everything". More than 140 members make up an outstanding group of Cafayateños artisans, who exhibit their products since 1979 in this institution, a world of shapes and colors in different designs, directly from the hands of their creators. The members express their ancestral knowledge in a direct way to the visitors, thus giving a regionalist sample that differs in breadth with the industrial works. Unique in its kind. Works are exhibited in: Fabrics, Basketry, Ceramics, regional sweets, goldsmith's, saddlery and Felt. (Tejidos, Cestería, Cerámicas, dulces regionales, orfebreria, talabartería y Fieltro).

We've been to many many markets in South America and this one is very average ... for the hygiene, selection and the prices ...

Stopped for a little bit of browsing. Lots of local pottery and small souvenirs with rustic charm. A good range of products, a little more expensive than other shops around, but also easier to find everything in one place.
