A lovely building consisting of the typical basilica construction of two side aisles and the central nave. Some lovely craftsmanship exhibited on the side aisles. The Exterior is rather straightforward as it were however the interior is quite otherwise. These temples,churches of earlier years stand in contrast to the simple structures of today. 10pics for viewing.

This church has a traditional exterior and a rather simple interior. It was a pleasant spot to sit a meditate for a few minutes.

Whilst we were in the Square area, walking around and had a bite to eat, unfortunately we could not go inside, but this is easily seen from anywhere in the square. I always wonder how these cathedrals look so clean from the outside when it has had all types of weathering over the year.

We heard Sunday mass at this church. It was full, and the parishioners were quite involved in the ceremony. The priest gave a moving and common-sense sermon. It is evident all those in attendance knew each other, and they were very welcoming to us, casual visitors.

Cafayate is a tourist town with lots of typical shops and restaurants. The square is where the action is day and night. Great stop for wine tasting and winery visits. Lots of bed and breakfasts at reasonable prices.

We visited the church to attend Sunday mass (Saturday evenings at 20:00, Sundays at 8am,10:30, and 20:00). Masses are announced by the church bells, first 1/2 hour before mass, then 15 minutes before mass, and lastly 5 minutes before mass. Church on Sunday night was packed and the locals are happy to have tourists join. Limited art to view after mass. We very much enjoyed the opportunity to share our prayers with absolutely lovely people from the region.

It´s the Cathedral, so a must see. Very simple from the architectural and decorative point of view. What impressed me were a series of didactical posters - about 14 - scattered through the church (very carefully drawn) with sayings like:
- Dar buen consejo al que lo necesita (give good advice to those who need it);
- Consolar al triste (give comfort to those who are sad);
- Visitar a los enfermos (pay a visit to those who are ill)

The interior is surprisingly bare for a Catholic Cathedral unlike the Cathedral in Salta that is richly decorated. The bells sound to call the faithful to church so beware if you are standing close by.

It was an interesting cathedral but was not particularly different to many others and in fact was not very attractive at all. Worth a visit however

This church makes a good photo back drop from the plaza- inside is typical of a Catholic church, except this one is not nearly as over the top ornate as you will see in Salta, not a bad thing, rather refreshing.
