About
Jardín de Cactus was the last intervention work César Manrique performed in Lanzarote. The artist from Lanzarote could see beyond how run down the ancient rofera was. Roferas were the quarries that raids are taken from to create a very particular home for cactaceae flowers from all over he world. Surrounded by the largest cactus plantation of the island, dedicated to crops of cochineal insect, a product of great financial relevance in Lanzarote in the 19th Century. Jardín de Cactus has around 4,500 specimens of 450 different species, of 13 different families of cactus from the five continents. The green shade of the plants stands out against the blue sky and the dark volcano creating a harmonious explosion of colour that impresses visitors. The only sounds that break the peace and quiet that prevails, are singing birds and boozing insects, enjoying their very own oasis.

- KateJRRHeaton, United Kingdom1,645 contributionsSurprisingly beautifulVisited as part of an organised trip. Wow it was really beautiful & architecturally interesting. Who knew that there was so many different types of cacti. Had a very enjoyable wander around taking photographs. There is a couple of seating areas out of the sun, plus a shop & cafe. Well worth a visit- watch out for the Cesar Manrique art in the toilets & the giant cactus sculpture outsideVisited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 15, 2023
- twoheadedgirl-pt2Leeds, United Kingdom54 contributionsStunning and diverse, incredible valueWow! What an incredibly diverse array of cacti! I’ve never seen so many different varieties of cacti, and I grew up in the Sonoran desert! It’s very reasonably priced, there is a cafe and toilets as well. Unfortunately, it was swelteringly hot and I was with my sun-sensitive British husband and stepson, so we didn’t stay for very long. It’s absolutely worth checking out though, and a must-do if you appreciate nature and ecological diversity. I do wish there were more descriptions and information on the different cacti, though. Very beautiful place.Visited October 2023Traveled with familyWritten October 18, 2023
- June ASurrey, United Kingdom2,755 contributionsA really good day out and fascinating with lots to seeI loved this place which is easy to get to by bus from Arrecife - the bus stops more or less outside. Entrance is very reasonable and although the garden is small there is so much to see - all the different shapes and types of cactus. I never knew there were so many of them. The windmill is lovely too with excellent views and the food was the cafe amazing - I had the cheese with prickly pears with some loves and bread which I really enjoyed. A really good day out.Visited February 2023Traveled soloWritten November 4, 2023
- David AnthonyBraintree, United Kingdom15 contributions"Charming Garden"This is a garden, that stands out in the barren rocky landscape that surrounds it. Once you arrive and go through the entrance you find a well appointed layout and hundreds of cactuses of all different shapes and sizes. You can climb up to the top and visit the windmill then climb down and enjoy refreshments in the restaurant /cafe. I enjoyed a wonderful iced coffee and croissant on my visit. Probably it's best to buy a ticket online first and visit when it opens at 10, we were let in first and there was plenty of parking spaces, when we arrived at 9.30.Visited November 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten November 6, 2023
- Baggio1018London, United Kingdom323 contributionsDifferent and well worth visitingWe have seen cacti before, but nothing like the concentration in this garden so for that alone, it is well worth a visit. The area is nicely landscaped so that you do have higher vantage points to get different snaps in. Get there early on to avoid crowds although we got there as the door opened and have to wait as they let a bus tour through, that is my main reason for a 4*.Visited November 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten November 12, 2023
- Rob121618West Malling, United Kingdom545 contributionsNice garden of cactusAs we were staying in the north of the island (in Costa Teguise) and we had a rental car, we decided to visit Jardin de Cactus. Very interesting and picturesque - so many different types of cactus. Wasn't too busy when we visited which meant it was quite quiet. Not too much parking if coming by car.Visited February 2024Traveled with familyWritten February 21, 2024

I went today and it is definitely worth a visit if you have a hire car. Very well presented cactus park that is much better than it sounds. - JBG1Leicester, United Kingdom821 contributionsExceeded Expectations so a nice surprise 😮We last visited these Cesar Manrique created gardens in the early 90s and although we have been back to Lanzarote a number of times never revisited Jardin de Cactus until today. The size of the existing displays of varied cactus plants together with the quality of the lay out took us a bit by surprise. We enjoyed our visit and thought it was well worth the 8 euros entrance fee. The area however is not really suitable for wheelchairs.Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 4, 2024
- rayle0nardSeattle, Washington3 contributionsMust see if you’re in LanzaroteGorgeous spot with the most amazing garden structurally, a volcanic hollow which. Has been sculpted and formed (by the world famous CesarManrique) with native rock to create a spectacle of succulent and cactus plants. Truly worth the paltry €8.00 entry fee. Lovely cafe too but the coffee, hmm - stick to the vino rosado.Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 4, 2024
- Kezzer999Bristol, United Kingdom164 contributionsWorth a visit if you are in Lanzarote.Beautiful place to visit. My friend and I got the bus from Puerto Del Carmen to Arrecife then a taxi to the cactus garden. It cost €60 both ways and the driver waited for us in the car park. €8 each entrance. Beautiful cacti and nice cafe and ambience.Visited March 2024Traveled with friendsWritten March 13, 2024

This is an amazing garden and well worth a visit. It is 6.75 euros per adult and worth every penny. The garden has an unusual layout, therefore you can walk a circular route starting up a few levels and gradually step downwards until at ground level. This makes viewing the cactus more interesting. There is als a lovely old windmill, a fantastic collection of very mature varieties of cacti. The cafe is situated up a flight of steps, again giving excellent views. Not to be missed.

Well signposted, costs 6.50€ per person, v interesting site full of cacti! Huge varieties which looked spectacular in the afternoon sun, nice little cafe on site.
Spend about 1 hr including a drink stop. Well worth a visit and we would recommend.

The only thing found in this garden is cacti. The last site designed by Cesar Manrique this is a must for those who follow his work.
Hundreds of different cactus plants from around the world have been gathered here. Some are recognisable, many are unusual and a few don’t even look like cactus.
A couple of rooms near the entrance with soft furnishings are a delight to escape the heat of the day while opposite beneath the windmill is a covered cafe with outdoor seating.

This is a garden carved out of a lava field; designed by a genius! Not a particularly large area but the multi-level circular design makes it seem to go on and on. The 2 garden sheds/sitting rooms near the entrance puts the verb "relax" into action. Great lunch and cappuchino. Highly recommend a visit. If you have time, buy the 6 sites ticket.

I have visited Lanzarote quite a few times in the past but had never visted the Cactus Garden. My wife decided that we should finally visit and I was secretly dreading it. As we started to look round though I was amazed at how much I enjoyed it. Luckily we had finished our visit before the buses came in and I would recommend getting there for opening time as it really was too busy when we left.
The cafe was really good and the prices surprisingly reasonable.
Glad we visited.

This is beautiful and definitely different! I now want a cactus garden! My daughter and I travelled there from Costa Teguise using the local buses which was an easy trip and relatively inexpensive. The bus runs infrequently so you have to keep an eye on the timetables but it gave us approx 3 hours at the Jardin which felt just about right. We found the cafe very expensive - high prices, small portions. Make sure to visit the toilets and admire the artwork.

This is an impressive collection of cacti. There is also historical value in that this was the last major work by Cesar Manrique in Lanzarote. However, there is absolutely zero information. So, unless you are already a cactus expert, you find yourself appreciating the immediate visual impact of this garden but no more. There is no further learning angle. It's one cactus after another, and after walking around for 15 minutes or so you start being pretty satiated with cacti. I think it's a missed opportunity, and at 6.50 it's hard to recommend the visit. I did not find the cafe' very good either.

located in something like a caldera, a natural vulcanic sink, this cactus garden offers a wide variety of succulents from all over the planet, including some really amazing pieces. we enjoyed our visit in the later afternoon, with sunlight slowly turning redish. there is a small coffee shop / bar inside the garden and it's just lovely to hang out there. my recommendation: go there on your own by public bus (or car, if you have to), so that you can stay as long as you feel like. tours stop here, but rush through. when you are on your own, you can just let them go and have the garden for yourself.

Only 25 minutes by car from Puerto Del Carmen the Cactus Gardens are absolutely amazing and well worth the admission price of €6.50 It is quite compact therefore not a great deal of walking involved but there are a few steps to be negotiated if you want to explore the whole area. It is a photographers dream experience you will not be disappointed. There is a cafe/restaurant on site and the prices are very reasonable. One unforgettable site and nothing to do with cactus are the signs for the toilets.

Muchas gracias

Is there a bus from Puerto Del Carmen to the Cactus Garden, please?
Written December 17, 2018
Dear Miriam,
Thanks for your interest in Jardín de Cactus. To get to the garden by bus, you will need to get to Arrecife's bus station and from there get line number 9 or 7. You can check the timetables at arrecifebus website.
We hope you enjoy the visit to the center.

Hi I have read that this place is suitable for wheelchair users and that you have an adapted wheelchair. I visited this centre today and although the layout of the area is at levels that a wheelchair is accessible however the lava paths have large cracks in them which the small wheels on the wheelchair get stuck in them and makes it very hard for my husband to push. It was clear to the person at the entrance that I was in a wheelchair and I was not offered your adapted wheelchair due to this we did not have a very good experience. Please explain why I was not offered this service thanks

Estimado Javier,
