There are a lot of items in the museum. It could be improved by taking away the less interesting items and to focus on those who are more interesting and present these on more modern way. Anyway if you are in Luderlitz and interested in it history, nature, culture and mining visiting the musuem is highly recommended.

Very small museum, aimed at German speakers (most placards are in German). Some natural history items (shells, birds). Some artifacts from Namibian people groups (San ostrich egg canteens).

Actual history is rather thin, limited to very faded photographs. There is nothing at all about Shark Island or the concentration camp there, which is definitely an oversight, whether intentionally sanitizing or not.

This museum is not to be missed, each will take their own view but it is a quintessential part of the Luderitz experience.....

It is only open from 3.30 to 5 in the afternoons but is definitely worth a visit. It is an amazingly eclectic mixture of old photos, relics, stuffed wildlife and everything in between and gives a wonderful picture of this fascinating and unique town.

The museum contains very interesting artefacts, such as the original cross that Bartholomew Diaz erected at the Lighthouse, Diaz Cross location outside Luderitz. There is a new marble cross now, and the original one is preserved here. It also contains the history of how the town was founded and built up over the years.

What I like about this museum is the love and care how artifacts and all other things are kept and disposed from people that is done voluntarily. I visit it already 30 years ago from Germany and the same love and care it shows today. Hopefully when it will be moved to the old PowerStation, it should be looked after it like in the past.
A must to see for history interested tourists

This museum is only open between 15.30 and 17.00 weekdays and costs N$15 to enter. 30 minutes is ample time. The museum was opened in the 60's and it does not look as though anything has been done to it since. Everything is covered in dust, many of the photos are very faded and need to be reprocessed. Most of the signs are in German which is not much use to non-German speakers. There are some interesting bits but they take a lot of finding.

no enthusiasm whatsoever when entering the museum, more interested in doing the crosswords - surely they can do better to welcome visitors

Oh dear, this place hasnt been updated in about 40 years! The lady manning the desk was smoking and the whole place is tired and dull. Worth popping in but you dont need more than 10 minutes!

I don't think this place has seen any new energy since it's opening in the mid 1970's
Displays are historically accurate and that's about it. As dusty and boring as the lady taking your money at the door.
