Well maintained trails really help the trek through the forest to see the creatures.
Lemur of course are the stars but do not overlook the other critters. Frogs, insects, chameleon and even a snake.
Three hours just about wore me out but so worth it.
Do not miss this one.

We visited this communities park three times, once at night, once in the morning, and once in the afternoon, and it delivered amazing safari experiences! We saw many different types of lemurs, chameleons, and frogs. We heard indri singing, saw camouflaged chameleons and the smallest chameleon. It is very close to Mantadia Forest Lodge, where we stayed, so we managed to pop in for a couple of hours walk on travel days. Thierry, our guide, was very knowledgeable and speaks excellent English. The park also has a very nice shop. All fees directly benefit the local community, so it felt like responsible tourism as well.

After visiting the Andasibe national park we spent the afternoon in this smaller community run reserve. The entry fee supports the local villagers, that also educate guides and have small reforestation projects in the area.
The visit was interesting both because of the guide (Honore) who spoke english quite well and therefore was able to explain the history of the site and the animals.
Though covering a small area, we saw indris, Parsons Chameleon, Tenrecs,Drongo, an own and common brown lemurs.

We walked up and down the trail in darkness with just our guide's torch, Maybe we came the wrong season, we didn't see any lemurs, fossa (?) or any animals. We saw a baby elephant-ear chameleon. The trip has to end shortly because our guide was stung by something on the wooden-rail and was in pain. Something I was worried it might happen to us when we went on a night tour.

I really enjoyed my night walk (the forest one ) and my day time walk. On the day walks, we saw brown lemurs and the indri indri up close. We saw a parson's chameleon and several leaf tailed geckos. On the night walk, we saw a small species of chameleon, leaf tailed chameleon, nocturnal lemur (I can't remember the name) and a mouse lemur.

We visited this park twice, once for a night (well evening as it was dark around 6 pm) hike and once in the morning. Both times we spotted (well more precisely, our guide) several different types of lemur. The guide was also patient enough, as a result we saw the mouse, sport lemur (both at night), and diadem sifaka and the Indri (during the day hike) from very nearby. The guide we had was excellent. A real advantage is that the night hike is in the park, not along the road as is the case for all the national parks.

This community reserve was set up about ten years ago both to promote environmental protection and also to provide local community with jobs. The advantage is that you are virtually guaranteed to see Madagascar´s largest lemur, Indri Indri. This animal is not only fascinating to watch but also to listen too. Guides have tapes of their extraordinary "language" to which they respond "live". It is quite a spectacle.
There is also a sacred tree the only one of its kind in Madagascar which has become a place of pilgrimage to devoted people who asked a wish, and got it granted, whereupon they have to sacrifice a zebu.

We visited VOI MMA in the afternoon after visiting Andasibe National Park. This park is in the same area of the national park but is run by the local community. The park has less tourist so is a very quiet place to spot wildlife. We saw different types of lemurs, chamaleons and geckos.
We would recommend to anyone in the area to visit this park. It just takes a couple of hours and is much less crowded than the national park.

We hiked the well-kept trails and enjoyed seeing (and hearing) several species of lemur. Visitors must be guided. Binoculars and telephoto lenses are essential.

How do tourists get from Tana to VOIMMA and how much does the transport cost? There will be 3 or 4 of us travelling together.

You can rent a car or hire a driver to take you to VOIMMA from Tana. The road distance may be 140-150KM but it may take you 4-5 hours since the road is winding and narrow at times. I heard there is train ride you can take but it takes way too long. We went there with our guide who drove us there. Sorry, couldn't have been more helpful but I would recommend staying at Mantadia Lodge. BTW, if you do stay at the Mantadia Lodge, you may want to ask the lodge about the transportation from Tana. They maybe able to give you more pertinent information.
