Traveled with familyWritten June 20, 2016

- TriniSuperBoyJamaica51 contributionsWonderful Religious/Spiritual AttractionThis is a wonderful place. You can buy flowers for the virgin and offer it. You can light candles. There are a lot of people selling souvenirs for the church. There is a food court nearly, on the compound. The empanadas, cachatas etc are really nice and the food area is clean.Traveled with familyWritten September 1, 2014

One of Venezuela's top religious spots. You can buy flowers to leave to the virgin. In November in the anniversary of the Virgen del Valle there's a beautiful celebration with fireworks and religious singin.

It shows the culture of the "margariteños" or people from Margarita Island. .The place is super full of people. You will find many places to buy souveniers and little statues of the virgin.
When you go into the church it self, make sure you are dressed propperly, otherwise people might fell ofended.
Its a very hot place to go, so i encourage you to wear something confortable and at the same time suitable for church.

The Virgen del Valle is probably the most worshipped patron of Venezuela. She is especially important in the eastern part of Venezuela and with all things maritime like navy, sailors, and fishermen. So almost all Venezuelans that visit Isla Margarita will visit to this church to pay tribute at least once in their lives. It can get very crowded, especially on weekends and national holidays. But to be honest, for foreigners there is not much reason to visit this place, because the church and surroundings are not very attractive from a historic or architectural point of view.

We visited the Church while on a historic tour around the island August 2018...the church and surroundings are well maintained ..the interior was so beautiful..with stained colourful windows , images of Mary,Jesus the cross and other `holy` images gave you such a peaceful serene feeling...encouraged you to stop and reflect /pray...on the outside were handicraft/jewelry vendors with such beautiful well made items ...made you feel like choosing all...would like to visit again soon.

Beautiful, well maintained, historic place of worship.
Please place this on your "To Do" list for Margarita. The church is really grand and a site to behold. The museum is well worth the visit.
Please respect the "No Photos" in the treasure room!

Basilica Virgen del Valle is a gothic church located in El Valle del Espíritu Santo town in Margarita Island. The architecture of this sumptuous building is a gem :) This is a mandatory stop to all those catholics who are visiting Margarita. Outside the church, you can find plenty of stalls where locals are selling religious crafts! Its a safe place and there is plenty of security in the surrounding areas.

It's a good visit to make if you want to understand a little more about the devotion that most Venezuelan people have to this Virgen, the church is small and cozy, in the outside you can find a lot of souvenirs

I'm from Margarita but I'm living in US and I must say, if you visit the island, you must visit "La Virgen del Valle", so you can feel a very important part of the traditions in Venezuela. The faith, that the people have on the Virgin Mary is one of the most symbolic icons on Latin America. If you visit this basilica, you'll find the statue of this virgin where thousands of people use to go to pray and also in the surroundings you'll find a lot traditional objects, handcrafts and you could eat the traditional "empanadas"

"This church is beautiful. It was made in honor of La Virgen del Valle who is the protector of the Island and has many devotees. We came to know this place and it was a unique experience, find a nice place in a rural neighborhood, with many sales of typical food (empanadas y arepas) around and several craft shops. People are very friendly. It is a place where you can feel peace."
