Make sure you walk around the back. The construction of the Ahu is just as impressive and you can see the crater in the background.

If you are looking for a place to see the sunrise over the moai, this is the place. We made the mistake of going to Anakena Beach but it points more north than east. Learn from our mistake!

15 restored Moai. What more could you ask for? See it during the day (before noon, when the tour buses arrive), then go back in the early morning for an eerie sunrise.

There's nothing like coming over the hill and seeing Tongariki in the distance. It's even more spectacular standing right in front and looking right up in the sky into these stone faces. Awe-inspiring.

You come to see the 15 moai that inhabit this ahu, restored to their original site but without most of their top hats that reside on the ground nearby after the site experienced a tsunami. Don't miss the petroglyphs of turtles that are incised in...More

We were there last month (3/2015). They drive on the right side of the road. I saw a car rental place right in town but don't know what they cost. If I were you, I'd take a small group or private tour. The tour guides have... More
