These Moais stand with their back to the ocean and look direktly to Rano Raraku. I went there for sunrise, it was amazing. In 1960 a Tsunami destroyed the statues and in 1993 they started restauring them with the technicel help of Japanese engineers. One of the Moais was allowed to be shown in Japan, so it ist called the... More

Standing in front of the 15 Moai at Ahu Tongariki is one of the most amazing feelings/scenes of a lifetime. No review I give it can do it justice. Just incredible.

Absolutely astounding to stand among those moai and try to imagine life on such a remote island that led to the construction of such objects, standing majestically lined arow...lots of interesting walks around the island, guides available, unique souvenirs, some wildlife...do it ALL while there...Read Jared Diamond's Collapse before visiting the island.

The largest collection of standing moais on the island. Just the best place for a sunrise. Also, you can come back in a sunny moment to see the turquoise water behind the moais. I love dogs and I also brought with me everywhere dog food. The 3 dogs at this place especially where isolated and very hungry, I felt the... More

Try renting a vehicle and spend plenty of time here. It's mystical and beautiful. Sunrises are said to be spectacular when clear skies.

This is the spot with the 15 statues. The place is a vision of paradise. We spotted a whale here while visiting the moais.

These fifteen standing moais are some of the best on the whole island. It really worth it seeing them. Although is is relatively close to another great site (Rano Raraku), it is a bit far from the town. It is NOT within walking distance. Avoid the crowds that will definetively interfere in your photos arriving at sunrise or late afternoon.

Fifteen Moai all in a row that can be seen for miles! When exploring in Rano Raraku we could see them in the distance. when you get up close to them you will see how large they are and how different they are from one another. Truly remarkable! don't miss them
