I have visited the museum many times, but in February 2017, when we visited the island, the museum was closed. Apparently the roof needs repair. How long this would take is anyone's guess. While the museum is small the collection is nice. I especially like...More

We decided to go here on the last morning we had on Easter Island. It was raining and this is a good option for a rainy day, although we arrived about 30 minutes before it opened. Be sure to check opening hours. The highlights were:...More

Pretty surprising to get a museum closed in January during the touristic season... And most of all if these are planned repairs, it would be great to inform the hotels and the tourist office before closing the museum!

Although small, this museum is nicely done up. Takes about 30-45 mins to look and read through every display in detail. Useful information that helped us understand the island and Moai better.

Gathered in this rather small museum is the artifacts and stories of their history, geology and culture. This would be a great place to start your visit of the island. This is the only place to see an actual Ahu eye. It is free but...More

Fantastic museum, free entry, and provides a fascinating overview of Rapa Nui history. I visited the museum at the very end of my visit to the island (while waiting to go to airport) and I felt it tied in all the experiences I had while...More

To really appreciate the island, you need to visit this free , unpretentious little museum. Explanations in English and Spanish. Excellent graphics explain how the moai were created, raised, etc, etc. You can use Internet at the museum's library. Not far from the harbor and...More
