We spent a wonderful time with our gaucho Marcello in his estancia. The driver Andres is also very nice. We did 2 hours horse riding in la pampa. Marcello adapted to our lack of experience and practice and was very helpful and reassuring. We felt in security by his side.
In the meantime Andres was making a barbecue for us. The meat was excellent ! After the meal we did horse riding one more time. The whole day was just perfect!

This tour was worth every penny. We were picked up right on time at our hotel in Buenos Aires and stopped at another hotel just blocks away to pick up another couple from England. The driver was very friendly and spoke English, telling us about many things along the way. It only took about 1 1/2 hour to get there. We had been to San Antonio de Areco about 8 years ago on our own, taking a bus--about a 2 hour drive. We saw most of the town that time, as it is easy to walk around. However, we did not get the full experience and we are so glad we did it this way this time! We had a very nice local guide to go around the town named Veronica. She was wonderful. The very best part was going to Estancia El Ombu, a little outside of the town, to spend hours with the gauchos on this lovely ranch. The weather was perfect and we could have stayed for days! (Actually, they rent rooms and you could stay there.) We enjoyed the horseback ride with the gauchos around the ranch and they had a carriage for anyone who didn't feel comfortable riding a horse. The food they served on the lawn next to the horse corral was outstanding and plentiful with grilled meats of several kinds, grilled veggies, salad, fruit and dessert! They played music and danced and we enjoyed every part of it! There were only about 20 or so people there, so it seemed like you had a private experience. A real authentic experience and nice to be far away from the big city and in the beautiful, peaceful countryside.

Had a wonderful time on your with Veronica who taught me so much about the history of San Antonio de Areco. The day was topped off by an over night stay at estancia El Ombú with horse riding and a beautiful meal. Wish I could stay forever!

I've booked the tour online on their website and after taking the bus for 2 hours I received an email saying that there is no horse riding that day as it was raining the day before.
I walked to the estancia where everything was perfectly dry but turned out there were just no staff that day for horse riding.
So, as there isn't anything else do to in San Antonio really, I took the bus back to Buenos Aires.
A whole day wasted...

Hello Adam, We are really sorry to heard about the bad experience you had in San Antonio de Areco. The gauchos at the Estancia told me the same morning they couldn't receive you because of the large amount of water that fell the day before and during the night. Only the staff of the Estancia is able to judge if it is possible to ride the horse safely, for the client and for the horse itself. I phoned to another gaucho and he told me the same thing that unfortunately it was imposible to ride that day. As a small structure, we try every day to deliver the best services we can to our clients. If you come back soon to San Antonio de Areco, we would be very happy to invite you for a horse ride. Regards,

We had a full day out at the estancia..it was just fabulous. They are wonderful and very welcoming people. They have such beautiful horses...different colors and so well trained.
They welcomed us with empanadas, tour of the estancia, a carriage ride, a delicious meal...maybe too much...but ah...so delicious. Then, they had dances for us and a special gaucho showed us how he and his young horse trust each other thoroughly, had the horse do exactly what he wanted....what a beautiful day!!! Even the driver who came to pick us up was kind and gave all sorts of information on the city and he brought us right back to our hotel at the end of the day...super well organized !!

I am a very frugal and this was a splurge for me. I was on the fence for awhile and wavered on which of the "ranch" day trips to take and read the various reviews. The person who they had to pick us up from our hotel was excellent. He was very funny, amiable, and made the 2 hour trip go by quickly. There isn't too much to the town of Areco - a nice little tour by the local guide. The ranch and the people who worked there were very nice. The food is fantastic and plentiful. So was it worth the price? Still on the fence...

We chose this company for a private day tour of San Antonio de Areco and lunch at an estancia. Our guide knew exactly where to go and what to see, including where to buy wine, cheese, and salumi. The estancia, El Ombu, is a large ranch which farms cattle, soybeans, and corn. We had the best empanadas and red wine on arrival, and then, after a horseback or carriage ride, an asado lunch. The lunch consisted of mountains of grilled beef, chicken, and sausages plus various salads, all delicious. The highlights were: a song performance by Oscar Pereyra, a well-known gaucho singer now in his 80s, and a demonstration of what we would call "horse whispering," where a gaucho demonstrates development of a trusting horse through gentleness. If you can't stay at an estancia in Argentina, at least take a day trip!

We had an extra day in Buenos Aires, so decided to see some of the countryside instead of the usual city spots. Our tour to San Antonio de Areco was great! We had a visit to the small town to start and then a visit to a nearby estancia. The gaucho demonstration was fascinating, the horse ride was fun, the asado meal was great, and the horse-riding skills of the gauchos was impressive. Highly recommended.

Our day in San Antonio de Areco and at the estancia was our favorite day of our entire two-week trip.

The drive was very comfortable and well worth the time. Julietta was an excellent guide and you could tell that she has very strong relationships with the family and Gaucos at El Ombu.

We learned so much about the full Gaucho culture, had a wonderful meal, and thoroughly enjoyed this day.

Thank you!
