when you visit San Antonio de Areco go to the Municipalidad, walk in and look at the patio, the columns, very simple, very good proportion, and look down at the floor. Just a look, do not stay there or expect any long explanation, you have the church near by and the museum Draghi , all very close, walking distance.

We only entered as far as the central patio. I don't know if there are guided tours. But it's really worth it. Typical period house. Central patio with the rooms that overlook that space. Cistern. Galleries. Beautiful.

Dead and unwelcoming

We are a horse riding couple. We loved the idea of a small gaucho town and a night or two on a horse riding farm / estancia. We took the bus from BA. The town was clearly once lovely with cute streets and pretty buildings. However, its now dilapidated and run down with dog turd piles on the pavements and large stray dogs everywhere. You can walk around town in 1hr and have a coffee. Then you're done. We visited both cafe's on the square. El Mitro was lovely. El Tokio had the rudest most unwelcoming staff. We left feeling that they actively disliked tourists! We booked horse riding with Martin Tatta. He never showed up. Several days before, we had booked accommodation at Raucho Eco Guesthouse. They dropped us at 1pm after we wondered around town for several hours waiting for them to pick us up. The lady at the tourism office on the square was friendly but useless. She closed for siesta before helping us find an alternative place to stay for the night. So we got an early bus back to BA wishing we hadn't left Bariloche 2 days early just to endure disappointment.

Boring dead little town. Unfriendly people. Littered with street dogs. Useless tourist info. Let down by 2 horse trail offerings.
