The experience starts when the passengers arrive to our headquarters located in El Chalten. Visitors are given the necessary rafting equipment. The first 4 Km have calm and quiet water with the Fitz Roy at your back. Afterwards, we go over a deep ravine where we are able to enjoy a series of rapids for 8 Km. The speed ok the river keeps you alert up to the last 2 Km where we return to calm water. The experience was fantastic from the very beginning. From the suits to the rafting per se, which was terrific and of pure adrenaline rush! Jordi, the guide, was awesome at explaining not only about the sport but also about the geography and geology of El Chaltén. This is a must for those seeking something different to the typical treks in town. Would do it a thousand times.

We did the standard rafting tour with Rafting El Chalten and had a great time! Got a good adrenaline rush, but felt 100% safe all the time – exactly what you're looking for when you go rafting. The staff was very experienced and professional, equipment top notch, views awesome and we saw even some condors. I'd recommend doing this activity if you make it to El Chalten.

We were told to arrive at 3pm, we began to immediately suit up. You are given a thermal long-John layer over you undergarments, then you put on your dry suit that includes booties and neoprene gloves. Your are now outfitted for cold, glacier fed water! The sun was shining as we walked two blocks to the river and our boat. We had two safety kayaks supporting us and 4 passengers (the engine) and the guide (driving the boat). We had two Spanish speakers and 2 English speakers and the guide easily moved between us engaging the full group. The first several km’s of the river are very docile and allow everyone to get their bearings. The first set of rapids are probably a cat 3/4 and are the roughest of the bunch. Thereafter we probably had a bunch of 3s and some 2s. No question, if the water was higher, the intensity would have been greater. While the rapids weren’t overly tough they were engaging as was the guide. In addition, the scenery is absolutely spectacular. We have rafted in Nairobi, Chile, Buenos Aires, Norway and now Argentina and this has to be one of the most picturesque. So there is some value to not having to always worry about what is coming at the boat. Toward the end of the trip, we were able to dunk ourselves and do some floating in the dry suits. An indication of the quality equipment, while I felt the cold river, I was not wet, when we got back to the shop. Highly recommend this as a morning or afternoon experience while staying in El Chalten, in between big hikes.
