Magnificent views from the top
Mar 2020
To me, the 2 best hikes in ElCh are this one + Cerro Fitz Roy. CFR wins by a hair due to its variety of views and experiences, but this one has stunning views at the top, into the dramatic, glaciated valley between Cerro Torre and C. Fitz Roy/Chalten - if weather permits!
Well worth the medium difficulty, steadily climbing hike (I'm 72, but hike weekly) - and it's all downhill in the afternoon :-)
Do check if you can see the peaks from the town. If it's cloudy and windy, it's not worth the effort, as it can be really blustery on the ridge...

Uphill but worth it
Mar 2020 • Couples
We had come to El Chalten to do Laguna de los tres and laguna Torre hikes, but were fortunate with weather and were able to also do this. We were so glad we did, amazing views from the top! And so much quieter than the other hikes (often needed to stop regularly on the other 2 to let people past). This hike does involve a climb but it is not too steep until the very end up from the mirador, but this is definitely worth the effort. There are good views on the way back too.

If you are struggling to choose which walk to do, this would be our ranking:
1. Laguna de los tres, busy but most varied with excellent views of Fitz Roy. Some climbing but nothing too bad.
2. Loma del pliege tumbado, much quieter and one of the best views we have ever seen. However, only do this on a clear day otherwise pointless (check windguru website for accurate forecast)
3. Laguna Torre, glacier at end is very impressive but walk is quite busy and in our opinion most of it is quite dull relative to the others. If going to Perito Moreno glacier you maybe can give this a miss. Walk is mostly flat.

Hope that helps

360 degree view of all the peaks
Dec 2019
We waited for clear day for this hike based on the other TA reviews and the wait was well worth it. The hike itself is easy when compare to Fitz Roy or Cerro Torre because it gradual up hill (expect when you are inside forest and second viewpoint). When we were at first summit, the wind was super crazy, making hike hard. Since wind was crazy we didn't go second mirador. It was clear day so can't complain :). It was cold!!!.

This is the best view among all the hikes, I would recommend this if you have extra days and clear day to make it worth your time.

Beautiful but tough hike
Jan 2020 • Solo
This was probably the toughest of the three hikes I did in El Chalten, especially because it is mainly exposed to the wind (even on a sunny day) and because the trail to get to the top is all uphill. However, once you get there the view is majestic and even on the way you get beautiful spots. In total it was around 24 km. Don’t miss it!!

Windy hike
Nov 2019
The hardest hike you can do from El Chalten. only to be recommended if the weather is good, because then you have a mega outlook on the cerro torre and fitz roy.

Nice day out
Nov 2018
Unfortuneately the visibility was poor this day, so after we arrived on the Plateau with vieuw to Lago Viedma and went a few steps on to the accent towards the Loma del Pliegue Tombado we returned to El Chaltén. The walk was nice though, great vieuws along the way, and a variation in vegetation and landscape. We enjoyed it, as we did enjoy every single moment in El Chaltén!

Cold, windy, snowy and sunny
Nov 2018 • Couples
This hike was an experience! Wow! We started out with great weather conditions - lots of sun. After walking 1 hour (up and only up) it started to be super windy and we had to put on another layer. Then it started to snow... like really snow. Before we reached the top we walked in 20 cm of snow. Reaching the top was just amazing - after 3 hours of only going up. Up and only up. We didn’t have clear skies but it was still pretty damn amazing!

This is a must-do in El Chaltén, nice views and a fun exercise to get to the mirador. Already worths to get to the mirador, it has an amazing view, but going to the top of the hill is very satisfying but difficult.

The best hike in El Chalten
Nov 2017 • Solo
Did this in November 2017.

In my opinion, this trek is way better than Fitz Roy and Laguna Torre. It is easier to hike and you get a view of both Fitz Roy & Cerro Torre on a clear day.

Trail isn’t as crowded as the other two, making it more enjoyable too.

I went there for sunrise and enjoyed the view all to my own. I have to say the trek up in the dark is not an easy one (pitch dark, really really windy and cold) and once you’re out of the forest it is tough to spot the markers (I got lost). A huge gamble but worth it for me :)

best hike of my life
Mar 2018 • Couples
long and tough day hike but very doable if you are in good shape and well prepared. 20km roundtrip with 3km of elevation. unbelievable views from the summit. the last summit push is tough and very steep. trekking poles recommended if you have them. we left the info center at 8am and came back around 3pm with ample stops for snacks, lunch and photos.
