About
Ghalat a village where due to its buildings has a long back in history is a village which is located almost 20 km from Shiraz . The village is a mixture of gardens and some houses which are mostly built with roughly shaped stones plus mortar. The village enjoys in its vicinity an eye-catching waterfall. The colorful fruit trees of the region have made the place an amazing destination for all the seasons. Recently, some coffeehouses and fast foods has been established there for the convenience of the visitors. There are so many springs and rivers and have so many camping places like Paye Chenar, Shabshotori, Cheshme Aghaei, Gerdoshahri,……On the top of each fall there is a very beautiful small woodland. Technical climbing is needed to climb and it’s specially good for cliff hangers, but some easy ways allow access. Some parts like Koljoni near Goreye Siyah fall need technical experience to climb. There is an ancient castle called Gezel Arsalan castle on the peak. Archaeologists can go there and search about its civilization. Ghalat village is an ancient village with 2500 years of history. Its houses are like stair way steps, so that the roof of one house is the yard of another. Another extraordinary thing is that village has ancient sewerage system from old era which is remained up to now. Passageways there in the village all covered by stone. The village has an ancient church is called glory of Christ which is surrounded by charming gardens. Ghalat people resisted Mongol attacks in 1732 and because of that, King Nader of that time exempted Ghalat people from paying tax.

This beautiful place is near Shiraz (20 km), names Qalat. It's an ancient village with the mixture of gardens and many cozy old houses... Qalat is an amazing destination for all the seasons due to its fruit trees... There are many entertainments here: hiking, mountain climbing on the green valleys, discovering its waterfall... or just sit in a Cafe or restaurant have coffee or a delicious food maybe...

We stayed in Ghalat for 3 nights and it was excellent. On the internet we found the tourguide Afshar Jokar who arraged a private appartment for us at a very good price. Located in the center of the old village the privately run appartment was a great place to stay, with roof top terrasse and a chimney in the living room! Ghalat itself is worth a visit with its ancient buildings and the charme of ancient times- on the weekend Ghalat is crowded with young Shirazian people enjoying the nature and the relaxed atmosphere. THE highlight was a moutaintour with Afshar, who really is a professional in the moutains. He safely leaded us to the top of a waterfall, where we were completely on our own, had BBQ and tea and showed us which of the plants around were eatable! The nature in Ghalat mountains is very beautiful and it was a lovely contrast to the pulsating shiraz-life! Ghalat also is a perfect base for visiting Persepolis (takes about 60min by car) as well as Shiraz (30 min by bus). To get to Shiraz you can easily take the bus to the city center and get a taxi there to continue your journey. All in all Ghalat was a perfect visit and we really recommend to go there! Take your time to go to the mountains- it is absolutely worth it. You can contact our tourguide (and new friend) Afshar Jokar via afshar.j@gmail.com or info@visitghalat.com, its worth checking out!

Qalat village is located 34 km from Shiraz. This village offers incredible landscapes as well as the Glory of Christ Church which was built between the two world wars and a public bath believed by local elders to have been graced by the renowned poet Sa'adi (1210-1290).
Thirty-six kilometers northwest of Shiraz lies one of the most ancient villages in Iran. Qalat is a village situated amidst an array of natural oddities. These include springs with reviving waters, cascades streaming in dense forests and mountains in the shape of mythological giants. The locals who speak an ancient dialect of Persian live on farming, animal husbandry and handicrafts. The village is built on a foothill and boasts an extraordinary architecture with peculiar high vaults and beautiful mud and brick houses. Ruins of a church dating back to the first world war, an ancient fort and a mill are the other attractions of the village. The village has a festive ambiance around it specially during the harvest season when they wear traditional clothes and sing.

This village is located near Shiraz and if time allows it is a very good place to spend half a day for lunch. Make sure you try the restaurant " Grandma's cottage" or as it is said in Persia "Kolbeyeh Maadarbozorg". Booking required!

This ancient quaint village is a short distance from Shiraz and can easily be accessed by taxis and buses. It is located at the bottom of mountain where water from two small falls make for a nice sight, cool temperatures and fresh air. The sand peopled rock formations are easy to climb but you have to be cautious and careful. The old city, it's ruins or what in any case remains of it, reminds one of small towns in Tuscan hills in Italy. The ruins of an Anglican Church from before the revolution placed along the river can still be seen. Due to its popularity, Qalat has many coffee shops and a few restaurants. Try to get there early and spend a whole day exploring this beautiful little town. You will not be disappointed.

this is a nice little village near Shiraz, just like abyane near Kashan. with a nice river and mountain. its better to go at the weekend which locals are also there to see some part of hobbies in Iran. you need to take a taxi and you can take a bus to return to Shiraz but be careful and ask the locals when the bus moves. it usually moves every hour. the village is beautiful and it has the best fresh ice cream ever. if you walk to the mountain you will find a little waterfall too. the best option us to go there with some locals in order to manage the time and not to miss the bus
