- Linda PMassachusetts533 contributionsWords do not do this beach justice! If it was 80 degrees and sunny, I would never know I was in Scotland in the Outer Hebrides. What an amazingly gorgeous beach. The sand is in its purest form and the water as blue as can be. The fact there were not many people there when we went made for such a dramatic sight. We walked and walked just admiring how clean and beautiful the beach is. We did a hardy soul take a dip in the water, he was a local of course. Very impressed we were. If you are there on a nice sunny warm day, I would highly recommend just chilling out for as much time as you can, something about a gorgeous beach hits just right.Visited September 2024Traveled with familyWritten September 25, 2024
- Maria M5 contributionsWe stayed next to the beach on a designated motorhome parking place (£5 to pay overnight - proceeds go to West Harris community Trust). It felt great to be supporting the local community. We ate at the local Tala Na Mara (brilliant).Visited April 2024Traveled with friendsWritten April 25, 2024
- 456alanfPotters Bar, United Kingdom172 contributionsLuskentyre beach is the most stunning beach I have ever visited, which is saying something, as I am in my seventieth year. When I first saw it my breath was literally taken away. It has beautiful sand and is never crowded. The sea is crystal clear and there are views across to Taransay.Visited June 2024Traveled soloWritten December 11, 2024
- Tour0192423818717 contributionsThe most amazing beach and scenery, definitely worth a visit! Not a huge amount of parking so I would suggest getting there early to get a spot. We arrived around 1pm on a nice day and probably got the last spot!Visited August 2024Traveled with familyWritten August 6, 2024

What visitors are not being told is that the only parking available was actually intended for legitimate cemetery users. Part of the unique culture of the islands demands peace and respect around cemeteries. Shamefully, tourists are not even being told that there is a cemetery adjacent to the beach, now the disrespectful behaviour of tourists is upsetting bereaved locals. Luskentyre is beautiful but it has a deeply held meaning for islanders as their families final resting place. The cemetery car park is not for beach users to abuse as a camp site, to hold barbecues and gatherings, a changing area (have some dignity) and the fence is not for drying clothes on. It is a place for quiet contemplation and if you can't behave with decency and dignity then stay away.

An amazing beach with sensational sand and turquoise sea. Quite a long drive with single track roads but well worth the effort. However parking at the official site is very limited especially if the weather is great. A helpful warden was there. We couldn’t park our Campervan so left and parked alongside a beautiful cemetery. There was a path down to the beach. An amazing vista, which was great for walking our dogs. Great photo opportunity too.

We had read about this beach and were also recommended it by our hotel. Unfortunately we visited on a day of pouring rain but even so we could see what a beautiful beach it is. Just a word of warning which we were given by local people. Access to the beach is by a very narrow single track road with some passing places. At the end is a very small car park. We did not have a problem getting there or parking due to the weather but we could see that on a sunny day access would be very difficult with cars and camper vans all trying to negotiate the single track road and inadequate passing spaces. Be warned!

On a par with the beaches in the Whitsundays, Australia. It is quite a long drive to the car park at the end of the road but well worth it for the stunning scenery. We visited on a sunny day in mid September and the car park was full so glad we did not attempt this in mid summer.

We made a diversion to stop here on our drive from Stornoway to Tarbert ferry. Most of the road for the 8 miles south of Tarbert is pretty good with a few sections narrowing down to one lane. The last 3 miles are really tough with a very narrow lane with sudden turns and blind hills and oncoming cars. We finally made it to the 3/4 mile long nice sand beach with expansive views over the sandy bay at low tide, then fought the 3 mile lane and the traffic back to the main highway. I can't imagine coming here in the busy summer season.

Add us to the list of impressed visitors. We spent a couple hours here on a stunningly beautiful day; mixed sun and dramatic clouds over the gradient of blue extending from the white sand shoreline. Not many others were there at the moment, so we had long stretches of beach to stroll along all by ourselves. Between the white sand, the blue water, the green grass covered dunes, and the dark distant mountains, we had a moment where we felt beyond the beach. No wonder that one source rated it as one of the top beaches in the world.

Visited a good few times while staying in Tarbert for a week. The weather was poor the whole week but it did not detract from the beauty of this beach. We hardly saw another person every time we visited. We got lots of fabulous photos of it. It was perfection. So clean and white with lots of little shells dotted about.

We were here on the Isle of Harris & Lewis in June, on a very wet and windy day. We still made the drive hoping the weather would clear, it did for just a little while. Rain or shine this beach is definitely worth the time!!
I was actually very surprised how clear and light blue the water was, every bit as beautiful as a caribbean beach. The sand was just as white too!! I can only imagine how crystal blue this water would be on a sunny day.
I hope to return one day to this gorgeous place!!

What a stunning place. It’s a long narrow road up to the parking and I’ve been told in the summer it gets really busy so give yourself time. I went in March and it was quiet.
The beech is just beautiful. Long golden sand beaches with blue green seas. You could be anywhere in the world.
The first time I went it was blowing a gale and the sand wip was bad but the waves crashing in where a marvel to watch.
I couldn’t recommend it enough.

Absolutely gorgeous beach! Stretches for miles and the sand is soft and white. Like something from a movie.
There were lots of jellyfish when we were there, and also a lot of midges until the sun broke through.
Follow the signs from the main road which take you up to the car park. The parking area is quite small, and people were waiting for spaces when we left! The toilets were still shut because of the pandemic when we were there.
Well worth a visit if in Lewis or Harris.

Where can I camp at Luskentyre ?Do I need to pay ? Is there a campsite nearby? Can anyone help as it all seems a bit vague . Two people with dog car and tent .
Thanks

There are a couple of spots on the single track road to Luskentyre which have an honesty box - you'll see them. But it depends who gets there first!
There is a campsite about 5 mins or so drive away at Horgabost/Nisabost but check with Talla na Mara Community Centre re whether they are open. They weren't when we were there in July but that may have changed.Talla na Mara may also advise on other sites nearby.

Where are there serviced lots for a motor home and can you recommend a 5 day route with sites to cover Harris & Lewis.
Written May 15, 2018
Sorry for the delay in replying. I can not recommend any service lots as our holiday had a base where we travelled around each day! In 5 days however you will be able to cover much of Harris and Lewis! I hope you have an amazing trip!

I'm looking to visit Luskentyre Beach again but will be bringing a caravan this time. Are there any campsites with electric hook up nearby?
Written April 23, 2018
There have been several overnight campervan pitches built in fantastic locations, there are a couple on the Luskentyre road and some more overlooking Huishnish. Unfortunately I didn't notice electric hook ups but then again I wasn't looking but hope this helps.

Think a car is a must or bike ifyou are fit! saw many cyclists do the Hebridean way. not sure about buses but do a search on google for harris bus tours. did see a few bus tours at many points.😀

Where can you stay nearby....all I found was all the way up in Stornaway...and everything I read said to stay away from Stornway..its the least prettiest place on the Isles.

Yes its probably true that the town isn't the most charismatic on the island but only because the rest is so scenic and Stornoway is the main port.
