The city is an attractive place to see. My main challenge was finding something to do in the town other than finding somewhere to eat. Because of its location, a lot of outdoor end up there and so the restaurants are generally unavailable unless you have a reservation. On the first evening there, we ended up at the fish and chips near the ferry.
As for things to do, the only thing we find that did not involve eating or drinking was network of hiking trails above the town. Well worth the effort.

Ullapool Hill is a great invigorating hike. Luckily for us we could walk from our B&B to the entrance. Great views along the way with benches at certain points if you needed a rest. I think we ended up taking the long way up which was fine we wanted the exercise. Once at the top, wow the views were amazing!!! But the wind is insane, be prepared and don't wear any hat that you care to lose. It was a biting wind so bring gloves and scarves. We stayed up top for a short time, if it wasn't so windy and cold we would have hung out there longer. We came down the shorter way than we did coming up. A great hike to get the blood flowing and views to boot.

A delightful hike! You’ll get a decent workout on the way up and the views are worth it! It’s about 20ish minutes up to the top. If you can’t find the trailhead, get Google to take you to Highland Stoneware. Pass it on your right and head into the Broom Court flats… you’ll see a little fence w an arrow pointing up that says Public FootPath. That’s it! Wear sturdy boots or sneakers. It’s lovely to take some time at the top just to breathe in the fresh air and take in the view. We went on a rainy day and it was simply heavenly.

I was only visiting Ullapool for 1 day but this was worth doing.Leaving the tourist information office at end of street turn left and walk until you reach an electricity sub station. The footpath is on your right. Its quite easy to start with but gets progressively steeper and the footing is much harder.Take your time, particularly if it is raining.
Good waterproofs and suitable footwear are essential..The views from the top are spectaular. You can see down to the harbour and ferry terminal and all along the loch to the small Islands. It kept me fit,if not young and beautiful and im really glad I did it,!

Easy path and not really difficult. On a lovely weather and nice view, watching a big ferry leaving a port. There’s no car park opposite the hike entrance. There’s a car park down corner very short walk at health centre which close at weekend.

Walking distance from the centre of Ullapool, views across the sea and inland, absolutely fabulous. It's quite a climb and not a hill in my mind. There are well defined paths but a good level of fitness is required to reach the summit. Some areas are loose underfoot.

We set off from Ullapool up the path that leads from the road near to the school (signposted Ullapool Hill). One engages in a steady climb upwards along a clearly defined and easy to follow footpath. As you ascend you have absolutely spectacular views down over the town, the ferry terminal and the Minch. There are various routes one can follow once at a certain elevation. We chose to follow the white path signs that lead across the hillside then descend through woodland to the Braes. From there you can follow the road back into town. Once again you get spectacular views over loch Broom. The whole walk is wonderful and offers great opportunities for photography and observing nature. It is a fairly long climb but can be achieved easily by those with moderate levels of fitness. Appropriate footwear is essential. We did the walk after several days of rain and the ground was very muddy and boggy in places but perfectly passable with waterproof walking shoes. It took around 2 hours to complete including stops to take photos.

This climb is worth the time and effort. Start from town for the longer walk or drive up partway via a road on the southern exit from town locals or the travel info place will help or give you the map. This second option probably saves you an hour, but it is still a good work-out to the top. Views are great

We loved doing this walk once again which we hadn't done for a good while. The ground was very muddy so good, waterproof shoes are essential. Most of the climb is easy but the last bit is rough and quite steep. The views are well worth the effort - spectacular views looking down over the village and the sea

Easy to access from Ullapool town centre via a signed pathway near the High School. Leisurely stroll up to a viewpoint that shows off Ullapool's landscape and surroundings, dominated by mountains, sea and Loch Broom. Easy walk and well worth it for the perspective
