We stopped here on an excursion on the island. It’s a fun, fast paced place to watch the planes landing overhead. We had a burger and fries which were good. Our only complaint about Sunset is that they CHARGE you $1 to use the bathroom! Unreal! Also our driver had asked us to wash off our feet before we came back to his van and said that there’s a spot to clean your feet. We thought it would be a shower or tap. No, it a cess pool of water, with taps that don’t work to clean it, where people put their feet in to “clean” them off. We did not! It’s unfortunate that with all the people flocking there to see the planes, they don’t have better facilities. I would have rather peed for free and pay $1 for a shower.

We have been here on every trip to Sint Marteen. We wanted to try Tortuga Maho but could not find parking and ended up back at Sunset. It is still very quiet, so had our pick of a table, not what we experienced. The food is not as good as it used to be and it is a bit more expensive but the location makes up for that. Ordered a bucket of beer 6 for the price of 5 ($20). It took quite a while for the bucket to arrive. There was very little ice in the bucket, after taking out 2 the remaining bottles were in ice less than 1/2 way. The 2nd one started to warm, the last beers were barely in ice 1/3 up, our server was running around taking care of most tables so we ended up going to the bar to get additional ice. The server saw us getting more ice and later came over and apologized up and down. They need more servers to be able to allow them to provide better service. We ordered a cheeseburger ($17) and grilled Mahi ($22). The burger was decent, the Mahi was over cooked, dry but was a nice sized filet. Still a great afternoon overall. Go for location, not food.

Four of us were here and we all had burger meal, chicken meal tuna salads cold drinks we all cleared our plates top food and ata reasonable price. There were a couple of guys playing tunes and games at front a seemed to be having a great time. You also have a good view of the planes coming in and there is a time table of the arrivals

Sunset Grill in St. Maarten is toted as a must see to travelers going to this beautiful destination. Over the years ( prior to the Irma), the grounds have been beautified, with a mini pool, large kitchen and modern look. But it comes at an expense of course. On our recent visit to the attraction, there were a handful of people waiting to for an inbound or out going flight in which to experience the power of these airplanes. Not the usual crowd.
The biggest complaint was the service at the bar. We sat for 15 minutes at a dirty table waiting for service. (It wasn't packed by any means). I had to pee so I went to the facilities but was halted by a young girl telling me I had to pay a dollar. Having no change, she refused me entry. She said if I was ordering from the menue or drinks, they would deduct the fee of a dollar from my bill. But I had no cash on me. When speaking to the manager he said its beca5people sit there and wait for their flights to arrive as they have no where to wait. So everyone is painted the same. This,to me, is nickle and diming an already very expensive trip. Not to mention the poor service. Too bad. It was a favorite spot for us when we frequently travel to the Dutch side of the island.

I have been going to Sunset for decades and I’ve watched it decline from its hey day to what it is now: pathetic. I’m unsure of the ownership or management history but somewhere along the way they decided to destroy the place. They used to have speakers along the railing with the tower frequency broadcasting live. It was great to hear the pilots in the know give a shout out to the patrons and wave. That’s gone. They used to have great service - Gone. Good food - Gone. Nice people working there - Gone. Skip this place and head to the other side of the beach to Driftwood. It’s excellent! Excellent service, excellent food, excellent vibe and excellent people. To top it off the beers are $1 cheaper and the same view of the planes coming in. Sorry Sunset, for these reasons; I’m out. Driftwood is my spot now.

The restaurant sits near the end of the famous Sint Maarten airport runway where planes are very low during landing. We always stop there instead of spending countless hours at the airport for a later flight. The food quality id good and there is a wide selection of drinks and food. There is a small gift shop and a cigar store. Restroom use costs $1 however. The chair are metal and the tables are like picnic table wood. Parking can be a problem if you are driving.

We visited Sunset Bar a couple years ago and boy has it changed. It used to be a cute little kept up bar and now it’s massive, choppy and seemingly not very well maintained. We sat at a table for about 15 minutes without any servers coming our way so decided to go to the bar to order on our own. If it weren’t for Virginae, this would’ve been one star. She was great and the pina coladas are still on point!
Also if you follow their Instagram, everyday does not look like that because it was dead and they were posting crazy crowd videos and pictures.
Is it the off season, yes. Was it shift turnover time, yes. But anyone venturing here expecting what they see on social media may be let down.

My experience has usually been that if a restaurant/bar has some unique location offering, the food is lacking. If you think like I do, Sunset is a pleasant surprise. They are often packed as arrivals to the island stop by and departures try to get one last great view. The servers are all quite busy but the service is still great. We can't seem to move past the shrimp po boy as it is so good. We've done many drink options and all are tasty as well.

Went to this bar for the experience of watching the planes come in (a great attraction when visiting St Maarten) and some drinks and lunch. The service was great - the restaurant got very crowded but the staff didn’t have us waiting long for anything. And we had incredible views of the planes landing!

We came to SBG to see the sunset and watch some planes land right over the beach. This was very exciting. This is a pretty extensive club and party place.
It took us a while to get a drink menu and finally get our drinks. The drinks were over priced. Eight dollars for an 8 ounce drink.
It was a good show though. The place was packed and there were plenty of small aircraft landing during the sunset.

I saw some photos of this bar/ restaurant that showed a pool but not any reviews that mention it. Is there a pool at this location and is there a fee to use it or is it accessible as a patron of the restaurant? Thanks!

Yes there is a pool. Can buy a day pass to use loungers and have a dip. Not the deepest of pools, but if you want to cool off without sand and saltwater its great. It was 10 dollars when we were there
Jan 18 and well worth it, as it does get busy on the beach with everyone dashing to the fence when planes are due in. Not sure if they do waiter service to you for drinks but you are next to the shopping area, good music and excellent staff.

Hi, Karen. What would you like to know about this attraction? Is this place within walking distance of the cruise pier?

No, this is not within walking distance. You could most likely arrange an excursion through the cruise line, or take a taxi from the port. It's about 30min ride by car depending on traffic.
Does anyone know the name of the shop across from Sunset Bar & Grill? Kind of important...we bought some it items there then unfortunately left them in a cab. Trying to replace a hat my son had bought and would love to be able to contact shop.
