    Planes, Nachos and beer!
Visited to see the planes, like everyone else I guess. Bar selection was good but the staff weren’t too friendly. Being made to feel daft for asking questions isn’t much for customer service in my opinion. Nachos were great, beers tasty, views nice. Main issue was that it’s far too busy now, many years ago this wasn’t the case, but now it’s rammed. Good for business and popularity but it’s losing its charm.

Good place to plane spot, but a bit pricey.
Great location to plane spot while having a drink and pretty good food. Was a bit much that they have a guy at the washroom entrance charging $1 USD entrance even for customers. They add 15% gratuity to the bill.

    Henrietta saved a Hangry Family
After waiting at another bar for 30 mins to get served, we were now a crabby family who had 40 minutes left at a very busy Maho. Henrietta saw us and asked what was wrong. We explained that we were hungry but didnt have enough time to sit and eat without missing our bus. After hearing this, she immediately got us seated and served. The drinks were rightly needed. We ordered Nachos and a cheeseburger. All three of us agree that the burger was the best one we had had in a long time. Quickest service ever. Thank you Henrietta for adding a little magic to our trip. We really appreciated it.

Great view of the water and incoming planes
I had a drink at the bar (a bottle of water) during a morning in March 2024. The bartender was very nice. He told me that 9 am or 10 am was the best time to come - not too crowded. He said by 12 noon every last table is taken. I went there for the view of the water, incoming planes and of two hotels in the distance - Royal Islander Club and Sonesta Hotel. There were a lot of good photo ops. I will go back and try the food for breakfast in the future.

    Bucket List
Loved this area, a bucket list for my husband , he enjoyed seeing all the planes coming in for a landing. The restaurant was very busy and everyone, is excited to see the planes coming in for a landing. We enjoyed our snack of nachos and drinks.

Sunset Grill in St. Maarten is toted as a must see to travelers going to this beautiful destination. Over the years ( prior to the Irma), the grounds have been beautified, with a mini pool, large kitchen and modern look. But it comes at an expense of course. On our recent visit to the attraction, there were a handful of people waiting to for an inbound or out going flight in which to experience the power of these airplanes. Not the usual crowd.
The biggest complaint was the service at the bar. We sat for 15 minutes at a dirty table waiting for service. (It wasn't packed by any means). I had to pee so I went to the facilities but was halted by a young girl telling me I had to pay a dollar. Having no change, she refused me entry. She said if I was ordering from the menue or drinks, they would deduct the fee of a dollar from my bill. But I had no cash on me. When speaking to the manager he said its beca5people sit there and wait for their flights to arrive as they have no where to wait. So everyone is painted the same. This,to me, is nickle and diming an already very expensive trip. Not to mention the poor service. Too bad. It was a favorite spot for us when we frequently travel to the Dutch side of the island.

There was a time when this was a fun and wonderful place to go to have a beer, watch the crazy people on the beach and see the jet planes come in so close to the ground. Now it has become a nightmare. As you approach the property there is nothing but tourists shops selling everything on the planet. The music at 11 AM is so loud that it hurts your ears. There are two very loud speakers close to the entrance to the facility which make it impossible to carry on a conversation at any level. It has changed from what was a friendly low-key place with Caribbean music to relax, laugh, have a few beers into basically a small strip shopping center selling hats and T-shirts and so so food. Wishing for the old days! Won't be back.

I have been going to Sunset for decades and I’ve watched it decline from its hey day to what it is now: pathetic. I’m unsure of the ownership or management history but somewhere along the way they decided to destroy the place. They used to have speakers along the railing with the tower frequency broadcasting live. It was great to hear the pilots in the know give a shout out to the patrons and wave. That’s gone. They used to have great service - Gone. Good food - Gone. Nice people working there - Gone. Skip this place and head to the other side of the beach to Driftwood. It’s excellent! Excellent service, excellent food, excellent vibe and excellent people. To top it off the beers are $1 cheaper and the same view of the planes coming in. Sorry Sunset, for these reasons; I’m out. Driftwood is my spot now.

We stopped here on an excursion on the island. It’s a fun, fast paced place to watch the planes landing overhead. We had a burger and fries which were good. Our only complaint about Sunset is that they CHARGE you $1 to use the bathroom! Unreal! Also our driver had asked us to wash off our feet before we came back to his van and said that there’s a spot to clean your feet. We thought it would be a shower or tap. No, it a cess pool of water, with taps that don’t work to clean it, where people put their feet in to “clean” them off. We did not! It’s unfortunate that with all the people flocking there to see the planes, they don’t have better facilities. I would have rather peed for free and pay $1 for a shower.

People obviously go to this bar to see the planes fly overhead to/from the airport. Best day, we heard, was Saturdays, FYI. We went during the week AND on a day the cruise ships were in port, which was a very bad idea.

Every seat was taken and the beach was packed. Interesting people watching, but the service was extremely slow. We had to get up and find someone to take our oder. My husband, however, said he had the best dish he had on the island there - a philly cheese steak. So, definitely try that!

Had to pay A DOLLAR to go to the bathroom, but we got the dollar back on our bill when we gave the coupon to the server. Weird way to keep people out of the bathroom. So, I'd go again, but only when the cruise ships aren't in port.

We came to SBG to see the sunset and watch some planes land right over the beach. This was very exciting. This is a pretty extensive club and party place.
It took us a while to get a drink menu and finally get our drinks. The drinks were over priced. Eight dollars for an 8 ounce drink.
It was a good show though. The place was packed and there were plenty of small aircraft landing during the sunset.

Went to this bar for the experience of watching the planes come in (a great attraction when visiting St Maarten) and some drinks and lunch. The service was great - the restaurant got very crowded but the staff didn’t have us waiting long for anything. And we had incredible views of the planes landing!

It was very crowded here at the bar after the pouring rain but our bus driver found us a table under the umbrellas and wiped clean all the stools so we had a place to settle down. Perfect location to watch the planes other than a little wet. Service was good taking into consideration that they were so busy. We ordered a few pizzas and some beer as we waited and the sun finally came out. The pizzas were piping hot and delicious with many varieties. The young people went down to the beach for better photos and we just stayed up at the bar enjoying the exciting moments. What a great way to enjoy lunch!

The Sunset Bar & Grill was a fun place to visit. Had a tropical atmosphere and the location overlooking Maho Beach was perfect. Great viewing of the planes landing. Something everyone should experience while visiting St. Marten. Only complaint was the drinks are a little pricey for their size.

My experience has usually been that if a restaurant/bar has some unique location offering, the food is lacking. If you think like I do, Sunset is a pleasant surprise. They are often packed as arrivals to the island stop by and departures try to get one last great view. The servers are all quite busy but the service is still great. We can't seem to move past the shrimp po boy as it is so good. We've done many drink options and all are tasty as well.
