We've often passed the signs for Threave Gardens & I've always said I wanted to visit, well I'm so glad we finally went in, what an absolutely beautiful garden, we visited on a sunny, clear day the views from the top at the house were astounding, such a peaceful and interesting place, we will most definitely be back.

Being members of the English National Trust, entry is free. We visited last year and just had to return to one of our favourite places in Dumfries and Galloway. Wonderful gardens to explore but go beyond the top of the gardens beyond the house and enter the wooded area through the large gates. Here as you meander through the woods... More

House tour was very good but due to lack of volunteer guides can only be as an accompanied tour. The husband and wife team were very knowledgable and gave a good explanation of the artic acts in each room. Very good, I just wished we had longer, particularly down in the kitchens and scullery where there were lots of items... More

We arrived in time for a tour of the house, which was well done and interesting. The gardens were pleasant to walk around with plenty to see. We arrived at the restaurant at the same time as a lot of other people, so old snack took a while to arrive. We chose a baked potato but the other choice of... More

Threave Garden was a lot bigger than I had expected it to be, make sure you pick up one of the maps at the pay desk so you don't miss out on anything. the Gardens are broken down into different sections and all are well kept and sign posted. Lovely coffee shop for lunch and snacks. We also took a... More

We spent a sunny day in the gardens after enjoying a lunch at the on site cafe. (Actually there are two cafes, there.) The paths traverse a gently rolling site with exquisite views and well stocked borders. The gardens have a number of benches to sit and rest, if you tire easily as well as a playground for children If... More

We went here today lovely gardens and place areas and facilities for kids. Had lunch there, haggis toasties were fab, we had a good walk round enjoyed it but disappointing that a few of the areas including the House as well as the castle were closed.

Thank you so much for your review following your recent visit to Threave Garden and Estate, including the children's Discovery Garden play area and the Terrace Cafe. I'm so pleased that you enjoyed the toasties! Threave House is advertised widely as being open on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday. Admission to the house is by guided tour only, and tours... We ended up missing lots of the garden as we spent almost 2h on the house tour - provided by obviously enthusiastic volunteers, but rather too detailed for us, we'd rather have had more time exploring the beautiful gardens.

We visited here a day after heavy rain and the ground was saturated and we were slipping on the slopes. It is a huge place with small enclosed gardens and lakes. Lots of trees and grass but we didn't find many flowers. We were a bit disappointed not what we were expecting. Nice place for a picnic if it was... More

Thank you for your recent review following your visit to Threave Garden. I am sorry that the weather was wet when you visited the garden and it was also damp underfoot. Unfortunately I am unable to do anything about the weather! However, the garden is full of blooms at this time of the year including many roses, perrenials and flowering... More
