We stumbled across the Sulwath Brewery/pub on a sunny afternoon in Castle Douglas. There is a pleasant courtyard but we opted to sit inside where you can enjoy their lovely beers in real glass as opposed to the plastic ones you use if you’re sitting outside. We were given a real friendly welcome and were offered free tastings of the various beers. We made our choices and enjoyed a number of different beers. My husband also enjoyed his hot Scotch pie, not only were the beers all very good, but were reasonably priced. There’s a good selection of their beers to purchase too.
We had a chat with very friendly locals and the bar staff are excellent and we look forward to a return visit.

Stumbled across this wee hidden gem while dodging showers in Castle Douglas. The seemed to be taken the re-opening conditions seriously, so I had my first post-lockdown pint of draft beer, and excellent porter called Black Galloway. I also had my second pint here, two days later. Will definately re-visit if in the area.

Stopped off in Castle Douglas after spotting this taphouse in the Camra Good Beer Guide. Not easy to find, down an alleyway off the high street, but well worth it. Plenty of great ales to choose from served by friendly staff in a quirky little room. Well worth a visit.

Spent a splendid afternoon with my family tasting the excellent selection of in house beers. Felt at home amongst the regulars and the unique decor made for a special visit. Went at the same time last year and felt the same then.

It was great to see you again. Please don't wait for a full year before you come to see us again. We will still have plenty of beers for you to try.

What a find 😊 my other half and I visited here on 3 afternoons during a week's break in castle douglas. We were made to feel really welcome each time, and the beer was really good!! We love a good tap room, and this one really hit the mark.

A great visit to the brewery with some friends on holiday in Kippford. We bought some fish and chips from Moore’s and ate them whilst enjoying some fantastic ales brewed and packaged in this fantastic brewery. A huge thanks to Charmaine who looked after us and let us peek in the brewery. We left with many gift bags of beers to enjoy. Loved it and fully recommended for some great beers. Tucked away on the main High Street so keep a look out.

The Brewery Tap at Sulwath Brewery extends a warm welcome to one and all. First visit on Friday 3rd July we were greeted by the owner Jim and left feeling we had been regulars for years. You are but a stranger once.

This was a slightly different tour to what I've been on before. 1.5 hrs long and very very relaxed. The tour costs £3.50 but you get a pint (half as you arrive and half St the end) worth £3 so it's value for money. The gentleman running the tour own the business and you get a full history of how he came about. He certainly knows his stuff and has lots to show you and let you taste and smell.
The overall Impression I was left with tho though was that it needed a bloomin good clean and updating. The pictures he shows seem to be from the 80s and never been updated since and the whole place feels like it's in the 80s.
I was conscious of how old and dirty some part of the site were and how mouldy the toilet walls were. I assume this is due to the age of the building being an old dairy farm but it did make me a little unsettled. Possibly I'm over fussy and OCD about these things.
I would say this is very much value for money, we did bring bottled beers home so it didn't put us off buying to take home. I just felt a small investment in making the place cleaner and a little more modern would have gone long way.

This brewery tap is not for those of you who like fine dining in sophisticated surroundings but for those of us who like a proper local, this is the place. The manager (?owner) serves locals and curious visitors like me and my husband with a friendly smile and if you're looking for good value drinks, this is the place as two pints and a delicious pie came to only £7.10! Love it but only open in the day.

Thank you for your kind review Moira. We aim to give value for money & I'm glad you have found that here. Please come back to visit us soon & enjoy some more of our beers. The pies aren't too bad either!
