Not your average War Memorial

Very ornate War Memorial next to the abbey with very well maintained colourful gardens. It stands next to the road to the Tweed Bridge. Fine statues and an interesting piece of architecture.

Situated next to Kelso Abbey you will find this wonderful tribute to all the brave hero’s of wars gone by. It’s so nice that it’s been well respected as well, as it stands in outstanding grounds.

Lovely Tribute
Oct 2019
Standing right next to Kelso Abbey is a stunning memorial. It lists the many casualties of World War I on stones surrounding a centre cross as well as a placard devoted to those who perished during World War II.
It is beautifully placed, and surrounded by lovely gardens still full of blooming flowers in October.
There is also a lovely thank you from a Polish regiment, it Thanks the people of Kelso for their kindness and hospitality........ at a time when people had nothing!
Let us never forget x

Kelso is a small town but with such a lot of heritage and interesting things to see. Just next to the ruined Abbey is this war memorial. It’s impeccably maintained and give some interesting information. Worth stopping to look at.

Impressive and poignant.

I don’t know if it is the fact that the monument was presented to the town by the town’s military regiment, but somehow it seemed to add gravitas and poignancy to it. There is no doubt that it is an impressive structure and the situation in a peaceful little park, next to the ruined Abbey is rather lovely.

I always make a point of visiting this historic monument.
Both my grandparents and great grandparents fought in the two wars, and to come back to this monument, well it brings back many memories and stories that I was told by my family.
