This quarry is small enough to wander around and you can have a longer walk or go up the quarry hills (safely) and have good views. There's a lot of slate around which is good if you have an aquarium and you like the slate with a touch of pyrites.

The cafe is really nice: a cute gift shop with local pieces and then a nice seating area with tables outside as well. Only had a hot drink and cake here but it was really nice. Staff are very friendly. Bear in mind this does close at 4.30PM.

Given there's not much to Ballachulish village you really have to take in the quarry. I would advise caution though as the water is easily accessible and was alarmed to see young children playing on the slate some 20-30 feet above it. Think more preventative measures are required to stop people climbing the rock face.

We walked from our self catering cottage to the quarry but there is a car park near the entrance if needed. There information boards where we could learn all about the history of the quarry and about working conditions.

The quarry is a lovely little spot to learn a bit more about the history of Ballachulish and the community. There are several picnic spots and a great short walk starts near the gate, with a view over the village and Loch.
