Were this beach near Bournemouth it would have hundreds of people on it, all fighting for a couple of square yards of space. Thankfully, it is nowhere near Bournemouth and there is plenty of room for all to enjoy. The beach backs onto the golf course. You can either access the beach on foot from the village (where there may be some free parking) or alternatively there is a beach-side car park which involves driving across the adjacent golf course, for which a small parking fee is charged. Either way it's an excellent beach. Dogs are allowed.

Alnmouth Beach is an undeveloped, understated, hidden gem, devoid of all those commercial enterprises that can so easily spoil a place. Here, it’s basically just a wide expanse of sand and sea. Of course, it’s the North Sea, so a wet suit might be a good idea for those wishing to take the waters. Just walking barefoot in the sand is enough for me … though I mostly just keep my walking shoes on. Read into that what you will!

Unwary visitors should keep an eye on the River Aln, which snakes quietly down around the charming harbour, half-hidden from casual view, into the sea. The small, welcoming sandbanks that form near the shore can all too swiftly be cut off from the mainland as the tide comes in. We saw a woman and two young children on a distant sandbank distractedly gazing out to sea as the tide surreptitiously crept in behind them, joined up with the river, and cut off access to the shore. The woman realised her predicament just in time to make it safely home – aided by several passers-by who waded into the deepening waters to help her and her children to shore.

The presence of the River Aln is also what makes it impossible to walk along the sand all the way from Alnmouth to nearby Warkworth. One needs to make an initial landside detour from Alnmouth over the Aln and along the coastal path, before heading for the dunes and a lovely seaside walk towards Warkworth – about a 90-minute stroll in total, if I remember correctly.

This is my third visit to this area, and it's growing on me. In particular, the beaches here remind me of the last line of Shelley’s Poem, Ozymandias:
“The lone and level sands stretch far away ….”

This is a beautiful beach with plenty of room for everyone. The sand is soft and clean and the beach is very flat so perfect for kids. We arrived about 1h after high tide and stayed for a couple of hours and it was only a short stroll to the water the whole time. It was a warm sunny Sunday but the beach is plenty big enough for the number of people. The car park is large (£3 all day to park) but was very busy when we were there so I’d suggest arriving early or late in the day. No toilets at the beach (I believe there’s some in the town but not sure how far the walk is) and no food/drink facilities so take a picnic.

What a beautiful beach, with miles of sand. We paid £2 (contactless covid-19 measures) for the car park. The public toilets are quite a long walk away, so be prepared for this. We also had a long wait, queueing for 25 mins on one occasion! On our mid morning visits, the sea was a long way out on all three visits to the beach, but once we reached the water it was surprisingly warm and we were able to paddle. A flow of water spanned across the sands, which was perfect for paddling in and warm. My daughter had a great time in the water. Watch out for the huge crabs, we also spotted a fish in the sea.

Lovely wide and clean sandy beach with plenty of space for sandcastles, swimming (even if a bit chilly in the water) and flying kits. Car parking alongside it at just £2 per day is great value too. Just a pity that some dog owners can't control their animals and leave them to run around and crash into people and their picnics.

We visited the beach on a return trip from Alnwick. It's a beautiful area with long sandy expanses of beach and at 5 in the afternoon on what had been a slightly wet day extremely easy to social distance!

Car parking was very easy and very cheap at £2 for the day, which would only have bought us half an hour in some destinations.

It's a very flat area and easy to walk around the whole of the bay, of interest to adults and children alike.

Definitely a place to return to.

Walked along the beach late afternoon on a November afternoon. Parked the car in the Beach car park by the golf course and walked along the beach to Seaton Point. Lovely Sandy beaches with the sun setting produced an amazing orange reflection on the sand as the sun set in the afternoon. Would recommend the beach for a walk.

This is a really gorgeous beach and allows for a nice long walk with the dogs. Came here last year but this year the car park has gone up over a pound and costs £3.50 for however, short or long you stay. Not bad if you stay all day but a bit pricey for a half an hour’s walk. Also beware flying golf balls as the golf club has to be driven through to reach the car park and some eve land on the beach.

Nice beach with lots of space even when the tide is in. The beach is sandy and relatively clean. Paid £3 to park right next to the beach, only downside here is that’s all you get- no bins, no toilets, no refreshments (all a 5 min walk away)

Absolutely adore Alnmouth beach.
Great walk for the dogs, which are allowed all year through.
Soft golden sand, plenty of space if you want to avoid others, as the tide turns it leaves decent pools great for the hairy 4 legged ones to make a splash....car park takes a decent amount of vehicles and is very reasonably priced.
Easy walk to the village....
Cannot beat a Northumberland beach !!!
Wonderful memories
