This place was a nice stop on a sunny day however you can get round it in less than an hour. There are lots of nice views but it's not worth going just to see this, we combined it with a visit to forbidden corner.

My sister and I first visited this castle when I was a teenager. We are still both in love with it. Admittedly we were both fascinated by Richard III well before the discovery of his body in Leicester and that helped but it is a magnificent castle with so much history and amazing views that would be worth the entrance... Well worth visiting, be prepared to climb steps to get the best of the Castle's features. A beautifully maintained Castle, made interesting for all ages. Has a Castle gift shop and exhibition area.

Extensive ruins where you are free to clamber around (if you want to) great for kids (even young teenagers who can forget for a short time about being cool). Several posters explaining history and the purpose of the various parts of the castle you are looking at. A couple of these posters were well worn (weathered or just worn out... More

great ruin to look around and climb about, set in a lovely village that nestles around it. Small exhibit area and guide book that gives more info, cost 15 ish for family ticket with free parking nearby on the roads so is cheaper than some of the other nearby castles but without indoors to explore - it is an impressive... Went for a few days to the Yorkshire dales and was pleasantly surprised with this little gem. At first I just thought how interesting will it be, a load of ruins from an ancient castle. My daughter (5 yrs) was very keen to go inside so we did. We ended up spending a couple of hours here and the kids... More

Interesting ruin with a lot of history.Only really suitable for a visit in good weather. The castle would have benefited from more information boards as what there was was a bit limited. Very helpful staff.

We looked around the Castle, childhood home of Richard 3rd.... .. what a lovely ruin and to be honest reasonable at a fiver each adult (unless you have an English heritage pass of course!) .... next door is a racing horse stable that was a great bonus too!

We are members of English Heritage. We enjoyed exploring this site. It is not suitablefor wheelchair users and there are no toilets on site. The shop sells souvenirs and drinks but the coffee machine was broken when we were there.
