We were lucky to visit on a clear sunny day when the view from the top of the keep was spectacular. We have visited Middleham three or four times before, but I still find it interesting. The castle is very much ruined but you are about to ascend stairs which will place you on the same level as the great... More

As someone who very into their medieval history, it was something that I had to go to. Although it is largely ruins, you can tell that it use to be something very magnificent as the marital home of Richard III and Anne Neville. Great views from the top that look around the beautiful country side of Middleham. As well as... More

Very historic medieval castle directly linked to Richard III and the Nevilles. Although mainly a ruin internally, there is a fair amount still intact and there are some (rather weather worn) information points dotted about. There is also a very small information area dedicated to Richard III in the English Heritage shop. Entry is free to English Heritage members. No... More

Relatively small castle with links to Richard of York in a lovely setting. There are lost of levels to clamber over and some picnic tables right in the middle. Its also worth the short walk up the hill to the site of the first castle to look back down on this one.

Richard III and Anne Neville lived here -so considering when the castle was built, what is left is in great condition. There's lots of info around, explaining what is what, and pictures of reconstructions. We spent about 1 hour wandering around. The views from the top of the Keep are wonderful - all around Middleham and you might even see... More

I took a 6 year old and his mum to the castle, they both enjoyed it enormously. Tall keeps to go up, small holes to peer through. Well kept within the walls and the surrounding area. Well worth a visit. Fantastic views over lower Wensleydale.

Not the usual pile of stones - this is a substantial remnant hidden away behind the village. I've passed it loads of times without realising that it was there. Well worth forking out to English Heritage for the visit. Good views from the top. Some interpretation boards in poor condition and not many of them either, but definitely worth a... More

My whole weekend was worthwhile with the seminars, reenactment sand displays of medieval life. Everyone was passionate about their topic or skill bringing Richard's times to life in the very castle where he lived and ruled from. I'd definitely consider attending another reenactment weekend there!
