The local Ladies Leisure group had organised a trip to Rockingham Castle and I signed up when I realised that, although I've always lived not far away, I'd never visited before. The lady taking the money for parking was very pleasant, as was the lady taking the entrance fee. Once inside we gathered in a room decorated for Christmas. Out... More

We visited for "Christmas Eve 1881" & were transported back to that time by our lovely host the children's governess. The castle still maintains the feel of a lovely family home & was decorated accordingly the children had even left the toys out that they had been playing with in the drawing room good to see the Victorian toys. Our... More

We enjoyed the special Victorian Christmas tour given by a local playing the part of the housekeeper and telling us about Christmas in the castle in 1895. There was also plenty of shopping and snacking available on a cold day.

Visited last Friday and enjoyed everything. The parking is well organised with the matting so you don't get stuck. The car park greeter was very friendly wishing us a nice day and sounding like he really meant it. We walked in through the arch to the sound of carols and another friendly greeter showed us where everything was. It was... More

Thank you for taking the time to write your review. I will pass on your compliments to our staff, I'm sure they would enjoy hearing such positive comments. I understand your criticism however the reason we do not allow photography in the house as it distracts our guides who try to remain in character and can also interrupt other visitors... More

Enjoyed a magical evening with three friends at Rockingham Castle's Victorian Christmas evening. The castle was decorated for Christmas with log fires, candles etc. A talented gentleman played the grand piano in the long hall. The staff, every single one of them, were helpful, chatty and efficient. We went in the evening, which is probably best, and on a 'choir'... More

Just superb. From the moment we arrived and were welcomed by the car park staff until we left after eating a delightful christmas dinner, this visit could not be faulted. For the money this is a great attraction, we enjoyed the tour given by Miss Collins the Governess, who gave us a wonderful insight to life at Rockingham at Christmas.... More

Rockingham castle hosts a number of re-enactment days during the course of the year, anything from Vikings, to English Civil war and History through the ages. Its a fantastic location and you can combine visiting the event with a trip round the castle itself and its interesting museum. easy to find, plenty of parking space and not too expensive, an... If you visit this castle, make sure you make use of the guided tour around the grounds first as it is very informative giving you the history of the building from William the conquerors time to the present, how the medieval castle has given way to the slightly more modern building present today. it has been in the Watson family... Paying and parking was very easy. A short walk downhill to the main castle. Tea room is open from 12 noon but house not open until 1pm.
