The Garden House is a 10 acre series of garden rooms, each planted differently, for seasonal interest. Visitors love the planting styles, 16th century ruins, bright colours and far reaching views over wild flower meadows. Children can roam free and find hidden corners and explore trails and trees. It is a wonderful place for garden enthusiasts, walkers and family visits. The tea room in the main house is renowned for freshly made treats and light lunches. A healthier options menu is very popular. Plants sold onsite at our well stocked plant centre are often propagated from the garden, so you will find interesting and unusual varieties that aren't commonly available elsewhere.

The gardens will soon be closed for the winter and this is a great place to visit at any time of the year. Today (at the end of October) there were still flowers and plants to admire and especially the colours of the Acers.

Have visited lots of times with and without children and always something new to discover any time of year for the plant enthusiast. The tea shop is lovely too for home cooked food.

We returned to this lovely garden to see how the jubilee arboretum had developed, and like the rest of the place it was superb. The acer glade was outstanding and there were still poppies, autumn crocuses and vibrant dahlias in good bloom. There is such tranquility in this small but enthralling garden. The addition of slightly less step paths has... More

We arrived on a misty September morning but even in light drizzle these gardens were delightful and as the sun came out things got better and better. The gardens are not huge, about 8 acres, I think but the variation in levels and plantings makes every step a pleasure. Even in September so many flowers were in bloom and the... More

A slightly wrong turning on our way to somewhere else took us past the entrance to the Garden House so we decided to take a quick look and have a coffee before continuing our journey.........how wrong was that! A few hours later with a delicious lunch included, has ensured that this has moved to the top of the list as... More

we caught it on a warm sunny early September day - full of colour with a hint of autumn tones to come. it was glorious although the strength of planting and structure should give the garden year long appeal. the highlight is the walled garden. plenty of benches to sit and enjoy the planting and tranquility. the tea room had... I visited with my family while on holiday from Australia and we found the Garden House delightful. The formal gardens were beautiful, set around some old buildings and the walks were easy to manage with a pushchair and a preschooler. My niece enjoyed finding the 'hidden' animals as we walked around and was thrilled to see Mr McGregor doing some... More
