A charming place; we went to a service (taken by the former Archbishop of Uppsala, who lives locally). Sitting next to a very fine lady soprano helped with the hymns. There is a modern church hall in the grounds which serves refreshments.

This church is simply stunning. It’s at the heart of Sigtuna. History is long and the grounds are beautifully kept. Simply a lovely church with several beautiful concerts and masses during the year.

Mariakyrkan/Church of St. Mary was built mid 1230’s and was completed around 1255. Built by the Dominican friars, they even made the bricks themselves in a furnace north of the church. This was the first time bricks were used, rather than stone in the Mälardalen...More

A lovely piece of history from the thirteenth century for people who are interested in architecture. This is one of the few Catholic churches left standing after the religious referendum took place in Sweden. It is worth a quick peek if you are visiting Sigtuna,...More

This is the Lutheran church that is currently in use today. The building dates back to 1255 with much of the original building still intact. It is quite nice inside with some great painted ceilings that must be quite old.

Being built in the mid-13th century, this church is one of the oldest brick buildings in the Lake Mälaren valley. Go inside for a few moments as it is as beautiful in the inside as it is on the outside.

Besides the waterfront, this is probably the nicest place to visit in Sigtuna. The church is constructed from brick. The stained glass, woodcarvings, and ceilings are beautiful. Free admission.

This old church sits beside the ruins of St. Olofs and is still in use. It was originally a Roman Catholic church but became a Lutheran church after the reformation. Apparently the local bishop met Martin Luther and converted. Interestingly, they still have a crucifix...More
