Climb up to the Ermita for the view of the coast and sea, but irregular hours, so may be closed. Charming little church. Worth a walk up.

We visited Sant Pol del Mar yesterday and it was an amazing escape from the hustle and bustle of Barcelona! I am going to post about it here because I would love for more people to visit here! Only about an hour train (using the Rodalies line towards Blanes (R1) ), it is so easily accessible. It is such a quaint, historic town that’s not busy with tourists. There are apartments with character situated along the waterfront. We went to a large public beach (it’s free) and spent the day floating on a tube in the ocean! It is a european ish beach so be prepared for a bit more nudity that you’d see in America. We also watched a soccer game between local teams of children as there seemed to be a tournament going on. We ate dinner at La Selva (the Jungle) and had italian dishes. I would suggest the Canneloni por Ani, a rich creamy cheese and meat dish. I highly recommend this adventure to anyone who looks forward to experiencing a small Costa Brava town. The people were very friendly to American tourists (as we are).

At the northern end of Sant Pol de Mar, the Ermita de Sant Pau is the northern landmark of this small attractive, historic town. The Ermita was previously a Benedictine abbey, but history then saw many changes in ownership, usage and in the addition of many architectural styles. Slightly brooding, definitely a defensive stronghold, and yet a pleasing symbol of this charming town.
Situated on a hillside obviously yields great views from the Ermita - which unfortunately appears to be closed to the public - but that climb up from Sant Pol town centre is certainly worth it for the views across the bay.

Worth the steep climb to enjoy the lovely view from the Ermita - atmospheric and peaceful particularly at this time of the year. Lit up at night.
