We did book our first kitesurfing holiday ever with Pata Negra. From the moment reservation was made, we have had a great experience. Immediately after reservation was made, a personal message has been received from Jana. She appeared to be our kitesurf instructor during the 4 days of lessons we booked. Beyond teaching us our first kitesurf skills, she went way and beyond providing us services. E.g. when wind was too strong at our regular training spot, she took us out to another area outside Tarifa, which was >40 minute drive, to allow us still practicing our skills there. Jana’s style of teaching is very flexible, meaning she is quickly adjusting whatever works best for the individual to learn. Ian and myself (Dennis) did have a great week with Pata Negra Surf and definitely do recommend them as THE kitesurf school to go with in Tarifa!
Thanks Jana for the great time we have had with you!

Dennis and Ian

I totally recommend surfing school Pata Negra in Tarifa. We didn't order kitesurfing lessons in advance but luckily we found this surfing school and we were able to start with kitesurfing in the same day without problem. Jana is a really skilled talented teacher and extremely kind person. She taught us not just how to control kite but also self-rescue procedures in case of troubles and the basics of understanding the wind. Also she was able to recommend us good climbing locations and places to hike. Huge thanks Jana! I believe it wasn't my last time in Tarifa so see you next time!

Tarifa is the best place in the world to make Kite Surfing. However you need to practice again again to be secure and confident.
I definitively recommend Pata Negra Surf if you need some courses. Oso is great, professional and funny teacher. With him you will learn fast and have a lot of fun in the waves.
Looking for a school don’t take a school in the center of Tarifa and go to pata negra !!!

Loved the experience with Pata Negra Kitesurf. Jana organised everything perfectly, hotel and lessons.
My instructors Jaime and Ricardo were really good and motivating. Even on the days with little or to much wind, the instructor brought me to different beaches to try our luck there.
Will definitely come back!
Thanks!

We spent 3 fantastic days with Pata Negra Surf doing paddle boarding, biking and kite surfing. Jhon and Jani were excellent guides and instructors. The biking was on a trail along the coast and the views were incredible. Jhon was such a fun guide and gave us lots of history of the area. Jani taught us all kinds of fun paddle boarding tricks. Two of our twenty something kids spent 2 days learning how to kite surf and really loved it. Jhon and Jani were very patient and extremely safety conscious. Our kids can't wait to progress to the next level.
Thanks so much Pata Negra Surf for making our trip to Tarifa so much fun and we can't wait to return.

So we wanted to take a surfing lesson - 4 of us. Adults with 11 year old twins. I booked with Pata Negra because of the great reviews on TripAdvisor. We had a great day. Our instructors could not have been nicer, patient and honestly better. They took the time to stretch us and really work on the proper technique. We all had such a wonderful day. Tarifa also could not be a cooler place. Loved all of it. Thank you Pata Negra!!!!

We were staying in Canos de Meca for the weekend and wanted to try out Stand Up Paddle Surf. We found Pata Negra online and couldn't be happier!
Yana, the instructor, was brilliant. I personally am not very comfortable in open water and in general with water activities but she managed to help me actually stand up and paddle (even if it was only for a short time). She is extremely professional, puts you at ease and let's you take your time until you are totally comfortable.
They were also able to accomodate a large group (10 of us) at a short notice. Absolutely recommended!

One of the best experiences of my life - time spent at the water school Pata Negra in El Palmar with my friends. I tried everything that the school offers. For me, the best was the evening SUP in the ocean watching the sunsets. Lots of fun with bodyboards in the waves, when Jana pulled me in for a ride with a kite, and windsurfing lessons with Carlos.
Thanks Jana, Javi and Carlos that I could try everything that can be done in the Atlantic ocean for sports as well as for the perfect service, lessons and facilities.

My experience at Pata Negra was priceless. The combination of professional service and very friendly attitudes made me feel I was in good hands. As a complete beginner I learned how to kitesurf. I had so much fun and thanks to my instructor Jana who was very patient with me and always in a good mood, I managed to get rid of the fear I had from kiting. I spent there two weeks and had really a great time. I can highly recommend this place. Another advantage of Pata Negra is that due to its international staff, the language barrier is reduced to a minimum. Languages well spoken there are Spanish, English, Czech, Slovakian and German. It might be even more now as It is been a while I have been there. Muchas gracias otra vez !!!!!

Went with a few friends to go kitesurfing, SUP'ing and surfing.
There's lots to do in El Palmar, kitesurfing, windsurfing, surfing, SUP'ing. There's something for everyone at any level, from total beginner all the way to learning advanced freestyle kite tricks you will be able to progress at Pata Negra. Jani, Jhon and Carlos are experienced and friendly instructors who can help you get to grips with the skills and have a lot of fun doing it.
Pata Negra is located at the south end of El Palmer and only one town north of Los Canos de Meca (where the Red Bull Batalla de Trafalgar event took place). You can kite during Lavante (easterly winds) at Los Canos or when it's Poniente (westerly winds) you can stay in El Palmar. It's not far to go to other cool spots like Rio Jara and Tarifa is only 30 minutes down the road.
If you like to stay away from the crowds and have a more down to earth experience, El Palmar is the place to be and Pata Negra gives everything you need in terms of watersports.
There's some night life a few really cool little bars, at Pata Negra itself and a nice little beech bar just 50m away. There are bigger more mainstream bars further up along the beach and Los Canos has a bit of a party reputation! But not too overcrowded like in Tarifa.
There are nice places to eat too, a great little co-operative just at the main entrance to El Palmar where you can get good tapas at very reasonable prices and a few good supermarkets and a couple of amazing traditional caniceria (butchers).
There's a few camp sites in El Palmar and also in Los Canos. There might be more substantial accommodation around but I personally haven't tried them.
You can get to El Palmar during high season via a direct bus from Malaga central bus terminal, which you can get to via a frequent shuttle service from Malaga airport. This drops you at a stop opposite the co-operative. So you can get a tapas and a cerveza as soon as you arrive! ;)
Off season access is a bit more complicated, you have to get a bus to Algeciras then on to Cornil, then maybe hitch to El Palmar from there! But it's better to just hire a car from Malaga, from experience! Saves time and is not much more expensive for the trip, of course you have to pay for the other days you have it. But if you share it's very reasonable and you will have even more freedom to get around.
One advice is you should make sure you have enough cash because there isn't any cash point in El Palmar, and Los Canos too for that matter. There are several in Cornil, one right at the bus stop actually. Again if you had a car you would not have a problem to get there.
I had an amazing time there, Jani, Javi and Carlos make the best hosts, so friendly and we had such great laughs and of course great sessions. I'll be back next year for sure! ;)
