Every time you do go round it you see something different and it is always a hub of activity It is the main focal point of the town and leads down from the beautiful square with the stunning church on it. There are statues, gardens, plant pots on the wall and so many other things to make it beautiful. The views out to say absolutely stunning and it is a photographer's dream.Visited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 3, 2024

Of course, we weren't completely alone here on the afternoon of May 1st... The beautiful square with the church in front of the Balcon de Europa is definitely worth a stop: lick a delicious ice cream, watch the hustle and bustle - simply wonderful!Visited May 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten May 1, 2024

We parked at the large paid parking lot - and they walked well 400m there. A lot of tourists. A lot of restaurants and shops. We found a cheap place to eat delicious dinner. Worth a visit in this exciting city.Visited June 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 21, 2024
- Almudena M8 contributionsIt's no big deal.It is not so much, the sunset does not fall by that place and in Malaga the truth that there is like a mist that merges with the horizon so you do not differentiate the sea from the sky. It is also very busy, normal in this summer time and tourists. It's not critical, but it went with expectations that weren't real.Visited July 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten July 8, 2024

We stayed in the Balcon de Europa hotel in a sea view room it's stunning. Its right on the beach with fantastic views of the sunrise. Love the parrots in the palm trees. A guy with a guitar plays for most of the day then back in the evenings. Nerja is a little hidden gem

A 360 degree view of the Mediterranean Sea gives the impression of infinite space. Attention to the smallest details with beautiful white arches, all embellished with characteristic vases of geraniums of a thousand colors. It is an ideal place to take magical moments. Always crowded at all hours of the day

Our visit to Nerja took in the wonderful views of the Mediterranean Sea from this modest, but elegant, paved promontory. We had visited earlier in the morning and were rewarded with a lack of crowds, which made our visit far more satisfying.
The Plaza area is a focal point here, used variously for performances and other events. The availability of occasional seating does allow you to take-in the peaceful atmosphere, albeit from a modest height above the sea.
Later in the week the Balcón de Europa was used for what was probably a ‘society wedding’ held in the 17th Century Church of El Salvador (Iglesia El Salvador) which sits within the Plaza Balcón de Europa. On another of our earlier morning visits here (to take breakfast in the café adjacent to the Balcón) we had been able to watch the bride and groom have their wedding photos taken in the early morning sun, with no crowds of guests and onlookers. We also saw the actual wedding taking place as we passed the church early on the Saturday afternoon, and we marvelled at the two horses drawing the wedding coach in full ceremonial tack.
We could stay a watch the wedding, as we were on our way back to our hotel to await the arrival of our taxi to the airport at Málaga.

The view is impressive, the square itself I would describe as "quite nice". The usual mediocre musicians are also there.
The alleys and small streets are actually pretty to look at, but in the evenings they are so crowded with people, bars and shops that it is not really fun to stroll there.

No visit to town is complete without water on this balcony. No matter what time of day you go you cannot fail to be impressed by its beauty and the views it brings.
You can spend ages staring out to see, looking at the beaches, the town or to the mountains behind it – you see something new every time.
People watching is great as well as both locals and tourists enjoy this amazing structure. The fact that it is right in the centre of the town just adds to its appeal as you’re never far away from bars, shops or restaurants.

This beautiful structure juts out into the sea and is a focal point for the town. Every visit to the centre involves us having a walk round it as no matter how many times you do it you see something different and wonderful.
It is adorned with sculptures and beautiful gardens and really has a classy feel to it. You're never far from a bar or restaurant when you're on it as well so it really is that central.
Make sure you take your camera as there are some magnificent views of the mountains and the sea, as well as the beach.

Room ok. Balcony quite small but the worst part was hot food at breakfast was cold. Imagine eating cold hash browns!! Couldn't cut the rashers never mind eat them. Sitting for ages and tough.
Glad we just did b n b and not evening meal. Paid top rate for front sea view room with balcony and the view was lovely so that was a plus. Wouldn't stay again as for the price we paid it's just not good enough to put out cold hot food n leave it sit there for a few hours.

In December the Christmas decorations and flowers are spectacular adding to an already outstanding view.
I would highly recommend checking out this area. We enjoyed sitting in the sun and listening to street musicians in December and found it warm enough to enjoy an outdoor dining experience.

First visit to Nerja for us and this spot is just stunning. Gorgeous in the morning, so tranquil and beautiful when all lit up on a night time. Sometimes there is street entertainment, while we were there there was an artist, who was amazing, a young girl playing a harp and other musicians and other nights. Gorgeous place.

Tuesday 10th of May and we visited the coastal town of Nerja. No visit is complete without a walk around the iconic Balcon de Europa.
This clifftop walk was once the site of the 16th century Castillo Bajo (Low Castle). Later on the Castle was altered to accommodate large cannons. It was completely destroyed during the Spanish War of Independence.
Today there are a couple of old cannons on the Balcony directed out towards the Mediterranean Sea.
It was along here that we found the diminutive bronze Statue of Alfonso XII, the King of Spain. The King is accredited with first using the term "Balcon de Europa".
There is also a statue that pays hommage to the boys that discovered the Caves of Nerja. This is alongside an old ships wheel
On either side of the Balcony are the beaches of El Salon and Calahonda.
There are a number of cafes, bars and restaurants around the place.
As well as a delightful place to walk around there are some amazing views of the coastline and the beaches below.

I would say this is a perfect place for travelling alone. We stayed at the Hotel Plaza Cavana which is a two minute walk away. It overlooks a lovely plaza with restaurants and bars and I would feel quite comfortable sat here alone as it is very easy to meet people and has a lovely atmosphere.

Hello …… Bianca.... There are frequent buses from Malaga to Nerja, takes about an hour..some with fewer stops ( the Motril bus ) … on arrival cross the road and head straight up any right turn will bring you to the Balcon… a wide piazza square overlooking the sea. there are two small coves on this stretch BUT I advise walking further south to Burriana Beach, down a steep hill - loads of cafes etc and sunbeds and shades 5eu per person with very confy sunbeds !!! walk back up the hill and stay on this road, past villa flamenco hotel - to the main road, turn left and in 5 mins you are back at the bus station - On burriana beach we liked ' J'J's - English café, and La Barca and Bruxelles… hope this helps

How is the weather like in the second half of February?
Written November 8, 2018

Good evening.
Not to sure about now whether Nerja is hilly as the photos we have looked at on the internet look like people are walking along a nice flat promenade,
and the photos of his streets and shops nice holiday trinket shops are on flat land.
Nerja looks lovely but my wife can not walk up hills.
Written August 24, 2018
Nerja is flat, if you want to go to the beaches they are down steep concrete ramps but the town itself is all level surface
