Had a lovely afternoon in Fuengirola last week, starting in Plaza de la Constitution for a drink then moving on to 3-4 of the tapas bars in La Plaza de los Chinorros.

How this square has changed recently. It used to be somewhere you used to walk through, perhaps on your way to the Italian restaurant or to buy sausages from the English butcher, but then one contemporary trendy tapas bar opened and that has clearly led to an influx.

Now this is a vibrant spot with lots of possibilities to try the local tapas (we had some excellent prawns, chicken livers, cockles and, bizarrely, Asian noodles) as you sit and people watch. And, by the time we left, the place was heaving and not a table to be had.

Can't wait to go back.

La Plaza de los Chinorros is located at the back of the main post office in Fuengirola...if you were in the main church square - with the church to your back - walk across the square, down the street to the right and just before the post office turn into the side street on your right hand side.

This little square is really up and coming and has a selection of great tapas bar - all with tables and chairs outside (if you can get one !) where you can watch all life pass by. The investment that has been made by the bars/restaurant in improving the area, the restaurants decor, the friendly staff has turned an old square you just walked through to a great spot where the atmosphere is just fun and friendly...Try any of the bars or restaurants..you won't be disappointed.

We came across this hidden gem completely by accident and love it! Lots of fantastic trendy tapas bars and what an atmosphere! You will find it off the main church square and behind "Correos" post office.

If you stay a few nights in Fuengirola, you are bound to pass this square one or more times. It is around the corner from Plaza de la Constitucion, forming a second node in the restaurant district. We have had OK lunches here, and expect that the square draws a crow at night too.

La Plaza de Los Chinorros is situated south of the town next to La Plaza de la Constitution. Its packed with tapas bars and restaurants.
In my opinion the whole area around La Plaza de los Chinorros is by far the best part of Fuengirola. I would recommend spending a Sunday afternoon there just drinking wine, eating oysters and people watching. Its also a sun trap in the afternoon which makes it all the better.

Lovely atmosphere in the square. Great place to have tapas and watch the world go by. Been to most of the bars and they are all good.

This is the best place by far to find a great Spanish restaurant or bar in Fuengirola, or just sit and watch to world go by. Far better than anything that "Fish Alley" (really Calle Cruz and Calle Moncayo) have to offer and also close to Plaza de la Constitucion which is also really great. When all else is dead, La Plaza de los Chinorros is pumping with authentic Spanish sounds and smells!

Forget "fish alley" with its bland restaurants catering to the passing tourist trade, if you want to sample authentic Spanish atmosphere and food, this is the place to come. Tucked away behind the post office this little traffic free square is lined with bars and restaurants. It is busy from noon until late evening with people coming here for a drink or a snack or a main meal. There is always a buzz here with people engaged in conversation. I'd have to think hard before recommending a good restaurant in "fish alley", here in Plaza Chinorros they're all good. Enjoy!

This beautiful little plaza sits behind the Post Office and just off the main Church Square in Fuengirola. We have been there at different times and seasons during the year and have never been disappointed The choice of eating places is amazing, but even if you want to just sit and have a drink, some tapas and watch the world go by it still feels magical. If you happen to be there during the festival of El Rosario which is Fuegirola's big Feria in October, then go along grab a seat and just sit and watch the outfits and shoes that the women are wearing, oh my god you can sit for hours just watching them. We have also been there at Christmas time and the decorations are wonderful and you can still outside. So for atmosphere, choice of eating places and people watching, give it a visit.

Being winter, Fuengirola, is in it's quiet time. However there is a promotion in progress called, "la cazuela de la abuela". All participating eateries present a casserole type dish tapas style with a drink for 2euro. The square has several restaurants involved and when we visited it, it was a buzz. It was so much fun to sit and enjoy the salubrious surroundings. The promotion extends until the first of March and we will definitely be going again.
