The beautiful church, with a tower of about 60 meters, overlooks a quiet square. In the center there is a Renaissance fountain and on one side there is a bench with two statues of writers in dialogue with each other. It's nice to sit among these characters and pretend to have a chat!

Whenever you are admiring a panoramic view of Antequera, you can almost certainly see the tower of the San Sebastian church. It is the most ornate - and I think the tallest - of the towers of the 28, yes 28, churches in the town. You are bound to have a photo of it somewhere among your pictures!
At the very top sits the gilded weathervane called the Big Fat Angel - El Angelote.
San Sebastian church is slap bang in the middle of Antequera, in the Plaza San Sebastian where we find Kilometre Zero, from where they measure all the distances to other towns. This Plaza, where the main street Calle Infante Don Fernando ends, is important in the life of the town in Holy Week as all the processions (except the one on Tuesday) go through here.
The big procession for the San Sebastian Church is the Wednesday one, with the Cofradia del Mayor Dolor. The procession starts at 21.30 at night, and finishes at about 2 the next morning.
Another interesting thing on this Wednesday is at lunchtime - 13.30 - when soldiers from the Spanish Foreign Legion carry the statues into the church, ready for that evening's procession. Well worth going to see that.

We were fortunate enough to be able to pop into the church one morning when we were passing by. The art inside is lovely and the chapel quiet.

The San Sebastian parish church was built during the second half of the 16th century and is still the largest in the city.
Characteristic for this church is the use of different materails, natural stone for the facades and brickwork for the adjacent bell tower with the golden El Angelote figure on top of it.
The interior looks awesome as well with wonderful altarpieces and frescos.
Recommendable.
The church is open every morning until 1 PM and evenry evening between 6 and 8 PM.
Admission is free.

The Church of San Sebastian was built by Diego de Vergara in 1548 and is one of the most important churches in Antequera. The Renaissance style façade has sculptures of San Pedro, San Pablo and San Sebastian on one level and on the higher level can be found Santiago and San Felipe. The second level has the coat of arms of Emperor Carlos V, with an eagle. There is a tower beside the façade and on top of the tower is the weathervane with the figure of an angel, and this angel is called El Angolete.
There are three naves in the church. In the center of the main nave, there is a choir with carved wooden chairs, and two Baroque organs. The church has received the art and several altarpieces that came from the old Colegiata de Santa Maria.

This church is right in the center of Antequera and a very beautiful chuch to stop in. (Several pictures attached)
I forget the patron saint that appeared to the catholic king before they conquered antequera, but they were having a procession for her the next day.
The church dates bck multi-hundreds of years.

My wife and I went in because the outside looked so interesting with it's magnificent tower. The setting of the building is very interesting with views all around.
We were pleased that there was a good ramp to allow my wife to enter using her rollator.
Inside we were impressed by the way that the ornate art work a sculptures contrasted with the stark architecture of the columns.
It was also very peaceful inside and we noticed the change when we exited to the bustle of traffic passing.
Worth going in.

The Iglesia de San Sebastian is situated in the geographic centre of Antequera and is another example of the classic architecture of the town. Viewed from Calle Don Infante, the Bell Tower leans significantly to the right
