- OrtwinBreda, The Netherlands1,025 contributionsVery interesting and unreal surroundingIt is an amazing landscape that you can relatively easily walk through. It requires some rock walking and you need to take a bit of care. But the choice is a 45 minutes or a 2 hours stroll. Both well indicated and easily done within the given time frame. The area has a surrealistic impression at some points. I reckon that later in the year than February it would be nicer because of the flowers and the more green trees and bushes. But also crowded as even on a cloudy day with rain expected in the middle of the week in the beginning of February there were many people (including school classes). Okay, it is not Cappadocia in Turkey or the Tsingy on Madagascar, but it is worth going. The information centre does have some interesting displays and a less interesting cafeteria. You might even spot some mountain goats. Also if you are not able to walk over stony paths, there is a viewpoint that can be reached by everybody.Visited February 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten February 25, 2024
- PixsiePLondon, United Kingdom151 contributionsThe Wow Factor of Landscapes đź’šWe had a guided tour, this took about one hour. The trials are a mix of rocky, sandy, stoney. One hiking stick really helped me, particularly with the steeper downhill parts. If you intend to walk one of the trials wear good grip trainers or hiking shoes. Flip-flops or general shoes will get destroyed. The higher points you'll feel a nice breeze, the lower points are hot (June), take water with you. Though the walking is beautiful and definitely worth exploring. The place is steeped in history. I would definitely want to come back here. There is parking, toilets, cafe, shop, museum in the main area.Visited June 2024Traveled with friendsWritten June 14, 2024
- Sujeet SairamMississauga, Canada5 contributionsUnexpectedly amazing!I was passing by the town and was looking at things I could do here. Came across this place in one of the recommendations. Put the place on Google maps and blindly followed it, Google brought me to this road but shows the location somewhere about 5-6 km short of this place, still followed the route along with half a mind to turn back. Thank God I didn't. This place is a gem, absolutely beautiful and a welcome respite from the August heat, the temperature changed so quickly as we drove up. Nice bit of history behind the rocks as well. Inwas curious why all the rocks seem like they have the river like cuts on them. Turns out these rocks were infact part of the Tethys sea until the continents collided. If you are interested in geology, definitely come here.Do bring a jacket when you come, it can get unexpectedly colder. There are hiking trails that you can enjoy and the kids can learn about geography rock formations also. Theres also a small cafe at the tourist information center. There is something for everyone hereVisited August 2024Traveled with familyWritten September 25, 2024

Lovely outdoor park with stunning rock formations . There are well marked paths of different grades that take you through the centre of all the rocks. You need to wear proper walking shoes and be aware that some areas of the paths don't get much sunlight one them. This means they are very muddy , and the rocks slippery . We saw lots of people that had fallen over , some quite elderly so if you are unsteady on your feet I don't recommend going. There are a couple of viewpoint sites which offer stunning views over the local valley too, Keep your eyes open and look at the top of the ridge where there were constantly Griffon Vultures flying backwards and forwards, There is also a nice cafe here with an open air patio where you can eat and look over the park and an information centre, toilets and gift shop . A great way to spend a few hours

This limestone plateau is amazing. There are 2 fairly easy walks with some scrambling involved which take you through the rocks but it is easy to leave the path and explore a little on your own with no chance of getting lost.
The car park at the top was full so you park in the lower one and there is a bus up the hill( more than a kilometre to walk) for 2euro for a return ticket.

We were not sure what we were in for when we decided to visit this site. But we are extremely happy that we did. Coming from Antequera, our car GPS told us we were at our destination a few kilometers before we actually encountered the sign to turn off to the site. Be prepared for all sorts of weather. You are at the top of a mountain. Clouds can roll in, dropping the temperature quickly. Winds can come up in an instant. The rocks, hidden passages, canyons, and vistas make for a somewhat surreal experience. There are a number of hiking trails of varying distances that you can follow. They are clearly marked. The interpretive center is worth taking a walk through as long as bus loads of students aren't in the building at the same time. This is a must see for anyone interested in the outdoors.

We visited El torcal again specially while we are around exploring Malaga province a bit further.we came from the dolmen sites to El torcal about 12 km to the visitor centre. On the way we saw the Andalusian Ibex or like the call it here the Cabra Montesa on the road...an impressive animal the size of a small horse. The route to the visitor centre and upper parking is already breath taking. With it kartic landscaping...info panels around give extra info about the place mostly in Spanish. Up there are two hiking routes green and yellow pretty similar for a while but halfway they split. Green a bit easy 45 min they say and yellow 2 hours we toke yellow and it was about 1 hour and a 15 min. Not particularly difficult for adults. Quite and some goats as well and cows on the way great views and landscape. Sure we come again.

Fantastic park with clearly marked routes through the incredible rock formations. Routes between 45 mins and 3 hours. Great facilities in visitors centre including exhibition on how the landscape was formed and a lovely cafe with covered terrace. In summer months go early before day heats up. Enjoyed the walk followed by a really good coffee whilst watching vultures swoop and circle dramatically from the top of the rocks. Would recommend

Great place.
We were 2 adults with a 6 year old child.
We did the screw route (500 meters one way + 500 meters return) from the Torcal Alto visitor center. Low difficulty
We also did the green route in about 1 hour. Low difficulty with some medium difficulty.
The small route to Al Tornillo is incredible. Very good place for photos.
If you have time you can do the yellow route instead of the green one, but keep in mind that the distance is approximately double that of the green route and the difficulty would increase.
There are other routes apart
We left the car in the parking lot below and took the bus. We paid 2 euros each.
The driver was brilliant, he drove slowly and safely (he didn't get dizzy at all), and he stopped if he saw a mountain goat. The bus was comfortable but had no air conditioning (or it didn't work)

El Torcal de Antequera is a beautiful, rocky area that is great for walking. There is a 45-minute route (suitable for ages 4 and up, I'm guessing) and a 2.5-hour route. We did the short walk and enjoyed the beautiful and special views.
Please note: our travel book stated that there were two parking spaces; one near the starting point of the walk. However, this was not in use; you had to park in the first parking lot (2km from the starting point) after which you could walk along the road or take the bus for 2 euros per person. There were long lines for the buses; We had to wait longer than half an hour twice. So take plenty of water with you. It may be advisable to get there on time; we were there in the middle of the day. ;-)

We went with Visitaantequera who picked us up in a minibus from Malaga and drove us ( picking up some tourists in Antequera, a total group of eight people) to El Torcal de Antequera and we spent the next two and a half hours wandering around this magnificent karst landscape with Natacha ( who speaks fluent English, French and Spanish). Some of the route is a bit rocky but generally flat and Natacha stopped frequently to make sure everyone was keeping up and to give us interesting information about the fauna and flora of the area, as well as the history of this nature park. I highly recommend her and the tour, very reasonably priced.
She then dropped us off in Antequera where we had lunch ( very good food at A Mi Manera) and we then walked to the top of town to visit the 14th century Moorish fortress, the Alcazaba. Later, we caught a bus back to Malaga. A great day trip without having to rent a car.

Mind blowing natural stone sculptures with stunning views. Several trail that can be followed. We did the 45 min trail and would recommend sturdy footwear. It was very muddy the day we went but the views were spectacular

Grazie a tutti!

Does anyone know how to get to El Torcal by public transport? I would be travelling from Malaga. Thanks
Written April 27, 2019
There is no public transport there. Better to try Bla Bla car between Antequera and Villanueva de la Concepción. The Torcal is 13km from Antequera and cost me 35€ in taxi as he came back to get me 3 hrs later. I have lived here 15 years now and can recommend it but it is complicated without transport. I have walked there on numerous occasions but allowed 5 hours there and back.

Are you allowed to walk here with your dog, assume on a lead?

Hi, I am wondering if its possible to do Caminito Del Ray and El Torcal Natural Park on the same day. Both seems a bit like a half-day tour. We will visit in December 2018 (short days need to be considered). 9.30am is the first ticket for Caminito del Ray, El Torcal seems open 24/7. I understand it could potentially be hectic, so I am looking for people who have done both on same day to understand their experiences. Alternatively, if you've just hiked El Torcal on one day - what did you do the rest of the day?
Written August 27, 2018
Hi! We were 2 couples that did not want to explore El Torcal more than one of the standard routes there. So it was about 1.5 kilometers "track", nothing more. The site is fantastic! El caminito: you MUST get tickets online, don't believe the internet sites that tells you to just come there!!! Then you can do them both on the same day. Enjoy!

I would like to know where you can rent a bike from Antequera to get in El Torcal de Antequera. I've read that there is no public transport to this natural park.
I have already written to the mail address on the official Torcal site but got no answer yet...
Many thanks!

Hello, we are staying in Antequera in October, what is the best way on public transport to get to El Torcal park?
Written July 22, 2018
We went by car but saw a bus stop up there. They have a visitor center with good infrastructure and if you contact them directly they may provide more details about it. There nay be a website for the visitor center.
Written July 24, 2018
How much time does it take to walk through?
Written June 6, 2018
It depends, there are 3 different routes. The longest one that you can do without a guide is only 3km, and it wouldn't take you longer than 1,5 hours max i believe.
