About
It is practically impossible to miss the city tower. It is interesting not only because of its baroque onion dome, but also the antique monuments in its walls. An attentive visitor will notice that the tower only has a clock on three sides. Citizens decided not to put a clock on the wall facing the castle as a sign of protest when the lords of the castle refused to pay their share.

Ptuj can’t get less than three stars. Five can be too much – they need to repair some pavements, revitalize some ground floors, secure path up to the castle. On the other side, Ptuj has really many different monuments, from antique times – go to Panorama and walk around the Orpheus monument, visit medieval streets and houses and carefully look at decorations of the 19. century. You can visit art exhibitions, museum in Dominican monastery and as a must, a castle with interesting museum. After the visit you can drink what you want in the shadow of the City tower. Real visitors need a t least three hours for a visit. For the first impression walk to the tourist information office and ask about guided tours, exhibitions and different events. Park your car on the right side of Drava river and walk over the bridge (small one, closed for the traffic). City tower is central point for any walk. For the Gothic churc or for the line of bars near the theatre.

Nice place with a little bit of study. There are only 3 clocks on tower. Reason behind is that king from castle didnt want to give some money to city when they build tower so people didnt put clock on side which is facing castle.

Ptuj was disappointing, so I felt I had to give something there a 1-star review. This is to counter Lonely Planet listing Ptuj as #6 in Sovenia’s top 10 places to visit. The castle was pretty good (3 stars, separate review) but the town was not very interesting at all, and very congested traffic-wise even in November. I wish we had headed in a different direction that day.

This is a nice tower in the city of Ptuj. There is a very good view of the tower from the castle. Doesn't take long to visit.

Its impossible to miss the tower. During the time i went there were some decors all over the city (hence the photo). One of the locals told us the story of the tower having clocks only on three sides and not on the 4th one. Apparently "rich/lords" didn't want to pay for it and therefore they didn't put a clock on their side.

This striking building, tower and roof had so much to recommend them. Every visitor must come and enjoy them; in combination they are dynamite. The beautiful deep red roof, the ornately bulbous, almost Ottoman style tower minaret design. Every element was in harmony!

Ptuj city tower is one of the most outstanding attractions of this perfectly preserved old medieval central part of the city. The whole city is nevertheless worth strolling around on.
