- The_Concierge_8Trinidad and Tobago3,815 contributionsDream time to visit is January & February! Be careful of currents if you're planning to swim. Water is always cold.We made a stop here for lunch before heading up to the viewing point overlooking the town. The sand was cool and soft underfoot and there was so much of it! A very wide expanse of stunning beach. A concert was being set up on the sand. The beach really is just an extension of the promenade as there are always things going on here. Nice to spend some time strolling, watching people taking surfing lessons or just enjoying the ambience of the town which is all beach-front. Have a meal in one of the many restaurants along the stretch. There are lots of options! What I did not see were waves. Came all this way for calm. Ugh. But I learned that the best time to visit is actually January & February to see the biggest waves. The water offshore needs to be respected with the convergence of 3 major currents. Be careful and think twice about going into the water.Visited May 2024Traveled soloWritten May 9, 2024
- pdelaclemendiereMalaucene, France132 contributionsA village to discoverAfter our visit to Fatima we took the road to Nazaré nice country road When we arrive, try to find a place for your vehicle because it is very difficult to park. Very typical village with restaurants where you eat Portuguese and not expensive A very beautiful beach and a ride up by a funicular to discover the big waves Unfortunately it was very nice and hot and we didn't have the chance to see the show. To have Cheap souvenir shopsVisited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 20, 2024
- ViewsAndReviewsPorto, Portugal1,167 contributionsPristine beach in a quaint townWhat is not to love? The sand is rather pebbly and a bit golden, the water fairly clear, and the atmosphere welcoming. Yes the adjoining town is quite touristy, but you’re a tourist! It’s okay. On the north end of the “lower beach” (meaning not Nazare Norte) there are windbreakers for rent and other concessions including a restroom and a surf school. The southern end is less populated. Later on, take the elevator car for €4 RT up to Nazare Norte beach where the panoramic views are, as well as another small town area and the famous massive waves (best seen in October).Visited June 2024Traveled with friendsWritten June 24, 2024
- elsienergie c24 contributionsIt's worth a visit! This is a city worth stopping in!!! We loved it! Stroll the small streets of the city center, walk along the beach, climb the cliff to admire the view, go to the lighthouse where there are the biggest waves in winter... a beautiful day! I would have liked to spend another day...Visited June 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 29, 2024

Nazaré turns out to be a BEAUTIFUL little town!, picturesque, people with an unsurpassed vocation for service.
The gastronomy is quite acceptable, but what is most impressive is its landscaping: both beaches (although they are in the same sector) reflect a different and incredible view.
You can meditate, just contemplate the landscape from the different viewpoints or from the restaurants in the area.
It is worth paying the 2Euros for the entrance to the Lighthouse museum, the view is 360 of both beaches (you have to be a little careful because of the breeze).
I would repeat my visit a thousand more times!

This is a lovely sandy beach with views of the town and the impressive cliffs. Along the beach we found octopi and fish stretched on frames and drying in the sun - highly photogenic and part of a local museum. The main street of the town runs along the beach edge and has numerous bars, restaurants and other amenities. It is well worth exploring the quaint alleyways of the town while you are here.

Beach with calm waters. Despite the high season, it was quite quiet. Here, we don't see many vendors like on the beaches in Brazil. It is possible to rent tents, but if possible, I recommend taking chairs. The waves break very close to the beach, and the water is quite cold.

I live in central Germany. There's no beach for at least 5 hours anywhere. So being able to just walk up to the beach and hear the roar of the waves is EVERYTHING. I very much enjoyed just standing at the edge and watching birds, waves and people.

I used to go here as a kid int eh 90's and it was a great place. Now it is over commercialized. All you see in the summer is tourists walking down to the lighthouse hoping to see the big waves. But the big waves only come a few times during the colder months. The crowds are great for the local economy but this place has lost it's magic. It is not the place it used to be.

We stayed in Nazare for one night to enjoy this beautiful beach and amazing coast line. It doesn't matter where you lay on the beach, you will see families and friends and everyone just having a great time enjoying the weather. There are many shops and restaurants along the beach for anything you may need. If you are in Portugal make sure to make this one of your stops.

Just a wonderful spot. Being winter this massive beach was empty most of the time, which was just perfect for us. I'm not sure I'd want to be there in the summer months as we saw pictures and it's hard to see the sand through the people. Theres a great walking promenade with many restaurants, cafes and bars. Our Airbnb had a wonderful balcony overlooking the beach and sunsets over the ocean.

This long beautiful beach has 2 levels. the lower beach and upper "Sitio". Thought we would make a quick stop to see this iconic beachon a drive from the Douro valley to Lisbon. Our short stop was not short and we could have stayed more time. see the historic old fishing boats on the beach. walk along the beach front and see the shops and tabernas. Take the funicular up to the upper city or "Sitio" and find another village that over looks this beach. Famous area for surfing. Would love to come back and stay in this beach town. A must if you are in the area

Great beach for an great few days tumbling in the waves
Beach is clean with lifeguards in plain site. Great little huts for rent, the traditional bolas de Berlim. We have had a wonderful time.

I live in beautiful Oahu, home of many international surf meets. I'm glad our stop in Nazare allowed me to see the iconic beach where the monstrous waves of over 90 feet bring world-class surfers from around the world.
From a miradouro high above the beach, I could see the panorama but, alas, no crashing waves this time of year. The sandy beach seemed empty but inviting.
At the lookout were many female vendors in national costumes selling mostly nuts.

Can you find short term rentals without reservation?
Written December 4, 2024
It think short notice rental without reservations would be risky in the summer and much easier in other seasons. Some places close entirely in the winter and others close a while and reopen in January. It varies a lot but I wouldn’t risk short notice in the summer.

ciao che tu sappia le onde ci sono più o meno tutti i giorni o bisogna essere fortunati?
Written November 8, 2019
Le onde alte e belle ci sono nella stagione autunnale-invernale. In estate quasi nulla.
Written August 25, 2020
We were there when the beach football or volleyball was on. I think it might have been free to watch as didn't really see any ticket booths I don't think.
If there is a website for the event have a look or if you're in the area then just pop in to have a look.

Ciao, una info.
Ma quindi il faro che vediamo in tutte le classiche foto con onde altissime dov'è? A Nazarè o alla Praia do norte che a come ho visto è li a due passi? Io ci farò un'escursione a fine novembre

Muchas gracias

Pues yo estuve en Julio y las olas eran considerables, casi todos los dias bandera roja y el agua fresquita. Espero que te sirva

I plan to go see the big waves tomorrow as forecast is windy. Where do I go to get the best and safest views

Please take electric tram, which will climb up to a great height on top of hill where upper city is situated. Ticket is around 1.5 Euro. From there you can have a splendid view open to all direction towards sea. There also you can find a small chapel where Vasco da Gama offered prayer before his Maritime discovery navigation. .
